Exogenous neural stem cells (NSCs) have great potential to reconstitute damage spinal neural circuitry. However, regulating the metabolic reprogramming of NSCs for reliable nerve regeneration has been challenging. This report discusses the biomimetic dextral hydrogel (DH) with right-handed nanofibers that specifically reprograms the lipid metabolism of NSCs, promoting their neural differentiation and rapid regeneration of damaged axons.

Deer antler blastema progenitor cells (ABPCs) are promising for regenerative medicine due to their role in annual antler regeneration, the only case of complete organ regeneration in mammals. ABPC-derived signals show great potential for promoting regeneration in tissues with limited natural regenerative ability. Our findings demonstrate the capability of extracellular vesicles from ABPCs (EVs) to repair spinal cord injury (SCI), a condition with low regenerative capacity.

Objectives: Hypertriglyceridemia-associated acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP) is one of the most common etiologies of acute pancreatitis (AP) worldwide. Compared to other etiologies, patients with HTG-AP may develop more severe AP, but previous studies yielded controversial conclusion due to the lack of adequate adjustment for the confounders. Therefore, this study aimed to examine the possibility and risk factors of developing severe AP in HTG-AP.

Background: Abdominal aortic calcification (AAC) is considered as a strong predictor of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events. Our study aimed to investigate whether the predicted risk for cardiac death with the Framingham risk score (FRS) could be further improved with the addition of AAC score in general population aged ≥ 40 years.
Methods: A total of 2971 participants aged ≥ 40 years in the National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys (NHANES) 2013-2014 were followed up.

Background: Spinal cord injury (SCI) triggers a complex inflammatory response that impedes neural repair and functional recovery. The modulation of macrophage phenotypes is thus considered a promising therapeutic strategy to mitigate inflammation and promote regeneration.
Methods: We employed microarray and single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to investigate gene expression changes and immune cell dynamics in mice following crush injury at 3 and 7 days post-injury (dpi).

Objectives: To investigate whether bathing with 2% chlorhexidine gluconate (CHG) reduces the incidence of surgical site infection (SSI) in patients undergoing routine pancreatic surgery.
Methods: A randomised controlled trial was conducted at a large-volume pancreatic centre between 1 January 2021 and 31 December 2022. Patients undergoing clean-contaminated pancreatic surgery were enrolled and randomised into an intervention arm (bathing with a 2% CHG wipe) and a control arm (routine care, soap and water).

Background: Supracondylar humerus fractures (SCHFs) are the most common elbow fractures in children and are typically treated with closed reduction and Kirschner pin fixation. However, varying degrees of residual rotational displacement may remain after closed reduction. Several methods exist to assess rotational displacement, but none account for the effect of elbow rotation on the results.

Background: The pathogenesis of acute kidney injury (AKI) is not fully understood. Tax1-binding protein 1 (TAX1BP1) modulates inflammation and apoptosis through the NF-kB signaling pathway, however, its specific role in ischemic AKI remains unclear.
Methods: We injected a TAX1BP1 overexpression plasmid into the tail vein of male C57BL/6 mice, followed by clamping the bilateral renal arteries to induce AKI.

Organoids, self-organized structures derived from stem cells cultured in a specific three-dimensional (3D) microenvironment, have emerged as innovative platforms that closely mimic cellular behavior, tissue architecture, and organ function. Bone organoids, a frontier in organoid research, can replicate the complex structures and functional characteristics of bone tissue. Recent advancements have led to the successful development of bone organoids, including models of callus, woven bone, cartilage, trabecular bone, and bone marrow.

Mechanical force is essential for bone development, bone homeostasis, and bone fracture healing. In the past few decades, various biomaterials have been developed to provide mechanical signals that mimic the natural bone microenvironment, thereby promoting bone regeneration. Bone organoids, emerging as a novel research approach, are 3D micro-bone tissues that possess the ability to self-renew and self-organize, exhibiting biomimetic spatial characteristics.

Analogous to the aqueous solution where the pH of the solvent affects its multiple behaviors, the optical acidity and basicity of molten salts also greatly influence their thermophysical and thermochemical properties. In the study, we develop ion probes to quantitatively determine the acidity-basicity scale of molten NaCl-AlCl ( = 1.5-2.

Adult mammals are unable to regenerate bulky bone tissues, making large bone defects clinically challenging. Deer antler represents an exception to this rule, exhibiting the fastest bony growth in mammals, offering a unique opportunity to explore novel strategies for rapid bone regeneration. Here, a bone graft exploiting the biochemical, biophysical, and structural characteristics of antlers is constructed.

Osteosarcoma is a common primary malignant bone tumor with a high incidence in children and adolescents, with high invasiveness and lung metastases. Even after traditional surgical excision, chemoradiotherapy, and comprehensive treatment, the survival rate of patients is still low, and the prognosis is not ideal. As an important part of non-coding RNA family, lncRNA and miRNA have significant regulatory effects on the growth, proliferation, metastasis and apoptosis of osteosarcoma cells.

Accurate quantification of cisplatin (cDDP) in body fluids (blood, urine, and ascites) is crucial in monitoring therapeutic processes, assessing drug metabolism, and optimizing treatment schedules for cancer patients. Nonetheless, due to the inherent fluorescence and complexity of the body fluid matrix, along with the low cDDP concentrations in these fluids during treatment, using fluorescent sensors for fluid detection remains a subject of ongoing research. Herein, a series of water-soluble cDDP-activatable fluorescent sensors was rationally constructed by introducing thioether groups to the xanthene skeleton based on the chalcogenophilicity of platinum.

Urine culture is the gold standard for identifying microorganisms in urine. However, the process is time-consuming and usually takes days to get the results, which impedes timely treatment. This study aimed to evaluate the performance of UF-5000 in excluding bacterial urinary tract infection (UTI) and detecting the presence of Gram-negative bacteria.
