Background: Learned helplessness (LH) is a common psychological phenomenon among chronic disease patients. However, LH remains underrecognized in the context of maintenance haemodialysis (MHD) patients. This qualitative study is the first study of this topic to be conducted in a Chinese cultural context, and its purpose is to explore the LH experiences of MHD patients and to highlight their interpretations of LH.

The cross-cultural adaptation and psychometric evaluation of a learned helplessness scale for maintenance hemodialysis patients in China (LHS-MHD-C).

Learned helplessness (LH) is an important concept in nursing. This study aimed to adapt and translate the Arthritis Helplessness Index scale into a Chinese version of an LH scale for maintenance hemodialysis patients in China (LHS-MHD-C), and to validate its psychometric properties. Data collected included LHS-MHD-C, as well as the Hospital Depression Scale (HADS-D), and the Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS) for assessing LHS-MHD-C's criterion validity (predictive and concurrent, respectively).

Gender differences in empathy, emotional intelligence and problem-solving ability among nursing students: A cross-sectional study.

Background: Empathy, emotional intelligence (EI) and problem-solving ability are three important characteristics that influence effective communication in clinical practice. Previous studies have not adequately explored the specific relationships between these three abilities and their gender differences among nursing students.

Objective: We sought to investigate the current state of emotional intelligence, empathy, and problem-solving ability in nursing students and to identify whether gender differences affect these three characteristics and how gender differences can be used to educate nurses on empathy.

Background: The cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) compression to ventilation strategy remains controversial. We conducted a meta-analysis to compare the outcomes between continuous chest compressions CPR with asynchronous ventilation (CCC-CPR) and interrupted chest compressions CPR with synchronous ventilation (ICC-CPR) in cardiac arrest.

A qualitative study of phenomenology of perspectives of student nurses: experience of death in clinical practice.

Aim: To describe the experiences of student nurses in confronting the death of their patients, and to understand how they cope with these events and to what extent there are unmet needs that can be addressed in their trainings.

Methods: Semi-structured interview method was used to collect data from Chinese nursing students and then Colaizzi's seven-step analysis method was applied to identify recurrent themes in their responses to patient deaths. We listened the tape repeatedly combined with observations of their non-verbal behaviors, then transcribed them with emotional resonance, and entered them into Nvivo.

SPA is mainly studied from negative or positive perspectives using variable-centred methodologies. The aim of the current study was to explore distinct profiles of SPA among Chinese community-dwelling older adults using a person-centred method and validate the SPA profiles by examining associations with psychological outcomes.
