Objective: This study aimed to explore the function and mechanism of Cytochrome P450 2J2 (CYP2J2) epoxygenase and epoxyeicosatrienoic acids (EETs) in the malignant development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

Method: The expressional levels of EETs and CYP2J2 in HCC tissues and cell lines were quantified by ELISA, western blot and RT-qPCR, respectively. The effects of EET and CYP2J2 on HCC development were analyzed by CCK-8 assays, flow cytometry analysis, colony formation and transwell assays.

Phospholipid scramblase 1 (PLSCR1) serves a function in the pathogenesis and progression of various types of cancer. However, the role of PLSCR1 in human primary liver cancer remains unknown. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the expression of PLSCR1 in primary liver cancer and analyse the clinical significance.

In human macrophages and monocytes, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) induces nuclear factor kappa B (NFκB) activation and pro-inflammatory cytokines production. We tested the possible involvement of Ku70 and Ku80 in the process. In THP-1 macrophages and primary human peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs), shRNA-induced double knockdown of Ku70 and Ku80 potently inhibited LPS-induced production of pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-1β and IL-6).

Paricalcitol vs. cinacalcet for secondary hyperparathyroidism in chronic kidney disease: A meta-analysis.

Paricalcitol and cinacalcet have been recommended to reduce parathyroid hormone (PTH) levels for patients with secondary hyperparathyroidism (SHPT) and chronic kidney disease (CKD), and they are able to reduce the risk of hypercalcemia and hyperphosphatemia. However, to date, it has remained uncertain which is the better drug. The aim of the present meta-analysis was to evaluate the effects on PTH, calcium and phosphorus metabolism between the two drugs.

High serum OX40 ligand correlates with severity and mortality in patients with massive cerebral infarction.

OX40 ligand (OX40L) is a member of tumor necrosis factors (TNF)/TNFR superfamily and is mainly expressed in activated T cells and participates in various inflammatory reactions. However, it remains unclear about the role of serum OX40L as a biomarker of cerebral infarction (CI). This study aimed to explore the possibility of serum OX40L as a meaningful predictor in mortality of CI.

Giant primitive neuroectodermal pelvic tumour: a case report and literature review.

Primitive neuroectodermal tumours (PNETs) are rare malignant small round cell tumours. Notably, despite widespread reports of PNET in multiple parts of the body, it is extremely rare in the pelvis. Here, a rare case of giant PNET of the pelvis, that was treated with surgical intervention comprising hemipelvectomy and amputation, is reported.

Extreme lateral interbody fusion and percutaneous pedicle screw fixation in the minimally invasive treatment of thoracic tuberculosis.

Objective: As a minimally invasive intervertebral fusion technique popularized in recent years, extreme lateral interbody fusion (XLIF) has various advantages. In this study, we describe the application and efficacy of XLIF for the treatment of thoracic tuberculosis (TB), as this may be an emerging treatment option for thoracic TB in the future.

Objective: To evaluate the efficiency and safety of transurethral holmium laser enucleation of the prostate (HoLEP) in the treatment of BPH in patients with a history of transrectal prostate biopsy (TRPB).

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the clinical data on 102 cases of BPH treated by HoLEP in our hospital between November 2015 and May 2017, of which 42 had received TRPB prior to HoLEP (the PB group) but not the other 60 (the non-TRPB ［NPB］ group). We compared the preoperative, perioperative and postoperative follow-up data between the two groups of patients.

Efficacy evaluation of three-dimensional printing assisted osteotomy guide plate in accurate osteotomy of adolescent cubitus varus deformity.

Background: This present study is aimed to retrospectively assess the efficacy of three-dimensional (3D) printing assisted osteotomy guide plate in accurate osteotomy of adolescent cubitus varus deformity.

Material And Methods: Twenty-five patients (15 males and 10 females) with the cubitus varus deformity from June 2014 to December 2017 were included in this study and were enrolled into the conventional group (n = 11) and 3D printing group (n = 14) according to the different surgical approaches. The operation time, intraoperative blood loss, osteotomy degrees, osteotomy end union time, and postoperative complications between the two groups were observed and recorded.

Diagnostic value of cytology, thyroglobulin, and combination of them in fine-needle aspiration of metastatic lymph nodes in patients with differentiated thyroid cancer: A systematic review and network meta-analysis.

Background: To investigate the diagnostic performance of cytology (fine-needle aspiration cytology [FNAC]), thyroglobulin (fine-needle aspiration thyroglobulin [FNA-Tg]), and combination of them in the washout of fine-needle aspiration for those patients who have suspicious metastatic lymph nodes of differentiated thyroid cancer.

Methods: Databases, including PubMed, EMbase, Web of Science and Cochrane Library were searched up to June 2019. The quality assessment of diagnostic accuracy scale-2 was used to conduct quality assessments, and publication bias was evaluated using the Deeks funnel plot.

Clinicopathologic and prognostic significance of tumor-associated macrophages in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma: A meta-analysis.

