Enzymatic glucose sensors usually exhibit excellent sensitivity and selectivity but suffer from poor stability due to the negative influence of temperature and humidity on enzyme molecules. As compared to enzymatic glucose sensors, non-enzymatic counterparts are generally more stable but are facing challenges in concurrently improving both sensitivity and selectivity of a trace amount of glucose molecules in physiological samples such as saliva and sweat. Here, a novel non-enzymatic glucose sensor based on nanostructured CuAl alloy films has been fabricated by a facile magnetron-sputtering followed by controllable electrochemical etching approach.

Socioeconomic deprivation has been linked to detrimental healthcare outcomes. We sought to examine whether patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) from socioeconomically disadvantaged areas experience worse survival outcomes and how it interacts with other factors. In this population-based study, patients with CRC diagnosed between 2007 to 2015 in the SEER program were reviewed.

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been reported to regulate the hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) chemoresistance and tumor progression by regulating gene expression. However, the underlying molecular mechanisms of HCC sorafenib resistance regulated by circRNAs remain unclear. Here, higher expression of circUBE2D2 was directly associated with low survival rate in HCC patients.

Reconstruction of a complex defect around the knee, particularly involving a large soft-tissue defect or disruption of the extensor mechanism, is always a challenging problem. The purpose of this study was to introduce the use of a customized free perforator flap for complex soft-tissue reconstruction around the knee. Between June 2010 and March 2017, 16 patients underwent this procedure.

To establish a quantitative analysis of multi-components by single marker(QAMS) method for five flavonoids in Rhododendron anthopogonoides and verify its feasibility and applicability in the medicinal materials of R. anthopogonoides. With hyperoside as the internal reference, relative correction factors(RCF) of rutin, quercetin, quercitrin and kaempferol were established by high-performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) analysis.

CD4 T cell exhaustion leads to adoptive transfer therapy failure which can be prevented by immune checkpoint blockade.

Cytotoxic CD8 T cell exhaustion is one of the mechanisms underlying the tumor immune escape. The paradigm-shifting immune checkpoint therapy can mitigate CD8 T lymphocyte exhaustion, reinvigorate the anticancer immunity, and achieve durable tumor regression for some patients. Emerging evidence indicates that CD4 T lymphocytes also have a critical role in anticancer immunity, either by directly applying cytotoxicity toward cancer cells or as a helper to augment CD8 T cell cytotoxicity.

Adoptive CD8 T cell therapy generates immunological memory to inhibit melanoma metastasis.

Immunobiology & Transplant Science Center, Department of Surgery, Houston Methodist Research Institute & Institute for Academic Medicine, Houston Methodist Hospital Houston, TX 77030, USA.

Adoptive T cell therapy has emerged as a promising treatment for cancer. However, it is unknown whether adoptively transferred anti-tumor T cells can form immunological memory and provide continuous protection against cancer metastasis. Herein, we used TCR transgenic Pmel-1 CD8 T cells as a model to investigate whether early transferred Pmel-1 CD8 T cells can generate immunological memory to prevent later melanoma metastasis.

PURPOSE:To investigate the effects of adenoid hypertrophy and maxillary sinus mucosal thickening on dentofacial development. METHODS:The selected subjects were divided into 4 groups according to the inclusion criteria: group A (adenoid hypertrophy with maxillary sinus mucosal thickening), group B (adenoid hypertrophy without maxillary sinus mucosal thickening), group C (normal adenoid with maxillary sinus mucosal thickening), and group D (normal adenoid without maxillary sinus mucosal thickening). There were 20 subjects in each group, aging from 12 to 14 years old.

Background: There was limited data concerning predicting ability of calprotectin for disease activity of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients with normal C-reactive protein (CRP) level. This study was conducted to evaluate serum calprotectin levels in active RA patients and analyze its predicting value for disease activity evaluation despite normal CRP level.

Methods: A total of 162 patients with active RA patients with normal CRP levels and 57 healthy subjects were enrolled.

Background: Skin wound healing is a challenging problem, especially in aging or diabetic patients, which becomes more difficult to heal, and easily results in considerable public health burden. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of metformin on wound healing and explore its underlying mechanism.

Methods: Metformin was local topical application in rat skin defect models.

This clinical trial explores the correlation between serum lipoprotein and the severity of aortic valve sclerosis in patients diagnosed with aortic valve sclerosis (AVS). A total of 1260 subjects diagnosed with AVS were enrolled in this study between May 2005 and June 2013 and divided into the young-aged (30-59 years, n=217), middle-aged (60-74 years, n=561) and elderly groups (75-93 years, n=482). In each group, patients were sub-grouped into AVS and healthy controls according to angiography findings.

Purpose: T lymphoma invasion and metastasis inducing factor 1 (TIAM1) overexpression has been reported in a variety of human cancers. However, the investigation of TIAM1 in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) was extremely rare. The aim of the study was to assess TIAM1 expression and explore its role in OSCC.
