Spinal stenosis is a commonly chronic spinal degenerative disease, which is a major cause of pain and dysfunction in the elderly. Mendelian randomization (MR) has been widely applied to repurpose licensed drugs and identify novel therapeutic targets. Consequently, we intended to identify new therapeutic targets for spinal stenosis and to analyze their possible mechanisms and potential side effects.

Spinal stenosis is a prevalent degenerative spinal disease and one of the main causes of pain and dysfunction in older adults. Substantial evidence indicates a potentially relevant association between type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and spinal stenosis. However, the causality between these 2 disorders remains unclear.

Copper, a vital trace element, is indispensable for the maintenance of physiological functioning, particularly in the cardiac system. Unlike other forms of cell death such as iron death and apoptosis, copper‑induced cell death has gained increasing recognition as a significant process influencing the development of cardiovascular diseases. The present review highlights the significance of maintaining copper homeostasis in addressing cardiovascular diseases.

A Bibliometric Analysis of Metabolic Reprogramming in the Tumor Microenvironment From 2003 to 2022.

Cancer Rep (Hoboken)

August 2024

Department of Oncology, Guang'anmen Hospital, China Academy of Chinese Medical Sciences, Beijing, China.

Background: Despite considerable progress in cancer immunotherapy, it is not available for many patients. Resistance to immune checkpoint blockers arises from the intricate interactions between cancer and its microenvironment. Metabolic reprogramming in tumor and immune cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME) influences anti-tumor immune responses by remodeling the immune microenvironment.

Background: Lung cancer is the leading cause of cancer deaths, and non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) accounts for the majority of lung cancer-related mortality. In recent years, there have been numerous treatments for non-small cell lung cancer, but the cure and survival rates are still extremely low. Isobavachalcone (IBC) belongs to the chalcone component of the traditional Chinese medicine Psoralea corylifolia L.

The study was aimed to investigate microarchitecture of osteochondral junction in patients with osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH). We hypothesis that there were microarchitecture alternations in osteochondral junction and regional differences between the necrotic region (NR) and adjacent non-necrotic region(ANR) in patients with ONFH. Femoral heads with ONFH or femoral neck fracture were included in ONFH group (n = 11) and control group (n = 11).

Objective: To examine the effects of levosimendan on cardiac function, hemodynamics, and body inflammation of patients with acute myocardial infarction and heart failure.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 113 acute myocardial infarction patients with heart failure (admitted to Xianyang First People's Hospital from September 2018 to January 2022). According to the treatment plan, patients were categorized into a control group (n = 53) (treated with conventional diuresis and vasodilation) and observation group (n = 60) (treated with levosimendan in addition to the treatment of the control group).

[Risk factors for osteonecrosis of femoral head after femoral neck fracture fixation with femoral neck system].

Zhongguo Xiu Fu Chong Jian Wai Ke Za Zhi

February 2023

Department of Orthopedics, Xi'an Fifth Hospital, Xi'an Shaanxi, 710082, P. R. China.

Objective: To explore the risk factors for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) after treatment of femoral neck fractures with femoral neck system (FNS).

Methods: Between January 2020 and February 2021, 179 patients (182 hips) with femoral neck fractures treated by FNS fixation were selected for retrospective analysis. There were 96 males and 83 females with an average age of 53.

Reverse transcriptase (RT) plays an indispensable role in the replication of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) through its associated polymerase and ribonuclease H (RNase H) activities during the viral RNA genome transformation into proviral DNA. Due to the fact that HIV is a highly mutagenic virus and easily resistant to single-target RT inhibitors, dual inhibitors targeting HIV RT associated polymerase and RNase H have been developed. These dual inhibitors have the advantages of increasing efficacy, reducing drug resistance, drug-drug interactions, and cytotoxicity, as well as improving patient compliance.

Objective: Gastric carcinoma (GC) has received extensive attention due to its complex pathogenesis. Studies have shown that the expression of Trefoil factor 1 (TFF1) and Partner and localiser of BRCA2 (PALB2) genes promotes the occurrence of GC. Therefore, we investigated whether TFF1 and PALB2 gene polymorphisms are associated with GC risk in the Chinese Han population.

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that requires long-term treatment and monitoring. Inhibition of inflammatory gene expression by gene therapy is a significant breakthrough in RA treatment, but the lack of a safe and effective gene delivery system hinders its application. Since oral administration can significantly reduce wound infection caused by parenteral administration, it also has the advantages of high patient compliance and convenience.

Objective: The present study aims to (1) analyze the clinical characteristics and related influencing factors of knee bone infarction in systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and (2) improve the understanding of SLE complicated with knee bone infarction.

Methods: The data of patients with SLE complicated with knee bone infarction were retrospectively analysed; patients with SLE during the same period who matched in age, gender, and disease duration were selected as control subjects, with a 1 : 1 ratio with the SLE group. The clinical data were collected to analyze the risk factors for SLE complicated with knee bone infarction.

It is known that long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 00707 (LINC00707) promotes lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-injury and microRNA-199-3p (miR-199-3p) regulates chondrocyte proliferation and apoptosis. Both processes participate in osteoarthritis (OA). We predicted that LINC00707 and miR-199-3p may interact with each other.

Protective Role of Collectin 11 in a Mouse Model of Rheumatoid Arthritis.

Arthritis Rheumatol

August 2021

National Local Joint Engineering Research Centre of Biodiagnostics and Biotherapy, and The Second Affiliated Hospital, Xi'an Jiaotong University, Xi'an, China.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the role of soluble C-type lectin, CL-11, in a mouse model of rheumatoid arthritis (RA) to understand its impact on autoimmune disorders.
  • Findings indicate that mice lacking CL-11 showed more severe arthritis symptoms and increased levels of inflammatory responses compared to normal mice.
  • Treatment with recombinant CL-11 reduced arthritis severity, and lower CL-11 levels in human patients correlated with higher disease activity, highlighting its potential protective role against RA.
