Introduction: With increases in implant infections, the search for antibacterial and biofilm coatings has become a new interest for orthopaedists and dentists. In recent years, graphene oxide (GO) has been extensively studied for its superior antibacterial properties. However, most of these studies have focused on solutions and there are few antibacterial studies on metal surfaces, especially the surfaces of cobalt-chromium-molybdenum (CoCrMo) alloys.

Background: Linear blisters (LBs) often occur around dressings when negative-pressure wound therapy (NPWT) is used to cover open wounds. Tension blisters may increase the wound infection incidence rate, delay the start of operation, and prolong the duration of hospital stay. Currently, there are no established methods for the prevention of LB formation around dressings, which remains to be a major concern in clinical applications.

This study aimed to investigate the intermediate-term efficacy of nonosteotomy approaches in the treatment of early to intermediate stage ankle osteoarthritis (OA). Forty-two patients received treatment for early to intermediate stage ankle osteoarthritis with nonosteotomy approaches were reviewed. The surgical satisfaction was evaluated at 1 year after surgery and the last follow-up period; the American Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (AOFAS) scale and Visual Analog Scale (VAS) were employed for the evaluation of function and pain, respectively, and the stage of ankle osteoarthritis was determined.

Objective: To design a novel blocking screws (BSs) geometry and insertion method to treat distal tibia fracture with nailing and comparison of mechanical properties of novel and traditional screws.
Methods: Twenty-one synthetic left tibiae were sectioned to obtain 21 distal segments measuring 55 mm. Intramedullary (IM) 9-mm tibial nails were advanced to 6 mm from the ankle joint.

Fusion with a titanium mesh cage (TMC) has become popular as a conventional method after cervical anterior corpectomy, but postoperative TMC subsidence has often been reported in the literature. We designed a novel anatomic cervical TMC to reduce the postoperative subsidence rate. According to the test process specified in the American Society of Testing Materials (ASTM) F2267 standard, three-dimensional finite element analysis was used to compare the anti-subsidence characteristics of a traditional TMC (TTMC) and novel TMC (NTMC).

Local and general anesthesia are the main techniques used during percutaneous kyphoplasty (PKP); however, both are associated with adverse reactions. Monitored anesthesia with dexmedetomidine may be the appropriate sedative and analgesic technique. Few studies have compared monitored anesthesia with other anesthesia modalities during PKP.

Femoral shaft nonunion is a complication that seriously affects physiological functions. We aimed to assess the effectiveness and safety of short- and long-term intravenous tranexamic acid (TXA) administration in the perioperative period of revision surgery for femoral shaft nonunion. In this retrospective study, 53 patients undergoing double-locking plates with channel bone grafting technology for the treatment of femoral shaft nonunion were divided into 3 groups: the patients in group A without use TXA during hospitalization, the patients in group B received intravenous (IV) 1-g TXA at 30 min before the surgery and deep soaked 1-g TXA for 5 min before closing the incision, and then 1-g TXA IV again 6 h after surgery, and the patients in group C received 1-g TXA IV before the operation, 1-g TXA topically during the operation, and subsequent long-term 1-g TXA IV until discharged.

Primary open angle glaucoma (POAG) is the leading cause of irreversible blindness. Dysfunction of the trabecular meshwork (TM), resulting in decreased outflow of aqueous humor and increased intraocular pressure (IOP), plays an important role in the pathogenesis of POAG. However, the underlying mechanisms still remain unclear.

In thoracolumbar vertebral tumors, reconstruction of complex multi-segment thoracolumbar vertebrae after total en-bloc spondylectomy (TES) is still challenging. In recent years, with the development of 3D printing technology, individualized 3D printed artificial vertebrae have been attempted to reconstruct complex multi-segment thoracolumbar spine. Compared with traditional titanium mesh or bone transplantation, it helps reduce long-term complications, bringing a new dawn for reconstructing multi-segment thoracolumbar spine.

Depression is one of most common psychiatric disorders, and the detailed molecular mechanism remains to be fully elucidated. Brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) is a critical neurotrophic factor that is decreased and closely involved in the development of depression. Noncoding RNAs are central regulators of cellular activities that modulate target genes.
