Background: In recent years, triglyceride-glucose index (TyG) was a new indicator of insulin resistance, and it has been widely reported that it may be associated with serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentrations.

Aims: We intended to investigate the possible connection between serum PSA concentration and the TyG index.

Methods: This is a cross-sectional study of adults with complete data on TyG and serum PSA concentrations (ng/ml) from the NHANES, 2003-2010.

Herein, we show that low expression of AP-2α is correlated with high expression of PD-L1 in high-grade glioma tissues.

A national, multicenter, retrospective study of Castleman disease in China implementing CDCN criteria.

Background: Castleman disease (CD) is a group of rare and heterogenous lymphoproliferative disorders including unicentric CD (UCD), human herpesvirus-8(HHV-8)-associated multicentric CD (HHV8-MCD), and HHV-8-negative/idiopathic multicentric CD (iMCD). Knowledge of CD mainly comes from case series or retrospective studies, but the inclusion criteria of these studies vary because the Castleman Disease Collaborative Network (CDCN) diagnostic criteria for iMCD and UCD were not available until 2017 and 2020, respectively. Further, these criteria and guidelines have not been systematically evaluated.

Extensive studies indicate that β-amyloid (Aβ) aggregation is pivotal for Alzheimer's disease (AD) progression; however, cumulative evidence suggests that Aβ itself is not sufficient to trigger AD-associated degeneration, and whether other additional pathological factors drive AD pathogenesis remains unclear. Here, we characterize pathogenic aggregates composed of β-microglobulin (βM) and Aβ that trigger neurodegeneration in AD. βM, a component of major histocompatibility complex class I (MHC class I), is upregulated in the brains of individuals with AD and constitutes the amyloid plaque core.

Mapping the regulatory effects of herbal organic compounds on gut bacteria.

Herbal organic compounds (HOCs) are bioactive natural products from medicinal plants and some traditional Chinese medicines (TCMs). Recently, ingestion of a few HOCs with low bioavailability has been associated with alterations in gut microbiota, but the extent of this phenomenon remains unclear. Here, we systematically screened 481 HOCs against 47 representative gut bacterial strains in vitro and found that almost one-third of the HOCs exhibited unique anticommensal activity.

Introduction: Little is known about the first line induction chemotherapy cycles for HIV-associated diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) as these are less common than HIV-negative lymphoma. Currently, the optimal treatment cycles option remains undefined. Therefore, we performed a multi-center study to analyze the clinical characteristics and outcomes of HIV-associated DLBCL patients in different treatment modes in China.

The relationship between CD4 T cell glycolysis and their functions.

CD4 T cells are effector T cells (Teffs) produced by the differentiation of initial T cells in peripheral lymphoid tissue after being attacked by antigens, and have an indispensable role in the development and activation of B cells and CD8 T cells to regulate and assist immunity. In this review, we provide a new perspective on the relationship between CD4 T cell glycolysis and its function. We summarize the effects of changes in the glycolysis level of CD4 T cells on their activation, differentiation, proliferation, and survival.

Doublecortin-Expressing Neurons in Human Cerebral Cortex Layer II and Amygdala from Infancy to 100 Years Old.

A cohort of morphologically heterogenous doublecortin immunoreactive (DCX +) "immature neurons" has been identified in the cerebral cortex largely around layer II and the amygdala largely in the paralaminar nucleus (PLN) among various mammals. To gain a wide spatiotemporal view on these neurons in humans, we examined layer II and amygdalar DCX + neurons in the brains of infants to 100-year-old individuals. Layer II DCX + neurons occurred throughout the cerebrum in the infants/toddlers, mainly in the temporal lobe in the adolescents and adults, and only in the temporal cortex surrounding the amygdala in the elderly.

Background: Odor perception is highly dependent on respiration, however, the asynchronization between inspiration and odor delivery results in a decreased activation and hemodynamic response function (HRF) curve in olfactory functional MRI (fMRI). This study aimed to investigate the effect of a data post-processing method to minimize the asynchronization and consequently improve the olfactory activation and HRF curve and compare it between different TRs (3 s and 1 s).

Background: Osteoarthritis (OA) is a disease of joint degeneration and impaired function. Muscle atrophy, fatty infiltration, and fibrosis are degenerative features of muscle injury and predict poor outcomes in some degenerative and exercise-related injuries. Patients with glenohumeral joint OA usually have rotator cuff muscle degeneration, even though the rotator cuff is intact.

The association between academic achievement, psychological distress, and smartphone addiction: A cross-sectional study among medical students.

This study investigates the relationship between academic achievement, psychological distress, and smartphone addiction in medical students. In total, 513 medical students voluntarily completed a survey that included the Personal Information Questionnaire, the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Version (SAS-SV), the Depression, Anxiety and Stress Scale (DASS-21), and the Interaction Anxiousness Scale (IAS). Results showed that 321 participants were screened positive for smartphone addiction and the prevalence of smartphone addiction was 62.
