Background: miRNAs are known to play a crucial role in cardiac development, and the expression of miRNA is altered in the diseased heart. The aim of this study was to investigate the value of plasma microRNA-499 (miR-499) as a novel biomarker for early diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction (AMI).

Methods: Enrolled in this study were 227 patients with chest pain on presentation to the departments of emergency and cardiology of Wuxi Second People's Hospital between October 2011 and May 2014.

Objectives: The purpose of this study was to compare CT with negative-contrast CT cholangiopancreatography (nCTCP) using subvolume minimum intensity projection (MinIP) versus MRI with MRCP in differentiating noncalculous periampullary obstruction.

Methods: Sixty-four patients with clinically proven noncalculous periampullary obstructions who had undergone both MDCT and MR examinations before operation were reviewed retrospectively. Two reviewers independently interpreted the two image sets (the CT with nCTCP set [CT set] vs.

This study screened microRNAs (miRNAs) that are abnormally expressed in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) tissues to identify PTC and nodular goiter and the degree of PTC malignancy. A total of 51 thyroid tumor tissue specimens paired with adjacent normal thyroid tissues were obtained from the Department of Surgical Oncology of Hangzhou First People's Hospital from June-December 2011. miRNA expression profiles were examined by microarrays and validated by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR).

Key Laboratory of Nuclear Medicine, Ministry of Health, Jiangsu Key Laboratory of Molecular Nuclear Medicine, Jiangsu Institute of Nuclear Medicine, Wuxi, Jiangsu, China.

Albumin fusion technology, the combination of small molecular proteins or peptides with human serum albumin (HSA), is an effective method for improving the medicinal values of natural small molecular proteins or peptides. However, comparative studies between HSA-fusion proteins or peptides and the parent small molecules in biological and molecular mechanisms are less reported. In this study, we examined the binding property of two novel somatostatin-HSA fusion proteins, (SST14)2-HSA and (SST28)2-HSA, to human SSTRs in stably expressing SSTR1-5 HEK 293 cells; observed the regulation of receptor internalization and internalized receptor recycling; and detected the receptors activation of HSA fusion proteins in stably expressing SSTR2- and SSTR3-EGFP cells.

Background: Human leukocyte antigen B27 (HLA-B27)-associated uveitis is the most common reason for non-infectious uveitis. This purpose of the research was to study the expression and significance of T lymphocyte subsets and CD₄⁺ CD₂₅⁺ T regulatory (Treg) cells in peripheral blood of patients with Human leukocyte antigen B27-positive acute anterior uveitis (HLA-B27-positive AAU).

Methods: The concentrations of Th1, Th2, Th17, CD₄⁺ CD₂₅⁺and CD₄⁺ CD₂₅⁺FOXP3⁺ Treg cells in peripheral blood were tested by flow cytometry.

MicroRNA-210 overexpression predicts poorer prognosis in glioma patients.

J Clin Neurosci

May 2014

Department of Neurosurgery, Wuxi Second People's Hospital Affiliated to Nanjing Medical University, 68 Zhongshan Road, Wuxi City 214002, People's Republic of China. Electronic address:

MicroRNA-210 (miR-210) levels are elevated in many tumor types, are frequently associated with hypoxia induction, and are correlated with poor prognosis in many solid tumors. miR-210 regulates cell growth, angiogenesis, invasion, and apoptosis of many human tumors. In this study, we investigated the clinical significance of miR-210 expression in common brain tumors, or human gliomas.

Regeneration of facial nerve defects with xenogeneic acellular nerve grafts in a rat model.

Head Neck

April 2014

Department of Otolaryngology, Wuxi Second People's Hospital, Affiliated with Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi, Jiangsu, China.

Background: Because of ease of harvest and low immunogenicity, xenogeneic acellular nerve graft (XANG) may be an alternative to autologous nerve to repair facial nerve defects.

Methods: Facial nerve defects of Wistar rats were repaired by XANG, and nerve gap regeneration was investigated by electrophysiological test, horseradish peroxidase (HRP) retrograde tracing and histomorphometric analysis, as compared to autograft.

Results: Twenty weeks after the grafting, electrophysiology showed that whisker pad muscles responded to the electrical stimuli given at the site proximal to the transplantation in 2 groups.

Objective: To explore the effects of H(2) relaxin on the expression of exchange protein directly activated by cyclic adenosine monophosphate (Epac) in a murine model of chronic asthma and the roles in the management of airway remodelling.

Methods: Thirty-two BALB/c mice were randomly divided into 4 groups of normal control, asthma, vehicle control and relaxin treatment (n = 8 each). They were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin to establish a chronic asthmatic model.
