Background: Percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is one of the most important diagnostic and therapeutic techniques in cardiology. At present, the traditional prediction models for postoperative events after PCI are ineffective, but machine learning has great potential in identification and prediction of risk. Machine learning can reduce overfitting through regularization techniques, cross-validation and ensemble learning, making the model more accurate in predicting large amounts of complex unknown data.

Article Synopsis
  • Glaucoma is a major cause of irreversible blindness, and there is a need for new drug targets since current treatments are inadequate.
  • The study utilized two-sample Mendelian randomization to identify proteins linked to glaucoma, finding several proteins like ENPP5 and LYPLAL1 that could be potential drug targets.
  • These findings highlight the proteins' roles in glaucoma risk, suggesting that personalized therapy targeting these proteins could improve treatment options beyond just lowering eye pressure.

Objective: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is a common cancer with high aggressiveness and high mortality in women. Recently, a plenty of studies have indicated that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) exert the crucial function in human cancers, TNBC is included. The carcinogenicity of lncRNA long intergenic non-protein coding RNA 1503 (LINC01503) has been confirmed in several cancers, nevertheless, its function in TNBC still unclear.

Background: Lymphoma is the most common secondary cause of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) in adults. Lymphoma-associated HLH (LA-HLH) in the elderly population is not rare, however, little has been reported regarding clinicopathological characteristics, prognostic factors, and outcomes of LA-HLH in the elderly population.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed a multicenter cohort of elderly patients with LA-HLH.

Article Synopsis
  • Elderly patients with lymphoproliferative diseases, particularly those with lymphoma, are at a higher risk of severe COVID-19 infections, with a significant percentage being classified as severe or critical during the Omicron outbreak in China.
  • Factors such as age over 70, multiple comorbidities, aggressive lymphoma, and recent anti-lymphoma treatment were strongly linked to worse outcomes in these patients.
  • Interestingly, continuous treatment with BTK inhibitors appeared to reduce the severity of COVID-19 infections, while prior use of CD20 antibody treatments increased the risk of severe outcomes.

Background: Extra-adrenal myelolipoma is an unusual entity, and endobronchial myelolipoma is rarer, which is often ignored by clinicians, delaying the disease and affecting the prognosis.

Case Presentation: A 71-year-old man with a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus, with recurrent fever, cough, and expectoration for more than 2 weeks experienced relief in cough, phlegm reduction, and glycemic control with anti-inflammatory treatment. Further examination revealed that new growths obstructing all lobar bronchi impaired flexible bronchoscope entry.

  • The study analyzed 167 newly diagnosed patients with t(8;21) acute myeloid leukemia (AML) to identify gene mutations and their clinical implications.
  • Out of the patients, 9% exhibited mutations, which included different types affecting gene function, and these mutations were linked to lower initial white blood cell counts compared to those without mutations.
  • While the mutation group showed a higher complete remission rate and differences in certain clinical characteristics, the overall impact of mutations on therapy outcomes wasn't statistically significant.
