Mol Immunol

December 2024

Wuxi Medical Center, Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi, China; The Affiliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi, China; Wuxi People's Hospital, Wuxi, China. Electronic address:

In the context of liver cirrhosis, the incidence of myocardial inflammation and apoptosis escalates, contributing to the development and progression of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy. The P2X7 receptor, a purinergic receptor linked to inflammatory processes, has been identified in the etiology of a range of autoinflammatory, autoimmune, chronic inflammatory, and metabolic disorders. Despite this, the specific role of the P2X7 receptor in the etiology of cirrhotic cardiomyopathy remains to be elucidated.

November 2024

Department of Ophthalmology, Yixing Eye Hospital, Wuxi School of Medicine, Jiangnan University, Intersection of Hongta Road Kang Ming Road, Yicheng Street, Yixing, 214200, Jiangsu, China.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells plays key roles in the pathogenesis of multiple vitreoretinal diseases, leading to profound and permanent vision loss. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are widespread and functional endogenous RNAs that could regulate gene expression in eukaryotes. The functions of circRNAs in mediating EMT has been reported in several diseases.

LncRNA MYOSLID contributes to PH via targeting BMPR2 signaling in pulmonary artery smooth muscle cell.

Vascul Pharmacol

December 2024

Department of Cardiology, The Eighth Affiliated Hospital, Sun Yat-sen University, Shenzhen, China. Electronic address:

Background/objective: The pathogenesis and vascular remodeling during pulmonary hypertension (PH) have been associated with dysregulation of bone morphogenetic protein receptor type 2 (BMPR2) and transforming growth factor-β (TGF-β) signaling in pulmonary artery smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). Evidence suggests that the human-specific lncRNA MYOSLID is a transcriptional target of the TGF-β/SMAD pathway. In this study, we investigated the involvement of MYOSLID in the pathogenesis of PH.

Calcium oxalate (CaOx) nephrolithiasis constitutes approximately 75% of nephrolithiasis cases, resulting from the supersaturation and deposition of CaOx crystals in renal tissues. Despite their prevalence, precise biomarkers for CaOx nephrolithiasis are lacking. With advances in high-throughput sequencing, we aimed to identify biomarkers of CaOx nephrolithiasis by combining two CaOx nephrolithiasis datasets (GSE73680 and GSE117518).

Background: No specific triglyceride-lowering therapy is recommended in patients with hypertriglyceridemia-associated acute pancreatitis (HTG-AP), primarily because of the lack of quality evidence. This study aimed to describe practice variations in triglyceride-lowering therapies for early HTG-AP patients and assess whether more rapid triglyceride decline is associated with improving organ failure.

Methods: This is a multicentre, prospective cohort study recruiting HTG-AP patients with elevated plasma triglyceride (> 11.

(MP) infections represent a significant component of community-acquired pneumonia, especially in children, invoking a complex neutrophil-mediated immune response, crucial for host defense. This review consolidates current knowledge on the role of neutrophils in MP infection, focusing on their recruitment, migration and activation, as well as the molecular mechanisms underpinning these processes. Significant findings indicate that specific bacterial components, notably CARDS toxin and lipoproteins, intensify neutrophil recruitment via signaling pathways, including the IL-23/IL-17 axis and G-CSF.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how changes in inflammatory and nutritional markers can predict outcomes for patients with advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) after treatment.
  • Researchers analyzed data from 279 NPC patients, using statistical methods to create a prognostic model for progression-free survival (PFS).
  • The model showed a C-index of 0.712, outperforming the traditional TNM staging system (C-index of 0.597), indicating that monitoring dynamic changes in health markers can better predict survival outcomes.

Chinese expert consensus on allergen component resolved diagnosis.

Pediatr Allergy Immunol

November 2024

Department of Clinical Laboratory, Guangzhou Institute of Respiratory Health, State Key Laboratory of Respiratory Disease, National Center for Respiratory Medicine, National Clinical Research Center for Respiratory Disease, Guangzhou Laboratory, The First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University, Guangzhou, China.

Background: Allergen component resolved diagnosis (CRD) is a method for identifying specific protein molecules that cause hypersensitivity. Unlike traditional methods that use crude allergen extracts containing multiple component species, CRD focuses on individual allergen protein molecules for more precise diagnosis. The World Allergy Organization (WAO) recommends CRD as a supplement to clinical history and allergen extract testing, and in some cases, it can replace crude extract tests.

From darkness to light: Targeting CAFs as a new potential strategy for cancer treatment.

Int Immunopharmacol

December 2024

Department of Oncology, The Affliated Wuxi People's Hospital of Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi People's Hospital, Wuxi Medical Center, Nanjing Medical University, Wuxi, China. Electronic address:

Cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs), which are the most frequent stromal cells in the tumor microenvironment (TME), play a key role in the metastasis of tumor cells. Generally speaking, CAFs in cooperation with tumor cells can secrete various cytokines, proteins, growth factors, and metabolites to promote angiogenesis, mediate immune escape of tumor cells, enhance endothelial-to-mesenchymal transition, stimulate extracellular matrix remodeling, and preserve tumor cell stemness. These activities of CAFs provide a favorable exogenous pathway for tumor progression and metastasis, and a microenvironment that allows rapid growth of tumor cells, which always lead to poor prognosis for patients.

  • Pulmonary fibrosis is a severe lung disease that currently has no treatment apart from lung transplantation, and the study investigates the role of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor (GLP-1R) in combating this condition.
  • Researchers used a silica-induced mouse model and in vitro lung fibroblast cultures to assess the effects of the GLP-1R activator liraglutide on lung inflammation and fibrosis.
  • The findings indicate that liraglutide reduces lung fibrosis by inhibiting fibroblast activation and affecting key metabolic pathways, ultimately leading to decreased production of lactate and pro-fibrotic gene expression.
