To explore the differences in clinical presentation and therapeutic outcomes between vocal fold fibrocystic degeneration and other common benign lesions, such as vocal fold polyp and cyst. Vocal function was assessed before and after surgery in 10 cases of vocal fold fibrocystoids, 30 cases of vocal fold polyps and 10 cases of vocal fold cysts at Department of Voice Medicine, Xiamen University Zhongshan Hospital. The voice Assessments included GRBAS(G-scale), VHI-10 scale, Reflux Symptom Index(RSI) scale, stroboscope, acoustic objective analysis, and aerodynamics measurements.

Retrospective analysis of the efficacy and it's influencing factors of non-surgical treatment mainly focus on voice therapy for patients with unilateral vocal fold paralysis. The retrospective study includes 57 patients who were diagnosed with unilateral vocal fold paralysis and presented with hoarseness as their main complaint at the Department of Voice Medicine, Zhongshan Hospital of Xiamen University from August, 2021 to August, 2023. Judging the efficacy of non-surgical treatment mainly focus on voice therapy through changes in acoustic, aerodynamic, and laryngoscopic parameters; Analyze the relationship between patients' age, gender, duration of disease, cause of nerve injury, type of nerve injury, side of nerve injury and efficacy of non-surgical treatment.

Background: /Aim: Chronic hepatitis B patients often develop concomitant fatty liver disease, which is associated with increased risk of liver cirrhosis and hepatocarcinoma. Our previous studies have shown that apolipoprotein H (APOH) levels are gradually decreased in patients with chronic HBV infection at different stages of disease progression, and APOH deficiency disrupted hepatic lipid metabolism and caused fatty liver. We focus on the relationship between APOH and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) in the context of chronic HBV infection.

In this paper, we have aimed to elucidate the therapeutic effect of intramedullary nailing (IMN) in treating comminuted proximal humeral fractures (CPHFs) and its influence on the recovery of shoulder joint function. For this purpose, 60 cases with CPHFs were selected, particularly from January 2020 to October 2021. In these cases, 28 cases were treated with a locking proximal humeral plate (LPHP) and assigned to the control (Con) group and the remaining 32 patients were treated with IMN and included in the research (Res) group.

Cardiac damage in non-severe patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is poorly explored. This study aimed to explore the manifestations of cardiac damage at presentation in non-severe patients with COVID-19. In this study, 113 non-severe patients with COVID-19 were grouped according to the duration from symptoms onset to hospital admission: group 1 (≤ 1 week, n = 27), group 2 (> 1 to 2 weeks, n = 28), group 3 (> 2 to 3 weeks, n = 27), group 4 (> 3 weeks, n = 31).

Objective: Among music majors with only 18 months of training, supraglottal activities and aerodynamic parameters were studied to facilitate understanding of the influence of voice training on characteristics of voice production.
Methods: Twenty-three students at the Xiamen Music School were examined over the course of 18 months of singing training. Only 17 students completed all data collection sessions.
Background: Dental caries is a common disease under the action of many factors. Dental caries may occur in all age groups, among which children and adolescents are at high risk of dental caries. Early identification of the risk factors of dental caries is very important for clinical staff to prevent and intervene as soon as possible and reduce the incidence of dental caries.

Methods: Twenty-three students from Xiamen Music School between 12 and 15 years old were enrolled. Acoustic examination was performed three times- every 6 months for 18 months.

Background: Apolipoprotein H (APOH), also known as beta2-glycoprotein I (beta2-GPI), is an acute phase protein in hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection and binds to hepatitis B surface antigen (HBsAg) with high-affinity. APOH expression is upregulated by HBV and the large surface protein (LHBs), but also elevated in HBV-related hepatoma cells. Previous studies show that intracellular retention of HBsAg induces endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress, a key driver of hepatocyte damage during chronic liver injury, but the mechanisms are unclear.

To provide a vehicle for sustained release of cartilage-protective agent for the potential application of osteoarthritis (OA) treatment, we developed a kartogenin (KGN)-incorporated thermogel for intra-articular injection. We fabricated a poly(lactide-co-glycolide)-block-poly(ethylene glycol)-block-poly(lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA-PEG-PLGA) thermogel as a KGN carrier for IA injection. OA chondrocytes were cultured in thermogel with or with no KGN to investigate the effect of KGN thermogel on cartilage matrix.

Objectives: Previous studies of subjects with unilateral vocal fold paralysis (UVFP) as observed in a positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) examination have demonstrated false positive results in the contralateral cricoarytenoid, in which the metabolism may be higher. This area may also be the site of contralateral compensatory movement in these patients. In this study, we compared the adduction speed of the contralateral vocal folds in patients with UVFP and in healthy subjects as measured by the stroboscopic laryngoscope frame rate.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to develop the Mandarin version of the Consensus Auditory-Perceptual Evaluation of Voice (CAPE-V) and evaluate its reliability compared with the Grade, Roughness, Breathiness, Asthenia, Strain (GRBAS).
Method: The Mandarin version of the CAPE-V tool was translated from the validated English version with phonemic adaptations, content adjustment, and scale modification. Sixty dysphonic, 20 normal, and 20 repeated voice samples were included in this study.

Methods: Laryngeal electromyography (EMG) was performed in 112 patients with unilateral vocal cord movement disorder. The duration and amplitude of the motor unit potential (MUP) of the thyroarytenoid muscle (TA), posterior cricoarytenoid muscle (PCA), and cricothyroid muscle (CT) were measured when patients were asked to make a deep inspiration and phonate /i/.

Objective: The objective of this study was to quantitatively measure the three-dimensional (3D) structure of the vocal folds in normal subjects and in patients with different types of cricoarytenoid dislocation. We will analyze differences in parameters between the groups and also determine if any morphologic parameters possess utility in distinguishing the type and the degree of cricoarytenoid dislocation.
Study Design: This retrospective study was conducted using university hospital data.

To discuss the clinical effect of small dose of botulinum toxin injection in cricothyroid muscle and thyroarytenoid muscle on patients with incomplete bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve paresis. Six patients were selected with Ⅰor Ⅱ or Ⅲ degree of dyspnea diagnosed as bilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve injury by laryngeal electromyography, and small dose of botulinum toxin injection was performed in cricothyroid muscle and thyroarytenoid muscle as a treatment. Degree of dyspnea was assessed one month before and after the treatment, and the stroboscopic laryngoscope results, acoustic parameters and CT image of the patients were collected in the 6 patients.