Purpose: Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) deserve more focus because of its clinicopathologic and prognostic roles in solid tumors. However, the prognostic value of TAMs in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is still controversial. We performed a meta-analysis to resolve the issue.

The present study aimed to compare the predictive abilities of preoperative systemic inflammatory/immune cell ratios in gastric cancer (GC) following curative R0 resection, and to screen the optimal parameter incorporated into nomograms to predict the postoperative overall survival (OS) and recurrence-free survival (RFS). A total of 679 patients with GC were included in the study, divided into a primary cohort (300 cases), an internal validation cohort (278 cases), and an external validation cohort (101 cases). In the primary cohort, the prognostic abilities of all systemic inflammatory/immune cell accounts or ratios were compared by receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analysis.

Ipsilateral radial nerve, median nerve, and ulnar nerve injury caused by crush syndrome due to alcohol intoxication: A case report.

Rationale: Autologous peripheral nerve injury caused by crush syndrome due to alcohol intoxication is relatively rare, and to our knowledge, the compression of 3 upper limb nerves at the same time has not been reported previously. If a compressive peripheral nerve injury is not treated in a timely manner, it is difficult to recover neurological function, and the prognosis is poor.

Patient Concerns: Here, we present a case of a 50-year-old man with ipsilateral radial nerve, median nerve, and ulnar nerve injuries caused by autogenous compression after drunkenness.

Pancreatic cancer is a deadly disease, the deadliest of all the solid tumors; the 5-year survival rate of patients with this disease is ~8%. Previously, high-throughput sequencing has led to the discovery of novel small non-coding RNAs, also known as transfer RNA-derived fragments (tRFs). Studies have suggested that tRFs may be novel biomarkers for certain diseases.

Progress of the Anterior Transpedicular Screw in Lower Cervical Spine: A Review.

The anterior transpedicular screws (ATPS) fixation is a valuable discovery in the field of lower cervical spine (LCS) reconstruction, as it has the advantages of both anterior and posterior approaches. In recent years, with in-depth research on ATPS fixation related to anatomy, biomechanical tests, and clinical applications, its firm stability and excellent biomechanical properties have been recognized by more and more surgeons. Although ATPS fixation has been gradually applied in clinic settings under the promotion of emerging distinctive instruments, its long-term efficacy still needs to be further clarified due to the lack of large sample size studies and long-term follow-up.

Factors Associated with Failed Conservative Management in Symptomatic Isolated Mesenteric Artery Dissection.

Objective: The aim of this study was to assess factors associated with conservative management failure in patients with symptomatic isolated mesenteric artery dissection.

Methods: Patients with symptomatic isolated mesenteric artery dissection who underwent conservative therapy as first line treatment between February 2010 and May 2018 were included in this retrospective study. Conservative management failure was defined as the persistence or aggravation of symptoms and signs, increasing aneurysmal dilation, or new appearance of a dissecting aneurysm after conservative management.

Background: NIMA related kinase 2 (NEK2) is closely related to mitosis, and it is currently considered to be over-expressed frequently in many poorly prognostic cancers. However, the effect of the up-regulated NEK2 on cellular signaling in tumors, such as gastric cancer (GC), is con-fusing.

Aim: To determine the role of the up-regulation of NEK2 in GC.

Prognostic value of preoperative albumin to globulin ratio in elderly patients with rectal cancer.

To identify the value of predictors of poor prognosis of elderly patients with rectal cancer who underwent surgery, we investigated the relations between albumin to globulin ratio (AGR) and clinicopathological findings.We conducted a retrospective cohort study of clinicopathological characteristics (general status, pathological features of tumors, preoperative laboratory data, disease free, and overall survival) for elderly patients with stage I-III rectal cancer. The AGR is calculated as albumin/(total protein - albumin).

Proximal versus total gastrectomy for proximal early gastric cancer: A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Recently, the incidence of proximal early gastric cancer (EGC) has been rising rapidly. Prevalent surgical methods are proximal gastrectomy (PG) and total gastrectomy (TG); however, which method is superior remains controversial. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of original articles to compare the short- and long-term clinical outcomes of PG with TG for proximal EGC.

Background: Cervical tuberculosis accounts for only 4.2%-12% of the total incidence of spinal tuberculosis cases. Although antituberculosis drugs have been the mainstay treatment of cervical tuberculosis, they have been ineffective against the symptoms of existing spinal deformities and spinal cord compression, which often require surgical intervention.

Secreted frizzled-related protein 5 suppresses aggressive phenotype and reverses docetaxel resistance in prostate cancer.

Secreted frizzled-related protein 5 (SFRP5) has been reported to be downregulated in prostate cancer. However, its biological role in this malignancy has not been clarified yet. In the present study, we performed SFRP5 overexpression experiments to determine its function in prostate cancer cell growth, invasion, tumorigenesis, and docetaxel sensitivity.

Primary plasmablastic plasmacytoma in the stomach of an immunocompetent adult: A case report.
