Article Synopsis
  • Dystrobrevin beta (DTNB) is part of the dystrophin-associated protein complex and its expression is influenced by the long noncoding RNA (lncRNA) HOXD-AS1, particularly in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) cells.
  • High levels of DTNB in HCC are linked to various clinical factors like tumor stage and prognosis, indicating its role as an independent risk marker for patient survival.
  • Investigations suggest DTNB regulates the cell cycle and is involved in immune responses and drug sensitivity in HCC, with a potential regulatory mechanism involving a ceRNA network with HOXD-AS1 and miR-139-3p.

The use of histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDACis) is an effective approach for cancer treatment. In this work, a series of hydroxamic acid-based HDACis with a tetrahydro-β-carboline core and aliphatic linker have been designed and synthesized. The optimal compound 13d potently inhibited HDAC1 and showed good antiproliferative activity against different tumor cell lines .

The Key Laboratory of Shaanxi Province for Craniofacial Precision Medicine Research, College of Stomatology, Xi'an Jiaotong University Xi'an 710004, Shaanxi, P. R. China.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have been demonstrated as crucial transcriptional regulators in proliferation, differentiation, and tumorigenesis. The comprehensive miRNA profiles of osteogenic/odontogenic differentiation of human dental pulp stem cells (hDPSCs) under the condition of mechanical stress remains largely unknown. In this study, we aimed to discover the miRNA expression profiles of hDPSCs exposed to mechanical stress under the osteogenic/odontogenic process.

Evidence suggests that immune dysfunction exerts a central role in the morbidity and mortality of sepsis. As the spleen is the largest lymphatic tissue in the body, its influence on immune regulation during sepsis should be explored. In this study, we analysed the immune alterations of the spleen of septic rats and the effects of splenectomy at 6 h, 12 h, and 24 h following caecal ligation and puncture (CLP).

Genetic variations in base excision repair pathway genes and risk of hepatoblastoma: a seven-center case-control study.

Am J Cancer Res

March 2021

Department of Pediatric Surgery, Guangzhou Institute of Pediatrics, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Research in Structural Birth Defect Disease, Guangzhou Women and Children's Medical Center, Guangzhou Medical University Guangzhou 510623, Guangdong, China.

Hepatoblastoma is a rare childhood liver cancer without known explicit etiology. Base excision repair (BER) pathway genes have been implicated in the pathophysiology of cancer, yet the role of BER pathway gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on hepatoblastoma risk still awaits to be explored. This study aims to determine whether hepatoblastoma risk be modulated by polymorphisms in the BER pathway genes based on genotyped data from 313 cases and 1446 controls.

Glycosylation is involved in several biological processes, and its alterations can reflect the process of certain diseases. Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) has attained the status of a global pandemic; however, the difference in salivary protein glycosylation between healthy subjects and patients with T2DM has not been fully understood. In the present study, salivary specimens from patients with T2DM ( = 72) and healthy volunteers (HVs, = 80) were enrolled and divided into discovery and validation cohorts.
