Parvalbumin interneurons belong to the major types of GABAergic interneurons. Although the distribution and pathological alterations of parvalbumin interneuron somata have been widely studied, the distribution and vulnerability of the neurites and fibers extending from parvalbumin interneurons have not been detailly interrogated. Through the Cre recombinase-reporter system, we visualized parvalbumin-positive fibers and thoroughly investigated their spatial distribution in the mouse brain.

Chronic liver disease is a significant public health issue that can lead to considerable morbidity and mortality, imposing an enormous burden on healthcare resources. Understanding the mechanisms underlying chronic liver disease pathogenesis and developing effective treatment strategies are urgently needed. In this regard, the activation of liver resident macrophages, namely Kupffer cells, plays a vital role in liver inflammation and fibrosis.

The treatment of ulna coronal process fractures in the terrible triad of elbow, especially type I and II Regan-Morrey coronoid fractures, still have been controversial. The purpose of this retrospective study was to evaluate the novel Lasso-plate technique to have a more reliable fixation and a well clinical outcomes for type I and II Regan-Morrey coronoid fractures in a terrible triad of the elbow (TTE). Patients with simple TTE, closed fracture, aged > 18 years, duration of injury < 2 weeks, type I and II Regan-Morrey coronoid process fracture fixed by the Lasso-plate technique or ORIF were enrolled in the study.

Background: The subtalar joint may compensate for tibio-talar deformity, but what would happen to the joint after the deformity was corrected is not well known. Supramalleolar osteotomy (SMOT) is an effective procedure for the treatment of varus deformity of ankle arthritis. The objective of this study was to investigate the subtalar joint alignment pre and postoperatively following SMOT, and the factors which influenced the alignment of the subtalar joint.

Kummell's Disease (KD) was originally proposed by Dr. Hermann Kummell in 1891 as a type of delayed posttraumatic vertebral collapse, which is a clinical phenomenon. The purpose of this experiment is to compare the strength of bone cement and the novel bone cement bridging screw in the treatment of thoracolumbar Kummell disease (KD) with other treatment methods.

We reported 2 cases of patellar tendon rupture at the lower pole of the patella. For patellar tendon rupture, simple suture fixation has been proved to be inadequate in strength. Our center uses custom-made anchor-like plate and suture to treat proximal patellar fracture.

TiAlV is a widely used orthopedic implant material in clinics. Due to its poor antibacterial properties, surface modification is required to prevent peri-implantation infection. However, chemical linkers used for surface modification have generally been reported to have detrimental effects on cell growth.

Introduction: The treatment of extra-articular distal tibia fractures is a difficult challenge. Minimally invasive plating osteosynthesis (MIPO) and intramedullary nailing (IMN) are satisfactory extra-articular distal tibia fractures. The optimal surgical treatment for extra-articular distal tibia fractures remains controversial.

The aim of this study was to assess the safety and clinical outcome of patients with a femoral shaft fracture and a previous complex post-traumatic femoral malunion who were treated with a clamshell osteotomy and fixation with an intramedullary nail (IMN). The study involved a retrospective analysis of 23 patients. All had a previous, operatively managed, femoral shaft fracture with malunion due to hardware failure.

Insulin resistance (IR) is one of the leading causes of Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Inflammation, as a result of the disordered immune response, plays important roles in IR and T2DM. Interleukin-4-induced gene 1 (IL4I1) has been shown to regulate immune response and be involved in inflammation progress.

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD) is a common degenerative disease mediated by multiple factors. Because of its complex aetiology and pathology, no specific molecular mechanisms have yet been identified and no definitive treatments are currently available for IVDD. p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) signalling, part of the serine and threonine (Ser/Thr) protein kinases family, is associated with the progression of IVDD, by mediating the inflammatory response, increasing extracellular matrix (ECM) degradation, promoting cell apoptosis and senescence and suppressing cell proliferation and autophagy.

Objective: Tension band wiring and proximal ulnar plate fixation are commonly used fixation methods for olecranon fractures. However, they may not be suitable for repairing proximal olecranon avulsion fractures. In this study, we present a novel fixation technique for the treatment of proximal avulsion fractures, which is a T-shaped plate combined with a wire.

Objective: The aim of this study was to present our experience with a new modified Ilizarov technique of acute shortening and double-level lengthening (ASDL) for the management of large tibial bone defects after trauma and infection and compare it with bone transport (BT).
Methods: A retrospective comparative study was performed on 47 patients with large tibial defects after trauma and infection from June 2014 to June 2018. Depending on different Ilizarov methods, these patients were divided into ASDL group (n = 21) and BT group (n = 26).

Intervertebral disc degeneration (IVDD), a common cartilage-degenerative disease, is considered the main cause of low back pain (LBP). Owing to the complex aetiology and pathophysiology of IVDD, its molecular mechanisms and definitive treatment of IVDD remain unclear. As an evolutionarily and functionally conserved signalling pathway, Hippo-YAP/TAZ signalling plays a crucial role in IVDD progression.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a debilitating joint disease affecting nearly 400 million people with no efficient etiological therapies. OA is primarily identified by cartilage destruction, and gradual degeneration of the whole joint would happen when the OA progresses. Hence, cartilage has been identified as the primary therapeutic target of OA.

When bone cement is used to strengthen the vertebrae in patients with Kummell disease (KD), loosening and displacement of cement are common complications that can cause poor results. We developed a bone cement bridging screw system to avoid this complication. This three-dimensional finite element study aims to analyze the biomechanical properties of the novel bridging screw system and compare it to single vertebroplasty and vertebroplasty combined with pediculoplasty.

Background: lncRNA, a type of non-coding RNA, plays an important role in the osteogenic differentiation of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (BM-MSCs). In this study, lncRNA and mRNA microarrays were performed to study the change of gene expression during osteogenic differentiation of BM-MSCs. We focused on Hedgehog interacting protein (HHIP), because HHIP mRNA and lncRNA HHIP-AS1 were gradually down-regulated on days 0, 7, and 14 during osteogenic differentiation.

Purpose: To compare the bone transport over an intramedullary nail in combination with antibiotic-impregnated calcium sulphate versus bone transport alone with antibiotic-impregnated calcium sulphate for the treatment of tibial large bone defects.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted by enroling 33 surgically treated patients with tibial large bone defects after the debridement for tibial infection or osteomyelitis who were admitted in Lower Limb Surgery Ward of Traumatic orthopaedic Department, Xi'an Honghui Hospital from January 2018 to January 2021. All the patients were categorized in Group A (transport over intramedullary nail, 12 cases) and Group B (transport alone, 21 cases) based on the surgery strategy.

In the present study, we presented our experience with a new modified technique of shortening and re-lengthening using a monolateral external frame combined with a calcaneal intramedullary nail and compared it with the bone transport technique for the treatment of distal tibial periarticular post-traumatic defects. Forty-one patients were retrospectively analyzed. Among them 19 were treated using our modified shortening and re-lengthening technique (MSR group) and 22 by bone transport (BT group).
