Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) is a prevalent pregnancy complication that seriously endangers maternal and infant health, posing a medical and economic burden worldwide. Several dietary patterns have been recommended for women of childbearing age, demonstrating a positive role in preventing and managing GDM. However, these dietary patterns may not fully take environmental factors into account when addressing global food sustainability and planetary health.

Chemotherapeutic agents, such as paclitaxel (PTX), induce neuroplastic changes and alter gene expression in the prefrontal cortex (PFC), which may be associated with chemotherapy-induced pain and negative emotions. Notably, DNA methylation undergoes adaptive changes in neurological disorders, emerging as a promising target for neuromodulation. In this study, systemic administration of PTX leads to a decrease in the expression of the DNA methyltransferase DNMT3a, while concurrently upregulating the expression of Gabrb1 mRNA and its encoded GABARβ1 protein in the medial PFC (mPFC) of male mice.

Background: The impact of intensive hypertension criteria on multimorbidity prevalence and patterns remains understudied. We investigated the prevalence and patterns of multimorbidity using both the current (140/90 mmHg) and intensive (130/80 mmHg) hypertension criteria within a multi-ethnic Chinese population.
Methods: Data were obtained from the baseline survey of the Regional Ethnic Cohort Study in Northwest China, conducted from June 2018 to May 2019, which enrolled adults aged 35-74 years from five provinces.

Background: Surfactant protein-A (SP-A) is the most prevalent protein in the pulmonary surfactant system and it is expressed in Type II alveolar epithelial cells.
Materials And Methods: We evaluated SP-A expression in 92 fetal human lungs at various gestational ages in Myanmar (Burma) using hematoxylin and eosin staining and immunohistochemical assays.
Results: We detected tubular structures in the fetal lungs during the canalicular stage of development at gestational weeks 22-25.

Background: Cluster of differentiation 47 (CD47), a transmembrane protein, plays a critical role in regulating cellular functions and maintaining immune homeostasis. Its expression has been shown to influence cancer prognosis. In this study, we investigated the role of CD47 in tumor progression in colon adenocarcinoma (COAD) and evaluated its potential as a target for immunotherapy.

Probiotic foods are foods containing probiotics, including dairy and non-dairy products, that exert significant beneficial impacts on human health. Benefiting from the rapid progress in systems biology, diverse types of probiotics with prominent health-promoting functionalities are unraveled, albeit such functions could be substantially influenced by the stress environments. Here, we conducted a comprehensive review to characterize the state-of-the-art research on probiotic foods and specific probiotics employed in their production.

20-hydroxyecdysone (20E), a natural polyhydroxylated steroid, has exhibited anti-inflammatory effects across various diseases. This study investigates the potential connection between 20E's anti-inflammatory properties and the RNA-binding protein Lin28b, which is notably upregulated in TNF-α-stimulated endothelial cells. Herein, we discovered that 20E can selectively downregulate Lin28b expression without affecting its paralog Lin28a.

Background: The current congenital heart disease (CHD) prediction tools lack adequate interpretability and convenience, hindering the development of personalized CHD management strategies. We developed a machine learning-based risk stratification model for CHD prediction.
Methods: This study utilized data from 1,759 participants in a case-control study of CHD conducted across six birth defects surveillance hospitals located in Xi'an, Shaanxi Province, Northwest China, spanning from January 2014 to December 2016.

Background: Little evidence is available on the long-term health effects of nitrogen dioxide (NO) in low-income and middle-income populations. We investigated the associations of long-term NO exposure with the incidence of a wide spectrum of disease outcomes, based on data from the China Kadoorie Biobank.
Methods: This prospective cohort study involved 512 724 Chinese adults aged 30-79 years recruited from ten areas of China during 2004-08.

Exposure to fine particulate matter (PM) is recognized to induce atherosclerosis, but the underlying mechanisms are not fully understood. This study used ambient PM samples collected in one of the highly polluted regions of Guanzhong Plain in China (2017-2020) and an ApoE mouse model to investigate the association between exposure to PM and atherosclerosis. Despite a substantial decrease in the ambient concentration of PM from 266.

Blast neurotrauma has been linked to impairments in higher-order cognitive functions, including memory, attention, and mood. Current literature is limited to a single overpressure exposure or repeated exposures at the same level of overpressure. In this study, a rodent model of primary blast neurotrauma was employed to determine the pressure at which acute and chronic neurological alterations occurred.

Background: In recent years, the frequent outbreaks of infectious diseases and insufficient emergency response capabilities, particularly issues exposed during the COVID-19 pandemic, have underscored the critical role of nurses in addressing public health crises. It is currently necessary to investigate the emergency preparedness of nursing personnel following the COVID-19 pandemic completely liberalized, aiming to identify weaknesses and optimize response strategies.
Objective: This study aimed to assess the emergency response competence of nurses, identify their specific training needs, and explore the various elements that impact their emergency response competence.

Purpose: β-amyloid overload-induced neuroinflammation and neuronal loss are key pathological changes that occur during the progression of Alzheimer's disease (AD). Dexmedetomidine (Dex) exhibits neuroprotective and anti-inflammatory effects on the nervous system. However, the effect of Dex in AD mice remains unclear, and its neuroprotective regulatory mechanism requires further investigation.

Increasing studies are indicating a potential association between ambient air pollution exposure and fasting blood glucose (FBG), an indicator of prediabetes and diabetes. However, there is inconsistency within the existing literature. The aim of this study was to summarize the associations of exposures to particulate matters (PMs) (with aerodynamic diameters of ≤1 μm (PM), ≤2.
