Introduction: The nutritional status of patients with gastric cancer (GC) after total gastrectomy continues to deteriorate and lasts a long time after discharge, which is an independent risk factor for mortality. Recent guidelines have recommended appropriate nutritional support after discharge for cancer surgery patients with malnutrition or nutritional risk. The evidence on the efficacy of oral immunonutritional supplement (INS) and its effect on long-term disease-free survival (DFS) in patients with GC is limited.

Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the third most prevalent cause of cancer-related death, is a frequent primary liver cancer with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. T-cell depletion (TEX) is a progressive decline in T-cell function due to continuous stimulation of the TCR in the presence of sustained antigen exposure. Numerous studies have shown that TEX plays an essential role in the antitumor immune process and is significantly associated with patient prognosis.

Background: Ovarian cancer (OC) is one of the most common and most malignant gynecological malignancies in gynecology. On the other hand, dysregulation of copper metabolism (CM) is closely associated with tumourigenesis and progression. Here, we investigated the impact of genes associated with copper metabolism (CMRGs) on the prognosis of OC, discovered various CM clusters, and built a risk model to evaluate patient prognosis, immunological features, and therapy response.

Endometrial cancer (EC) is one of the most common malignancies of the female genital tract, and the potential role of immunogenic cell death-related genes (IRGs) in the tumor microenvironment (TME) remains unclear. We describe the variation of IRGs and assess the expression patterns in EC samples from The Cancer Genome Atlas and Gene Expression Omnibus cohorts.

Background And Aims: It is crucial to accurately determine malignant biliary strictures (MBSs) for early curative treatment. This study aimed to develop a real-time interpretable artificial intelligence (AI) system to predict MBSs under digital single-operator cholangioscopy (DSOC).
Methods: A novel interpretable AI system called MBSDeiT was developed consisting of 2 models to identify qualified images and then predict MBSs in real time.

Epithelial cell damage-initiated chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is implicated in regulated cell death (RCD) including ferroptosis triggered by complex gene-environment interactions. Our data showed that iron overload and ferroptosis are associated with COPD progression in COPD patients and in experimental COPD. Furthermore, we found that, in lung tissues of COPD patients, circSAV1 was associated with COPD progression by circRNA-seq screening.

Background: Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common cancer of the central nervous system, while Parkinson's disease (PD) is a degenerative neurological condition frequently affecting the elderly. Neurotrophic factors are key factors associated with the progression of degenerative neuropathies and gliomas.
Methods: The 2601 neurotrophic factor-related genes (NFRGs) available in the Genecards portal were analyzed and 12 NFRGs with potential roles in the pathogenesis of Parkinson's disease and the prognosis of GBM were identified.

Background: This study sought to assess the relationship between suppressor of cytokine signaling 3 (SOCS3) expression, SOCS3 promoter methylation status, and platinum-based chemotherapy responses in advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) patients.
Methods: A total of 400 advanced NSCLC patients with inoperable disease were enrolled in this study. All the patients underwent platinum-based chemotherapy treatment, and the clinical and prognostic outcomes of these patients were analyzed.

Dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) is characterized by the left ventricular dilatation and impaired myocardial systolic dysfunction with high mortality and morbidity. However, the underlying mechanisms remain elusive. We first identified the differentially expressed genes (DEGs) between the DCM and control group using two expression profiles from GSE3585 and GSE84796.

Background: Hypoxia is a risk factor of pulmonary hypertension (PH) and may induce pulmonary artery endothelial cells (PAECs) injury and inflammation. Pyroptosis is a form of cell death through maturation and secretion of inflammatory mediators. However, the mechanistic association of pyroptosis, PAECs injury, and inflammation remain unknown.

Diabetes is a significant risk factor for arrhythmias. However, the pathophysiology of diabetes-related arrhythmias still needs to be elucidated, presumably associated with structural and electrical remodeling. There is growing evidence that inflammation and arrhythmias are intimately associated, which has spurred significant interest in exploring the regulatory links in diabetes.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is one of the most common arrhythmias in medical practice. Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the independent risk factors for atrial fibrillation. The increased morbility of atrial fibrillation in diabetes mellitus is related to both structural and electrical remodeling of atrium.

Background: Uveal melanoma (UVM) is the most common primary intraocular malignancy in adults and is highly metastatic, resulting in a poor patient prognosis. Sphingolipid metabolism plays an important role in tumor development, diagnosis, and prognosis. This study aimed to establish a reliable signature based on sphingolipid metabolism genes (SMGs), thus providing a new perspective for assessing immunotherapy response and prognosis in patients with UVM.

The world has been affected socioeconomically for the last two years due to the emergence of different variants of the COVID-19 virus. Vaccination is the major and most efficient way to prevent the widening of this pandemic. Those who are having comorbidities are more vulnerable to serious infections due to their immunocompromised state.

The current organ allocation rules prioritize elderly and urgent patients on the lung transplantation (LT) waiting list. A steady increase in the threshold at which age is taken into consideration for LT has been observed. This retrospective cohort study recruited 166 lung transplant recipients aged ≽ 65 years between January 2016 and October 2020 in the largest LT center in China.

Background: Elderly patients undergoing cardiac operation often suffer various metabolic comorbidities, such as diabetes mellitus (DM) and obesity. The metabolic disorders in these individuals are widely considered to be possible predisposing factors for unfavourable prognosis. This retrospective study was aimed to determine the association of metabolic diseases with the mortality of elderly patients after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) and to identify the protective or risk factors related to their short- and long-term survival.
