Wuzhou Health System Key Laboratory for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Etiology and Molecular Mechanism, Wuzhou, Guangxi 543002, China ; Department of Clinical Laboratory, Wuzhou Red Cross Hospital, Wuzhou, Guangxi 543002, China.

This study aims to investigate the expression of macrophage inflammatory protein-3 alpha (MIP-3α) and cystatin A in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) and their association with clinical characteristics and prognosis. Primary tumor specimens from 114 NPC patients and associated clinical follow-up data were collected, and the expression of MIP-3α and cystatin A proteins was investigated by immunohistochemistry. Expression of MIP-3α was significantly associated with TNM stage in patients with NPC (P < 0.

Identification of the sAPRIL binding peptide and its growth inhibition effects in the colorectal cancer cells.

PLoS One

March 2016

Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Gastroenterology, Institute of Digestive Diseases, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou 510515, Guangdong Province, China.

Background: A proliferation-inducing ligand (APRIL) is a member of the tumor necrosis factor (TNF) super family. It binds to its specific receptors and is involved in multiple processes during tumorigenesis and tumor cells proliferation. High levels of APRIL expression are closely correlated to the growth, metastasis, and 5-FU drug resistance of colorectal cancer.

Increased serum levels of macrophage inflammatory protein-3α and cystatin a predict a poor prognosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma.

Medicine (Baltimore)

November 2014

Wuzhou Health System Key Laboratory for Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma Etiology and Molecular Mechanism (YC, JL, AL, YZ, HZ, MT); Clinical Laboratory (YC, JL, AL); Department of Radiation Oncology (WZ, JG), Wuzhou Red Cross Hospital, Wuzhou, Guangxi; Second People's Hospital of Zhuhai (WW), Zhuhai, Guangdong; and College of Life Science and Bioengineering (MT), Beijing University of Technology, Beijing, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * Findings showed that pretreatment levels of MIP-3α and cystatin A were significantly higher in NPC patients compared to controls, with levels decreasing after treatment for most patients.
  • * Higher pre-treatment serum levels of these proteins were linked to worse overall survival and increased risk of local recurrence and distant metastasis, suggesting they are potential independent prognostic factors for NPC outcomes.

Unlabelled: Genetic factors, as well as environmental factors, play a role in development of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). A number of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) have been reported to be associated with NPC. To confirm these genetic associations with NPC, two independent case-control studies from Southern China comprising 1166 NPC cases and 2340 controls were conducted.

[Research progress on hereditary fibrinogen abnormalities].

Zhongguo Shi Yan Xue Ye Xue Za Zhi

August 2014

Department of Laboratorial Examination, Wuzhou Red Cross Hospital, Wuzhou 543002, Guangxi Autonomous Region, China. E-mail:

As the most abundant component of coagulation system, fibrinogen not only takes part in clotting, but also works as one of acute phase proteins, which participates in many physiological and pathophysiological processes. Studies of fibrinogen abnormalities contribute to understand the molecular basis of disorders of fibrinogen protein function and metabolism, caused mainly by gene mutation, commonly associated with bleeding, thrombophilia, or both. Diseases affecting fibrinogen could be classified to the acquired or inherited disease.

Biomechanical comparison of osteoporotic distal radius fractures fixed by distal locking screws with different length.

PLoS One

November 2015

Department of Anatomy, Southern Medical University, Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Medical Biomechanics, Guangzhou, Guangdong, P.R. China.

Objectives: To evaluate the postoperative stability of osteoporotic distal radius fractures fixed with distal locking screws with different length.

Methods: A comminuted extra-articular dorsally unstable distal radius fracture, treated with volar locking plate system, was created. The 18 specimens were randomized into 3 groups based on distal locked screws with different length: Group A had unicortical screws with 50% length to the dorsal cortex.

Purpose: Tongxinluo, a well-known traditional Chinese medicine complex, has been widely used for the treatment of cerebrovascular diseases in China. The present study was to explore whether treatment with tongxinluo could improve neurological function and alleviate secondary damage in the ipsilateral thalamus after focal cortical infarction in hypertensive rats.

Methods: Tongxinluo was given through oral gavage starting 24 h after distal middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO).

Wampee (Clausena lansium) fruits (CLS), whose pulp can be used to prepare fruit cups, desserts, jam, or jelly, can be eaten along with the peel. In this study, a PC12 cell model was built to observe the protective effect of CLS against H2O2-induced oxidative stress. We found that pretreatment with CLS increased cell viability and inhibited cytotoxicity, caspase-3 activity and DNA condensation.

April 2014

Department of Orthopaedics and Traumatology, Nanfang Hospital, Southern Medical University, 1838 North Guangzhou Avenue, Guangzhou 510515, Guangdong, China.

Recent experiments have explored the impact of Wnt/β-catenin signaling and Substance P (SP) on the regulation of osteogenesis. However, the molecular regulatory mechanisms of SP on the formation of osteoblasts is still unknown. In this study, we investigated the impact of SP on the differentiation of MC3T3-E1 cells.

This study was purposed to investigate the relationship between HLA-A, B allele polymorphisms and red blood cell parameters of patients with --(SEA/αα) subtype of α(0)-thalassemia in Han ethnic population of Wuzhou city. The HLA genetic polymorphisms were determined by polymerase chain reaction-sequence-based typing (PCR-SBT) in 57 patients with --(SEA/αα) subtype of α(0)-thalassemia of Han ethnic population in Wuzhou city, Guangxi province, China. Mean corpuscular volume (MCV), hemoglobin (Hb), mean corpuscular hemoglobin (MCH) and mean corpuscular hemoglobin concentration (MCHC) were detected by automatic blood analyzer system.

Objective: To investigate the value of combined detection of Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) VCA/IgA, EA/IgA, Rta/IgG and EBNA1/IgA in serodiagnosis of nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC).

Methods: Serum samples obtained from 211 untreated patients with NPC and 203 non-NPC ENT patients were examined for the presence of VCA/IgA and EA/IgA by immunoenzymatic assay and for Rta/IgG and EBNA1/IgA by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve was generated to confirm the cutoff values of different antibodies.

Objective: To investigate the influences of varying lingual traction forces on the space-closing speed in a typodont model.

Methods: Forty-two Angle Class I standard typodont models of bimaxillary teeth protrusion were divided into 7 equal groups. Four regions of the model were paired to groups, and in the odd-numbered models, the top left and bottom left regions served as the experimental group and the top right and bottom right regions as the control group; in the even-numbered models, the regions in the model were grouped oppositely.
