Background: The objective of this study is to evaluate the concentrations of heavy metals and radionuclides in water and fish samples collected from six designated sampling stations along the Linshui River, in close proximity to a Uranium Tailing Pond situated in China. Additionally, it seeks to estimate the bioaccumulation of heavy metals and conduct risk assessments, both carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic, for consumers.
Methods: Water and fish samples (yellowhead catfish and common carp) were systematically collected from six stations along the river from January to June 2023, adhering to ethical standards and standard protocols for assessing water quality.

Background: Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a common complication of acute and severe neurosurgery. Remodeling of N6-methyladenosine (m6A) stabilization may be an attractive treatment option for neurological dysfunction after TBI. In the present study, the authors explored the epigenetic methylation of RNA-mediated NLRP3 inflammasome activation after TBI.

The Fscn2 (Fascin2) gene encodes an actin cross-linking protein that is involved in the formation of hair cell stereocilia and retina structure. Mutations in Fscn2 gene have been linked to hearing impairment and retinal degeneration in humans and mice. To understand the function of the Fscn2 gene, we generated the Fscn2 knockout mice, which showed progressive loss of hearing and hair cells.

The lysyl oxidase (LOX) gene family encodes for a group of copper-dependent enzymes that play a crucial role in the cross-linking of collagen and elastin fibers in the extracellular matrix (ECM). Dysregulation of LOX gene expression has been implicated in various pathological conditions, including cancer. Several studies have shown that the LOX gene family is involved in cancer progression and metastasis.

Introduction: Gut-microbiota-brain axis is a potential treatment to decrease the risk of chronic traumatic encephalopathy following traumatic brain injury (TBI). Phosphoglycerate mutase 5 (PGAM5), a mitochondrial serine/threonine protein phosphatase, resides in mitochondrial membrane and regulates mitochondrial homeostasis and metabolism. Mitochondria mediates intestinal barrier and gut microbiome.

One of the materials that has recently been used to remove environmental pollution from industrial effluents with photocatalytic technology is cobalt chromate (CoCrO) nanoparticles. An effective way to improve the photocatalytic properties of materials is to composite them with other photocatalysts to prevent recombination of electron-holes and accelerate the transfer of oxidation/reduction agents. Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) is an excellent choice due to its unique properties.

Aim: Ferroptosis is increasingly becoming to be considered as an important mechanism of pathological cell death during stroke, and specific exogenous ferroptosis inhibitors have the ability to reverse cerebral ischemia/reperfusion injury. However, research on Srs11-92 (AA9), a ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1) analog, in preclinical studies is limited.
Methods: In the middle cerebral artery occlusion-reperfusion (MCAO/R) mice model or oxygen-glucose deprivation/reperfusion (OGD/R) cell model, Fer-1, AA9, and/or ML385 were administered, and brain infarct size, neurological deficits, neuronal damage, oxidative stress, and neuroinflammation were determined after the damage, in vitro and in vivo.

The quality of human settlement environment (HSE) is related to people's well-being. Since the implementation of the Western Development Strategy and the Grain to Green Program, the HSE in northern Shaanxi has undergone a major transformation. In order to explore the evolution pattern and seek a coordinated development strategy for all systems in the whole region, this paper, from the perspective of "production-living-ecological", evaluates the HSE niche breadth of northern Shaanxi based on the ecological niche theory, analyzes its spatial differentiation characteristics, and identifies the development barrier factors, with the help of ArcGIS spatial analysis tools and the barrier degree model.

Background: Cesarean section (CS) has become an effective means to solve dystocia and some obstetric complications, and to save the lives of women and perinatal women. Disparities in quality obstetric care and rehabilitation in CS result from differences in health care systems across regions, and more scientific and reasonable rehabilitation programmes and management measures will benefit more parturient and newborns worldwide who must take CS. In this study, we performed a bibliometric analysis to collect a graphical representation of the CS recovery.

Magnesium (Mg)-based composites, as one group of the biodegradable materials, enjoy high biodegradability, biocompatibility, and non-toxicity making them a great option for implant applications. In this paper, by the semi powder metallurgy (SPM) technique, the graphene nano-platelets (GNPs) and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) nanosystems, as reinforcements, are dispersed homogenously in the Mg-Zn (MZ) alloy matrix. Subsequently, the composite is successfully produced employing the spark plasma sintering (SPS) process.

One of the most important methods of controlling the properties of concrete and cement-based materials is to control the rate and kinetics of cement hydration. In the present study, novel flexible polyurethane-decorated MgO nanohybrids were synthesized using a simple chemical method, added to cement paste in different amounts, and utilized as an effective mechanical performance-enhancing factor for cement paste. It was observed that by adding 3 wt% synthesized PU-MgO nanohybrids to cement paste, its mechanical properties were improved and its compressive strength and flexural strength were increased by up to 13% and 15%, respectively, compared to the plain cement, after 45 days.

Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) plays an important role in the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). However, the lack of adequate and scientifically rigorous evidence has limited its application in this disorder. Sanbai melon seed oil (SMSO) is used in folk medicine to treat DM; however, only few literature reports exist regarding its mechanism.

In this study, Eriochrome Black T (EBT) in water was decolorized by means of argon atmospheric pressure plasma jet (APPJ), which showed great decolorization performance. The results showed that the relatively high decolorization rate (approximately 80%) was obtained after plasma treatment for 6 min. Changes to some reactive oxygen and nitrogen species (RONS) in the liquid phase were detected.
