Unlabelled: Ethnopharmacological relevance Paeonia lactiflora is a famous Traditional Chinese medicine widely used for immunological regulation. Paeoniflorin, the main component of Paeonia lactiflora, exerts neuroprotective and antidepressant-like effects in rodents.

Aim Of The Study: Fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2) is essentially required in the central nervous system as it acts as both a neurotrophic factor and an anti-inflammatory factor participating in the regulation of proliferation, differentiation and apoptosis of neurons in the brain.

Background: Licorice is widely used as a hepatoprotective herb for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine, and its main chemical constituent glycyrrhizin (GL) is used as a treatment for chronic hepatitis in Japan for over 20 years. 18β-Glycyrrhetinic acid (GA) is the main active metabolite of GL.

Objective: Series of GA derivatives were designed and synthesized, and their anti-HCV activities were screened to investigate the structure-activity relationship (SAR).

The "multi-component and multi-target" property of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) makes the quality control more difficult, which remains a key concern hindering the space of progress in its modernization and globalization. This study aims to provide a new strategy to discover quality markers related to the efficacy and stability of TCM based on the bioactive markers finding and differential markers finding, Guan-Xin-Jing capsule (GXJC) was used as a model. Firstly, the UHPLC-QTOF-MS/MS was performed to identify the chemical profiling of GXJC and 148 compounds were unequivocally or tentatively identified.

It has been reported that liquiritin produced an antidepressant-like effect in rodents. However, little information is known regarding its antidepressant activity with the regulation of fibroblast growth factor 2 (FGF-2), a protein maintaining development and maturation of the nervous central system. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate the underlying FGF-2 modulation involved in the antidepressant-like effects of liquiritin.

Hollow fiber-stir bar sorptive extraction and microwave assisted derivatization of amino acids in biological matrices.

J Chromatogr A

November 2016

Chemical Engineering Institute, Key Laboratory of Environmental Friendly Composite Materials and Biomass Utilization, Northwest University for Nationalities, Lanzhou 730000, China. Electronic address:

A kind of solid phase microextraction configuration combining the principles of hollow fiber solid phase microextraction (HF-SPME) and stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE) is presented. The main feature of HF-SBSE is the use of microporous hollow fiber acting as the carrier and filter, while a thin stainless steel wire and silica microspheres in the lumen of hollow fiber respectively acting as the magnetic stirrer and the dispersed sorbents for the collection and extraction of the target analytes, thus affording extraction process like SBSE. Moreover, the prepared hollow fiber stir bar was applied to direct microextraction and microwave assisted derivatization with N,O-Bis(trimethylsilyl)trifluroacetamide (BSTFA) of four amino acids in rats' urine and cerebrospinal fluid followed by gas chromatography mass spectrometric analysis.

Development of a novel angiogenesis inhibitor will be essential for the improvement of therapeutics against cancer. Kallistatin had been recognized as an endogenous angiogenesis inhibitor. Here, we demonstrated kallistatin's strong anti-angiogenesis and anti-metastasis activity stimulated by breast cancer cells (MCF-7) and its mechanism of action in vitro.

Kallistatin has been recognized as an endogenous angiogenic inhibitor. However, the underlying molecular mechanism remains poorly understood. Taking it into account that vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) has been implicated in all aspects of normal and pathological vasculogenesis and angiogenesis.
