Yiyi Fuzi Baijiang Decoction (YFBD), an ancient prescription developed by the ancient Chinese physician, Zhang Zhongjing, has shown remarkable effects in treating ulcerative colitis (UC). However, there are few studies on its mechanism. This study was designed to explore the potential mechanism of YFBD in treating UC.

Osteoblasts primarily mediate bone formation, maintain bone structure, and regulate bone mineralization, which plays an important role in bone remodeling. In the past decades, the roles of cytokines, signaling proteins, and transcription factors in osteoblasts have been widely studied. The evaluation system of quality and the detection method of flavor profile were established.

Environmental exposures interact with genetic factors has been thought to influence susceptibility of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) development. To evaluate the effects of environmental exposures on SLE, we conducted a population-based cohort study across Jiangsu Province, China, to examine the associations between the living environment including air and water pollution, population density, economic income level, etc. and the prevalence and mortality of hospitalized SLE (h-SLE) patients.

Postoperative cognitive dysfunction is a common neurological complication, characterized by impaired learning and memory, that occurs after anesthesia and surgery, especially in elderly patients. The traditional Chinese medicine baicalin is known to have neuroprotective effects. Therefore, we have investigated whether baicalin can improve postoperative cognitive impairment in aged rats after splenectomy.

Creatinine clearance rate predicts prognosis of patients with systemic lupus erythematosus: a large retrospective cohort study.

Objective: To explore the association between the creatinine clearance rate (Ccr) and the prognosis of patients, and compared with estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR).

Methods: We retrospectively collected information of patients with SLE who were first hospitalized between 1999 and 2009 in Jiangsu Province, China, and followed up in 2010 and 2015. Ccr was calculated and dichotomized into normal group (Ccr ≥ 70) and decreasing group (Ccr < 70).

Metformin suppresses Nrf2-mediated chemoresistance in hepatocellular carcinoma cells by increasing glycolysis.

The diabetes drug metformin has recently been shown to possess anti-cancer properties when used with other chemotherapeutic drugs. However, detailed mechanisms by which metformin improves cancer treatment are poorly understood. Here we provide evidence in HepG2 hepatocellular carcinoma cells that metformin sensitizes cisplatin-resistant HepG2 cells (HepG2/DDP) through increasing cellular glycolysis and suppressing Nrf2-dependent transcription.

Anoikis resistance is considered to be an essential prerequisite of tumor metastasis and which is an important mechanism in the metastatic process of gastric cancer (GC). Caveolin-1 (CAV-1), a protein component of caveolae, has been reported to regulate several cancer cell behaviors including anoikis resistance. However, the role of CAV-1 in the acquisition of anoikis resistance in GC cells has never been explored.

Prognosis for Hospitalized Patients with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in China: 5-Year Update of the Jiangsu Cohort.

Objective: To identify early signs associated with poor prognosis in Chinese patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) through a large population-based follow-up study.

Methods: Medical records of > 2,500 SLE patients that first hospitalized between 1999-2009 were collected from 26 centers across Jiangsu province, China, and entered into a database. These patients were followed-up for 5 to 15 years, and those remained contact and had known survival status in 2015 were assessed for the association of factors presented at the initial hospitalization with mortality at two time points (≤1year and > 1year).

Prognostic value of CD133 expression in cancer patients treated with chemoradiotherapy: a meta-analysis.

Many studies evaluated the correlations of CD133 expression with the clinical outcomes in patients treated with chemoradiotherapy (CRT) but yielded controversial results. This meta-analysis was performed to identify the impacts of CD133 expression on the prognosis of cancer patients treated with CRT. Electronic databases updated up to March 2014 were searched to find relevant studies.

[Treatment of leucopenia with pure Astragalus preparation--an analysis of 115 leucopenic cases].

This article reports the effects of pure Astragalus preparation (PAP) in treating 115 cases of leucopenia. These cases were randomized and divided into two groups. Group I (58 cases) was treated by more concentrated PAP (every 10 ml equalled to 15 grams of Astragalus), Group II (57 cases) was treated by less concentrated PAP (every 10 ml equalled to 5 grams of Astragalus).
