Gastrodia elata (GE) is traditionally subjected to steaming, and steaming duration plays a crucially important role in determining GE quality. This study examined the variations in bioactive components during the steaming process and proposed the utilization of electronic eye and Fourier Transform near-infrared (FT-NIR) spectroscopy for quality assessment. The findings revealed that the levels of parishin E parishin B, parishin A, and gastrodin initially rose and subsequently declined, while 4-Hydroxybenzyl alcohol exhibited a rapid decrease followed by stabilization.

Efficient brain drug delivery has been a challenge in the treatment of Alzheimer's Disease and other brain disorders as blood-brain barrier (BBB) impedes most drugs to reach brain. To overcome this obstacle, we developed a novel TGN decorated erythrocyte membrane-coated poly (lactic-co-glycolic acid) nanoparticle (TRNNs). The nanoparticle significantly boosted the penetration (7.

Stimulator of interferon genes (STING): Key therapeutic targets in ischemia/reperfusion injury.

Biomed Pharmacother

November 2023

Jiangsu CM Clinical Innovation Center of Degenerative Bone & Joint Disease, Wuxi TCM Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Wuxi 214071, China; Institute of Translational Medicine, Shanghai University, Shanghai 200444, China. Electronic address:

The Stimulator of Interferon Genes (STING) is predominantly expressed in immune cells, including macrophages, natural killer cells, dendritic cells, and T cells, functioning as a pattern recognition receptor. STING activation upon detecting cytosolic DNA released from damaged cells initiates downstream pathways, leading to the production of inflammatory cytokines such as IFNs, IL-6, and TNF-α. Dysregulated STING activation has been implicated in inflammatory and metabolic diseases.

This paper reviews the application of metabolomics in the early diagnosis of osteoporosis in recent years. The authors searched electronic databases for the keywords "metabolomics", "osteoporosis" and "biomarkers", then analyzed the relationship between functional markers and osteoporosis using categorical summarization. Lipid metabolism, amino acid metabolism and energy metabolism are closely related to osteoporosis development and can become early diagnostic markers of the condition.

Article Synopsis
  • Fibroblast-like synoviocytes (FLSs) play a key role in the inflammation and joint damage associated with rheumatoid arthritis (RA), especially during relapse phases, but their specific regulatory mechanisms remain unclear.
  • Researchers utilized advanced sequencing techniques to analyze synovial tissue samples from RA patients in both relapse and remission states, identifying significant differences in FLS subsets and their activity levels.
  • The study found that the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) pathway, particularly through FGF10, is highly activated in relapse RA, highlighting its potential as a target for new treatments, demonstrated by successful inhibition in a rat model.

Exosome-sheathed ROS-responsive nanogel to improve targeted therapy in perimenopausal depression.

J Nanobiotechnology

August 2023

Jiangsu CM Clinical Innovation Center of Degenerative Bone & Joint Disease, Wuxi TCM Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, 8 Zhongnan West Road, Wuxi, 214071, China.

The development of natural membranes as coatings for nanoparticles to traverse the blood-brain barrier (BBB) presents an effective approach for treating central nervous system (CNS) disorders. In this study, we have designed a nanogel loaded with PACAP and estrogen (E2), sheathed with exosomes and responsive to reactive oxygen species (ROS), denoted as HA NGs@exosomes. The objective of this novel design is to serve as a potent drug carrier for the targeted treatment of perimenopausal depression.

Background: Immune inflammatory responses play an important role in spinal cord injury (SCI); however, the beneficial and detrimental effects remain controversial. Many studies have described the role of neutrophils, macrophages, and T lymphocytes in immune inflammatory responses after SCI, although little is known about the role of B lymphocytes, and immunosuppression can easily occur after SCI.

Methods: A mouse model of SCI was established, and HE staining and Nissl staining were performed to observe the pathological changes.

Department of Traumatology and Orthopedics, Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, China; Laboratory of New Techniques of Restoration & Reconstruction, Institute of Traumatology & Orthopedics, Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Nanjing, China; Jiangsu CM Clinical Innovation Center of Degenerative Bone & Joint Disease, Wuxi TCM Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine, Wuxi, China. Electronic address:

Microvascular endothelial cells are a newly discovered cell type involved in the phagocytosis of myelin debris, which play a key role in the repair of spinal cord injuries. Several methods for the preparation of myelin debris and parameters for constructing a coculture system of microvascular endothelial cells and myelin debris are available, but no systematic studies have yet been conducted, which hinders further exploration of the mechanisms of demyelinating disease repair. Herein, we aimed to develop a standardized method for this process.

Background: The aim of this study is to develop survival analysis models of hospitalized systemic lupus erythematosus (h-SLE) patients in Jiangsu province using data mining techniques to predict patient survival outcomes and survival status.

Methods: In this study, based on 1999-2009 survival data of 2453 hospitalized SLE (h-SLE) patients in Jiangsu Province, we not only used the Cox proportional hazards model to analyze patients' survival factors, but also used neural network models to predict survival outcomes. We used semi-supervised learning to label the censored data and introduced cost-sensitivity to achieve data augmentation, addressing category imbalance and pseudo label credibility.
