Low-dose CT (LDCT) is increasingly recognized as the preferred method for detecting pulmonary nodules. However, distinguishing whether a nodule is benign or malignant often necessitates repeated scans or invasive tissue sampling procedures. Therefore, there is a pressing need for non-invasive techniques to minimize unnecessary interventions.

Department of Spine Surgery and Orthopaedics, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, China; Key Laboratory of Organ Injury, Aging and Regenerative Medicine of Hunan Province, China; Hunan Engineering Research Center of Sports and Health, Changsha, China; National Clinical Research Center for Geriatric Disorders, Xiangya Hospital, Central South University, Changsha, China. Electronic address:

Targeted delivery of small extracellular vesicles (sEVs) with low immunogenicity and fewer undesirable side effects are needed for spinal cord injury (SCI) therapy. Here, we show that RGD (Arg-Gly-Asp) peptide-decorated CD163 macrophage-derived sEVs can deliver TGF-β to the neovascular endothelial cells of the injured site and improve neurological function after SCI. CD163 macrophages are M2 macrophages that express TGF-β and are reported to promote angiogenesis and vascular stabilization in various diseases.

Macrophages polarized to the M2 subtype after spinal cord injury (SCI) are beneficial for promoting neurological recovery. The crosstalk between endothelial cells (ECs) and macrophages is crucial for the imbalance between proinflammatory and pro-resolving responses caused by macrophage heterogeneity; however, this crosstalk is strengthened post-SCI, leading to inflammatory cascades and second damage. As a powerful means to regulate gene expression, epigenetic regulation of the interaction between immune cells and ECs in SCI is still largely unknown.

Glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored micronemal antigen (GAMA) interacts with the band 3 receptor to promote erythrocyte invasion by malaria parasites.

J Biol Chem

April 2022

Laboratory of Pathogen Infection and Immunity, Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Wuxi School of Medicine, Jiangnan University, Wuxi, Jiangsu, China. Electronic address:

Glycosylphosphatidylinositol-anchored micronemal antigen (GAMA) is an erythrocyte binding protein known to be involved in malarial parasite invasion. Although anti-GAMA antibodies have been shown to block GAMA attachment to the erythrocyte surface and subsequently inhibit parasite invasion, little is known about the molecular mechanisms by which GAMA promotes the invasion process. In this study, LC-MS analysis was performed on the erythrocyte membrane to identify the specific receptor that interacts with GAMA.
