Diabetes has been regarded as an independent risk factor for Alzheimer's disease (AD). Liraglutide could improve cognition in AD mouse models, but its precise mechanism remains unclear. In this study, we used STZ-induced diabetic rats and HT-22 cells to investigate the effects of liraglutide.

5-Fluorouracil (5-FU) is widely used in the treatment of gastric cancer, and the emergence of drug resistance and toxic effects has limited its application. Therefore, there is an urgent need for safe and effective novel drugs or new therapies. β-Ionone (BI) is found in vegetables and fruits and possesses an inhibitory proliferation of tumor cells in vitro and in vivo.

Objective: The intricate relationship between sleep deprivation (SD) and cognitive performance has long been a subject of research. Our study offers a novel angle by closely examining the neurobiological underpinnings of sustained attention deficits through the lens of the fronto-parietal network (FPN). Using state-of-the-art imaging techniques, we delve into the changes in spontaneous brain activity after SD and explore their associations with performance on the psychomotor vigilance task (PVT).

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of family integrated care (FICare) on the prognosis of children hospitalized with preterm infants.
Methods: Two hundred thirty preterm infants admitted to our hospital from January 2019 to April 2021 were enrolled in a prospective randomized study and divided into 115 cases in the intervention group and 115 cases in the control group according to the random number table method, and given the FICare and the conventional care, respectively. The duration of nasogastric tube retention, time to achieve total enteral nutrition, rate of weight gain, exclusive breastfeeding rate, length of hospital stay, growth and development, readmission rate, parental self-efficacy, family functioning and complications related to prematurity were compared between the two groups.

Background: Coronary heart disease (CHD) is closely associated with cognitive impairment, especially in severe cases of heart failure. However, it is unclear whether cardiac systolic function plays a role in the relationship between pre-existing CHD and cognitive impairment in subjects without clinical heart failure.
Methods: In total, 208 subjects from the First Affiliated Hospital of Xi'an Jiaotong University were recruited from June 2014 to January 2015, and were divided into CHD ( = 118) and non-CHD ( = 90) groups according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria.

Excessive monocyte/macrophage activation with the development of a cytokine storm and subsequent acute lung injury, leading to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), is a feared consequence of infection with COVID-19. The ability to recognize and potentially intervene early in those patients at greatest risk of developing this complication could be of great clinical utility. In this study, we performed flow cytometric analysis of peripheral blood samples from 34 COVID-19 patients in early 2020 in an attempt to identify factors that could help predict the severity of disease and patient outcome.

Na/H exchanger 1 (NHE1) is a ubiquitously expressed protein on mammalian plasma membranes and involved in cell apoptosis and tissue injury. Our previous study found that NHE1 inhibition prevents burn-induced acute lung injury (ALI). However, the potential mechanism of NHE1 in burn-induced ALI is still unclear.

Genistein (Gen) exhibits strong anti-oxidative/antinitrative activity and cardioprotective effects in several models; however, its role in burn-induced myocardial injury is unknown. This study investigated the protective effect of Gen on burn-induced myocardial injury and aimed to elucidate the mechanism of protection. Mice were injected with Gen, intraperitoneally, at different dose immediately after burn injury.
