Article Synopsis
  • A previous study linked the loss of CFAP47 function to sperm abnormalities (MMAF) in both humans and mice, but its exact role in sperm production (spermatogenesis) is still unclear.
  • In this study, whole-exome sequencing identified a new mutation (c.1414G>A; p.V472M) in two patients with sperm issues, suggesting CFAP47's reduced expression affects sperm shape and structure.
  • The findings extend our understanding of CFAP47-related infertility and may help inform genetic counseling and treatments for male infertility linked to such mutations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the 3D genome structures of human adipose tissues (ATs) compared to six other mammals, aiming to uncover unique aspects of human metabolic regulation.
  • It identifies both evolutionarily conserved and human-specific chromatin configurations, highlighting that human-specific promoter-enhancer interactions (PEIs) are more dynamic and less conserved than their counterparts.
  • The research finds that genes related to energy metabolism in humans are linked with unique chromatin organization, while conserved genes are more associated with general housekeeping functions, revealing significant differences in genomic regulation between humans and other mammals.

Dysregulated low-density granulocyte contributes to early spontaneous abortion.

Front Immunol

March 2023

Jinxin Research Institute for Reproductive Medicine and Genetics, Chengdu Xi'nan Gynecology Hospital, Chengdu, Sichuan, China.

Spontaneous abortion (SA) is a common adverse pregnancy event with unclarified pathogenesis and limited therapeutic efficiency. Although most SA cases with the euploid embryo(s) are associated with immunological factors, the contribution of low-density granulocyte (LDG) in SA pathogenesis is rarely reported. This study aimed to investigate the serial characteristics and possible contribution of LDG and their subpopulations in early pregnancy, especially in early SA.

Exploring high-resolution chromatin interaction changes and functional enhancers of myogenic marker genes during myogenic differentiation.

J Biol Chem

August 2022

Institute of Animal Genetics and Breeding, College of Animal Science and Technology, Sichuan Agricultural University, Chengdu, China. Electronic address:

Skeletal muscle differentiation (myogenesis) is a complex and highly coordinated biological process regulated by a series of myogenic marker genes. Chromatin interactions between gene's promoters and their enhancers have an important role in transcriptional control. However, the high-resolution chromatin interactions of myogenic genes and their functional enhancers during myogenesis remain largely unclear.

Loss-of-function p.G970D missense mutation might cause congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens and be associated with impaired spermatogenesis.

Asian J Androl

January 2023

Department of Obstetrics/Gynecology, Key Laboratory of Obstetric, Gynecologic and Pediatric Diseases and Birth Defects of Ministry of Education, West China Second University Hospital, Sichuan University, Chengdu 610041, China.

Congenital bilateral absence of the vas deferens (CBAVD) is observed in 1%-2% of males presenting with infertility and is clearly associated with cystic fibrosis transmembrane conductance regulator (CFTR) mutations. CFTR is one of the most well-known genes related to male fertility. The frequency of CFTR mutations or impaired CFTR expression is increased in men with nonobstructive azoospermia (NOA).
