Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is a major global health challenge, largely due to its complex pathology and the limited effectiveness of existing treatments. Quercetin, a bioactive compound belonging to the flavonoid class, its promising antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and neuroprotective effects in addressing AD. However, its therapeutic potential is hindered by challenges such as low bioavailability, instability, and restricted permeability across the blood-brain barrier (BBB).

Background: Skeletal fluorosis is a chronic metabolic bone disease caused by excessive accumulation of fluoride in the bones. Previous studies have found that when the intake of tea fluoride is similar, the prevalence of skeletal fluorosis varies greatly among different ethnic groups, which may be related to different genetic backgrounds. Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of estrogen receptor 1 (ESR1) and collagen type 1 α1 (COL1A1) were strongly associated with bone metabolism as well as bone growth and development, but their association with the risk of skeletal fluorosis has not been reported.

In recent decades, the threats of ticks and tick-borne diseases (TBDs) increased extensively with environmental change, urbanization, and rapidly changing interactions between human and animals. However, large-scale distribution of tick and TBD risks as well as their relationship with environmental change remain inadequately unclear. Here, we first proposed a "tick-pathogen-habitat-human" model to project the global potential distribution of main pathogenic ticks using a total of 70,714 occurrence records.

Neurotransmitters and neuromodulators can be released via either action potential (AP)-evoked transient or AP-independent continuous neurotransmission. The elevated AP-evoked neurotransmission in the primary sensory neurons plays crucial roles in hyperalgesia. However, whether and how the AP-independent continuous neurotransmission contributes to hyperalgesia remains largely unknown.

Introduction: Existing research suggests an association between smoking and the incidence of recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS); however, the causal relationship remains ambiguous. We employed Mendelian randomization (MR) to clarify the potential causal association between smoking and the risk of developing RAS.
Methods: We utilized genome-wide association study (GWAS) sequencing data related to smoking from the Finnish database as instrumental variables (IVs) and GWAS data for RAS from the UK Biobank (UKB) as the outcome to perform a two-sample MR analysis.

In this article we describe research on the synthesis and characterization of a family of "Janus" amphiphiles composed of disaccharide head groups and alkaloid units joined together via a methylene linker, and bearing a lateral aliphatic chain of varying length. The condensed phases formed by self-organization of the products as a function of temperature were characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, thermal polarized light microscopy, and small angle X-ray scattering, allied with computational modelling and simulations. Structural studies on heating specimens from the solid showed that some homologues exhibited lamellar, columnar and bicontinuous mesophases, whereas the same homologues revealed different phase sequences on cooling from the amorphous liquid.

Background: Rosacea is a chronic inflammatory disease characterized by persistent erythema, papules, and pustules, mainly on the skin of the face. Rosacea is difficult to treat; therefore, identifying new treatments is crucial. Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X2 (MRGPRX2)-mediated mast cell (MC) activation is essential in the pathogenesis of rosacea.

Exploration of new superconducting or superhard transition-metal borides has attracted extensive interest in the past few decades. In this study, we conducted comprehensive theoretical investigations in the scandium-boron binary system by employing a structural search method based upon first-principles density functional theory. Among the six predicted superconducting scandium-borides, ScB (3̄) has the highest superconducting transition temperature = 12.

Background: Posterior laminectomy is a standard treatment for thoracic ossification of the ligamentum flavum (TOLF), but it often leads to neurological deterioration during surgery. This study aimed to reduce iatrogenic neurological deterioration by using an S8 navigation system combined with an ultrasonic osteotome for three-dimensional real-time dynamic visualization decompression.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on patients who underwent laminectomy and internal fixation for TOLF in our centre from January 2016 to January 2023.

Lower extremity lymphedema is a chronic and incurable condition. Treatment options for lymphedema have continued to advance and prognosis has improved; however, the condition still poses a substantial negative impact on patients' mental health. Therefore, the key questions raised in this study are "How many patients with lower limb lymph have depression symptoms?" and "Are there any differences in the symptoms and distress factors of patients with lower extremity lymphedema, and how do they experience distress?" A total of 112 lower extremity lymphedema patients from June 2021 to December 2023 were enrolled in the study.

The process by which cells translate external mechanical cues into intracellular biochemical signals involves intricate mechanisms that remain unclear. In recent years, research into post-translational modifications (PTMs) has offered valuable insights into this field, spotlighting protein prenylation as a crucial mechanism in cellular mechanotransduction and various human diseases. Protein prenylation, which involves the covalent attachment of isoprenoid groups to specific substrate proteins, profoundly affects the functions of key mechanotransduction proteins such as Rho, Ras, and lamins.

The mechanism of radon exhalation from surrounding rock fracture has important guiding significance for radon prevention and control in underground research laboratories. The optimal ratio scheme of similar materials in the granite surrounding rock of Beishan underground laboratory was obtained by orthogonal test. The radon exhalation characteristics of fractured rock samples under dry and saturated conditions were obtained by using 10 standard joint roughness coefficient (JRC) curves.
