The effects of ART on the dynamics of lipid profiles in Chinese Han HIV-infected patients: comparison between NRTI/NNRTI and NRTI/INSTI.

Introduction: This article aimed to compare the prevalence of dyslipidemia and determine risk factors associated with lipid levels in a cohort of HIV-infected patients receiving two different antiretroviral therapy (ART) regimens, nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor/non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NRTI/NNRTI) and nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor/integrase strand transfer inhibitor (NRTI/INSTI).

Methods: This longitudinal study analyzed 633 HIV-infected patients with complete blood lipid profile records for at least 1 year at the ART clinic of Zhongnan Hospital of Wuhan University, China, from June 2018 to March 2021. Demographic and clinical data, including age, gender, body weight, height, current/former/non-smoker, current drinker, diabetes mellitus, hypertension, were extracted from electronic medical records.

Nurses' perceptions of barriers and supportive behaviors in end-of-life care in the intensive care unit: a cross-sectional study.

Background And Aim: Patient deaths are common in the intensive care unit, and a nurse's perception of barriers to and supportive behaviors in end-of-life care varies widely depending upon their cultural background. The aim of this study was to describe the perceptions of intensive care nurses regarding barriers to and supportive behaviors in providing end-of-life care in a Chinese cultural context.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among intensive care nurses in 20 intensive care units in 11 general hospitals in central and eastern China.

Impact of the Pilot Volume-Based Drug Purchasing Policy in China: Interrupted Time-Series Analysis with Controls.

Centralizing procurement for prescription drugs has the potential to reduce drug spending by creating economies of scale and by improving purchasing power. In March 2019, the Chinese government launched a volume-based purchasing (VBP) pilot program using a competitive bidding process to purchase accredited generic drugs for which branded drug substitutes were available. We performed an interrupted time-series design to estimate the change in monthly drug purchase quantity and spending comparing 14 months before and 7 months after the VBP pilot.

Here, we uncover the crucial role of cGAS in host immunity based on a Pseudomonas aeruginosa pulmonary infection model. cGAS mice showed more heavy bacterial burdens and serious lung injury accompanied with exorbitant proinflammatory cytokines than wild-type mice.

Nurses' experiences of providing care to patients with COVID-19 in the ICU in Wuhan: a descriptive phenomenological research.

Lung interstitial macrophages (IMs) can be polarized towards an alternative activation phenotype in ovalbumin (OVA)-induced asthmatic mice. However, the role of alternative activation of lung IMs in Th2 cell responses in the asthmatic murine is still unclear. Here, we leverage an anti-F4/80 treatment which has been shown to selectively deplete IMs in mice and investigate how this treatment modulates Th2 cell responses in lung and whether the modulation is dependent on lung IMs in murine models of asthma.

The effects of narrative exposure therapy on COVID-19 patients with post-traumatic stress symptoms: A randomized controlled trial.

Background: Positive associations between ambient PM and cardiorespiratory disease have been well demonstrated during the past decade. However, few studies have examined the adverse effects of PM based on an entire population of a megalopolis. In addition, most studies in China have used averaged data, which results in variations between monitoring and personal exposure values, creating an inherent and unavoidable type of measurement error.

Three learning modalities' impact on clinical judgment and perceptions in newly graduated registered nurses: A quasi-experimental study.

Newly graduated registered nurses face numerous challenges stemming from high patient workload, complicated interpersonal relationships, and a lack of nursing competence, which can lead to transitional shocks. Clinical judgment and confidence are well-known keys to successful role transitions for these nurses. Simulation training is proposed as a new modality for enhancing comprehensive clinical competence of nurses, but current evidence on the impact of different simulations on nurses' clinical judgment and confidence are still limited or inconsistent.

The End-of-Life Professional Caregiver Survey (EPCS) is a psychometrically reliable self-reporting scale to measure multidisciplinary professionals' palliative and hospice care educational needs.

Calcium-responsive kinase LadS modulates type I-F CRISPR-Cas adaptive immunity.

The CRISPR-Cas systems are recently discovered adaptive immune strategies in bacteria and archaea against foreign genetic elements. Although gene-editing enabled by CRISPR-Cas9 has shown great promise for clinical application, little is known about potential mechanisms of CRISPR-Cas systems for regulating their own gene expression and altering the virulence within bacteria. Here, Gram-negative bacterium Pseudomonas aeruginosa PA14 that contains a Type I-F CRISPR-Cas system was used to study the mechanism endogenous CRISPR-Cas of regulation mechanism.

Developing an empathy educational model (EEM) for undergraduate nursing students: A Delphi Technique.

Despite the growing benefits of empathy education for medical students, there is still a lack of formal empathy courses in the Chinese context. To develop an empathy educational model for undergraduate nursing students, the Delphi technique was used in this study. Experts were selected from different regions of China and invited to participate in the three rounds of consultation, via email.

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is a severe Gram-negative opportunistic bacterium that causes a spectrum of organ system diseases, particularly in immunocompromised patients. This bacterium has been shown to induce unfolded protein response (UPR) during mammalian infection. Annexin A2 (AnxA2) is a multicompartmental protein relating to a number of cellular processes; however, it remains unknown whether AnxA2 coordinates a UPR pathway under bacterial infection conditions.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic is putting healthcare workers across the world in an unprecedented situation. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the levels of depression, anxiety, and stress among Hubei pediatric nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and to analyze the potential factors associated with them.

Development and evaluation of a serological test for diagnosis of COVID-19 with selected recombinant spike proteins.

Serological test is a valuable diagnostic tool for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). However, considerable improvements to these tests are needed, especially in the detection sensitivity. In this study, six recombinant nucleocapsid and spike proteins of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) were prepared and evaluated, including three prokaryotic expression nucleocapsid proteins (rN, rN1, rN2) and three eukaryotic expression spike proteins (rS1, rS-RBD, rS-RBD-mFc).

This paper summarizes the changes in the policy associated with schistosmiasis control in the new era, analyzes the background of Health China Strategy and its association with the current schistosomiasis control program in China, describes several schistosomiasis control models and proposes some suggestions responding to the challenges in current schistosomiasis control program of China, so as to provide insights into the development of the effective control strategy for schistosomiasis.

Small-Molecule Inhibitor of 8-Oxoguanine DNA Glycosylase 1 Regulates Inflammatory Responses during Infection.

The DNA repair enzyme 8-oxoguanine DNA glycosylase 1 (OGG1), which excises 8-oxo-7,8-dihydroguanine lesions induced in DNA by reactive oxygen species, has been linked to the pathogenesis of lung diseases associated with bacterial infections. A recently developed small molecule, SU0268, has demonstrated selective inhibition of OGG1 activity; however, its role in attenuating inflammatory responses has not been tested. In this study, we report that SU0268 has a favorable effect on bacterial infection both in mouse alveolar macrophages (MH-S cells) and in C57BL/6 wild-type mice by suppressing inflammatory responses, particularly promoting type I IFN responses.

Experience of living with pain among older adults with arthritis: A systematic review and meta-synthesis.

Background: Millions of people older than 60 years are affected by arthritis. Unrelieved chronic pain of arthritis is associated with increased healthcare needs and decreased quality of life in older adults. Understanding older adults' perceptions and experiences of living with arthritis pain can benefit healthcare experts in designing and implementing clinical, education, and research programs to better care for this population.
