Protozoa, as primary predators of soil bacteria, represent an overlooked natural driver in the dissemination of antibiotic resistance genes. However, the effects of protozoan predation on antibiotic resistance genes dissemination at the community level, along with the underlying mechanisms, remain unclear. Here we used fluorescence-activated cell sorting, qPCR, combined with metagenomics and reverse transcription quantitative PCR, to unveil how protozoa (Colpoda steinii and Acanthamoeba castellanii) influence the plasmid-mediated transfer of antibiotic resistance genes to soil microbial communities.

Introduction: What interventions effectively prevent postoperative stenosis following endoscopic resection (ER) of superficial esophageal cancer? This study aimed to identify effective interventions or combinations through a systematic review and network meta-analysis.
Methods: Six databases were systematically searched for eligible studies up to 30 April 2023, on interventions to prevent esophageal stenosis post-ER. Odds ratios (ORs) evaluated stenosis rate (primary outcome) and complications (secondary outcome), while mean differences (MD) evaluated endoscopic balloon dilatation (EBD) sessions post-stenosis.

KOBu-promoted [3 + 2] cycloaddition of dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) with fullerenes has been developed for facile and efficient one-pot synthesis of 1,2,3,4-cyclic sulfoxide-fused [60]/[70]fullerene dihydrides, which offers a versatile platform for the site-selective preparation of various fullerene multiadducts with a wide range of functional groups. The utility of these tetra-functionalized fullerenes is demonstrated by the successful application as electron-transport materials in perovskite solar cells.

A two-degree-of-freedom bistable energy harvester with a spring-magnet oscillator designed for ultra-low frequency vibration energy harvesting is presented in this paper. It combines magnetic plucking frequency upconversion and a variable potential function to achieve a high-efficiency response while also being suitably installed for applications with spatial limitations. A lumped parameter model of the piezoelectric energy harvester and the magnetic dipoles is applied to develop the theoretical model for the system.

Our study sought to investigate the interrelationship between gut microbiota and intratumoral microbiota in the context of triple therapy, with a view to identifying potential biological markers.
Methods: The gut microbial community profiles of patients with primary untreated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) and those treated with local therapy combined with lenvatinib and PD-1 inhibitors were analyzed by 16S rRNA gene amplicon sequencing.

Background & Objective: To assess the association of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) conception with postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) during the peripartum and postpartum periods.
Methods: Clinical records of 11,497 patients enrolled in Fujian Maternity and Child Health Hospital between March 2013 and December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed and divided into the ART group and the natural conception group based on the mode of conception. The incidence of PPH and blood loss at 30, 60, 90, and 120 minutes after delivery were compared.

Two new nor-rubrofusarin derivatives (trichsimins A and B, 1 and 2) and one new chromone derivative (trichsimin C, 5) were isolated from the deep-sea-derived Trichoderma simmonsii ZEN3 along with 20 known compounds (3, 4, and 6-23). The structures of the new compounds were established by detailed analyses of the NMR, HRESIMS, and ORD data. A major proportion of metal contaminants in aquatic environments is bound to suspended particulate matter (SPM), yet environmental monitoring typically focuses on dissolved metals, with the filtration step removing SPM. ITFG2 is an intracellular protein known to modulate the immune response of T-cells. Background: The effect of statins use on the incidence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) is still under debate, and it could be modified by a series of factors.
Objectives: We aimed to examine the association of statins use with the risk of cognitive impairment and AD, and assess the moderating roles of genetic susceptibility and other individual-related factors.
