Background: Single-cell RNA sequencing analysis has been usually conducted on post-traumatic epilepsy (PET) and hereditary epilepsy (HE) patients; however, the transcriptome of patients with traumatic temporal lobe epilepsy has rarely been studied.

Materials And Methods: Hippocampus tissues isolated from one patient with PTE and one patient with HE were used in the present study. Single cell isolates were prepared and captured using a 10× Genomics Chromium Single-Cell 3' kit (V3) according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Objective: To explore the effect of human urine-derived stem cells (husc) in improving the neurological function of rats with cerebral ischemia-reperfusion (CIR), and report new molecular network by bioinformatics, combined with experiment validation.

Methods: After CIR model was established, and husc were transplanted into the lateral ventricle of rats, neurological severe score (NSS) andgene network analysis were performed. Firstly, we input the keywords "Cerebral reperfusion" and "human urine stem cells" into Genecard database and merged data with findings from PubMed so as to get their targets genes, and downloaded them to make Venny intersection plot.

Purpose: To develop a contrast-enhanced ultrasound (CEUS) clinic-radiomics nomogram for individualized assessment of Ki-67 expression in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Methods: A retrospective cohort comprising 310 HCC individuals who underwent preoperative CEUS (using SonoVue) at three different centers was partitioned into a training set, a validation set, and an external test set. Radiomics signatures indicating the phenotypes of the Ki-67 were extracted from multiphase CEUS images.

Department of Vascular Surgery, The 2nd Xiang-ya Hospital of Central South University, Changsha, China; Angiopathy Institute of Central South University, Changsha, China; Department of Cardiovascular Surgery, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences and Peking Union Medical College Fuwai Hospital, Xicheng District, Beijing, China. Electronic address:

With the global acceptance of endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for aortic diseases, one of the most common issues in EVAR is the preservation of critical aortic branches. Despite the fact that many studies on EVAR-assisted endovascular branch reconstruction techniques have been published. There were few bibliometric analyses that focused on branch rebuilding in endovascular aortic repair.

Objective: Epilepsy is a chronic brain disease with recurrent seizures. Autophagy plays a crucial role in the progression of epilepsy. This study aimed to explore the function and intrinsic mechanism of the long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) UCA1/miR-132-3p/ATG16L1 axis in epilepsy via regulation of autophagy.

Background: Individual immune-related alternative splicing (AS) events have been found to be significant in immune regulation and cancer prognosis. However, a comprehensive analysis of AS events in cancer cells based on immune-related genes (IRGs) has not been performed, and its clinical value is unknown.

Methods: Colon cancer cases with AS data were obtained from TCGA, and then, we identified overall survival-related AS events (OS-ASEs) based on IRGs by univariate analyses.

Despite intense efforts, the cause of Alzheimer's disease is still not fully understood. A chemical and biochemical perspective could shed light on this disorder. Secondary chemical bonding between calcium and carbonyl oxygen atoms of glycine and valine might give rise to aggregates in the brain, which may later result in cell senescence.

Local strong acids: A driving force for metastasis.

Med Hypotheses

November 2020

School of Life Sciences, Sun Yat-sen University, Guangzhou 510275, China. Electronic address:

Carcinogenesis was postulated as the result of the local buildup of strong acids such as hydrogenchloride which may trigger metastasis. A previous study revealed that bicarbonate raised tumor pH and suppressed metastases. The phosphate groups in DNA on neutrophil extracellular traps possess hydrogen bonding capacity and can accept protons.

Background: Infection and non-union of fractures are potential complications of Gustilo type IIIB open tibial fractures. It is important to choose the most effective type of flap to reduce the incidence of infection and non-union.

Method: This study reviewed outcomes of 44 patients (aged 16-65 years) who underwent reconstruction of Gustilo type IIIB tibial fractures from January 2004 to January 2017.

Purpose: The aim of this study was to demonstrate the viability of the transverse circumflex scapular artery perforator flap (TCSAPF) in children with soft tissue defects of the lower limb.

Methods: In an anatomic study, 25 fresh cadavers were injected with lead oxide-gelatin for spiral computed tomography and 3-dimensional image reconstruction. In a 3-year clinical application study, children with soft tissue defects and exposed tendons and/or bones in the lower limb underwent free-TCSAPF repair of the defect.

Article Synopsis
  • Islet graft dysfunction is linked to hypoxia, and this study explores whether human umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cell (huc-MSC) conditioned medium can protect porcine islet cells from hypoxia-induced apoptosis by modulating autophagy.
  • The experiment involved culturing neonatal porcine islet cell clusters with huc-MSC-CM under hypoxic conditions, using inhibitors to analyze the role of autophagy and measuring the release of cytokines for their protective effect.
  • Results showed that huc-MSC-CM enhanced islet cell viability, reduced apoptosis, and increased autophagy by activating the PI3K/Akt/mTOR pathway, with IL-6 identified as a key cytokine

The transcription factor MEF2 promotes survival in various cell types and a number of studies indicate that abnormal regulation of MEF2 is linked to oncogenicity in several carcinomas. We have found that MEF2D, a member of the MEF2 family, is upregulated in Ovarian Cancer (OC). Immunohistochemistry analysis of tumor sections of 402 OC patients revealed that MEF2D is significantly elevated at the protein level.

Department of General Surgery, Northern Jiangsu Province Hospital, Clinical Medical College, Institute of General Surgery - Yangzhou, Yangzhou University, Yangzhou, P.R. China

Gastric cancer is one of the most commonly diagnosed cancers each year, and it remains the third leading cause of cancer death in the world. The clinicopathologic characteristics differ among regions, so epigenetic changes play a key role in gastric carcinogenesis. In the present study, we first demonstrate that cardamonin, a natural production of chalcone, is an anti-gastric cancer agent in pre-clinical evaluation.

Tight control of energy metabolism is essential for normal cell function and organism survival. PKM (pyruvate kinase, muscle) isoforms 1 and 2 originate from alternative splicing of PKM pre-mRNA. They are key enzymes in oxidative phosphorylation and aerobic glycolysis, respectively, and are essential for ATP generation.
