USF1 Silencing Reduces Ferroptosis Resistance in Prostate Cancer Cells.

Arch Esp Urol

September 2024

Urology Department, Xi'an Qinhuang Hospital, 710600 Xi'an, Shaanxi, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Ferroptosis is a specific type of iron-dependent cell death that is tied to how prostate cancer (PCa) cells invade, yet its underlying mechanisms are not well understood.
  • This study investigated how upstream stimulatory factor 1 (USF1) influences ferroptosis resistance in invasive PCa by silencing USF1 in cell lines and assessing changes in cell viability, invasion, and protein expression levels.
  • Results showed that silencing USF1 decreased cell viability and invasion, while overexpressing a protein (BAX) that interacts with USF1 reversed the effects, indicating that USF1 promotes PCa cell invasion and reduces susceptibility to ferroptosis.

Quercetin Alleviates LPS-Stimulated Myocardial Injury through Regulating ALOX5/PI3K/AKT Pathway in Sepsis.

Cardiovasc Toxicol

October 2024

Department of Cardiology, Xi'an Qinhuang Hospital, Middle Section of Qinhan Avenue, Xiquan Street, Lintong District, Xi'an, 710600, Shaanxi, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Quercetin (QUE) shows potential in inhibiting sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SIC) by reducing cell apoptosis, inflammation, and ferroptosis in human cardiac cells.
  • QUE decreases the expression of 5-lipoxygenase (ALOX5), which is associated with increased adverse effects in SIC.
  • The study suggests that QUE's protective effects against myocardial injury could be linked to the regulation of the ALOX5/PI3K/AKT signaling pathway.
