Objective: To investigate the risk factors for peritonitis in peritoneal dialysis patients and to develop and validate a predictive model.

Methods: A total of 219 patients undergoing continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) who had their first peritoneal dialysis catheter placement and regular follow-up at Wuhan No. 1 Hospital between April 2020 and August 2023 were included in this study.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study focuses on improving the identification of IDH mutations in glioma patients, which is crucial for making therapeutic decisions.
  • - It introduces a new method combining MRI scans analyzed by a Transformer neural network with a CRISPR-based gene detection system, achieving high accuracy rates for IDH mutation detection.
  • - This integrated approach not only enhances diagnostic precision but also helps guide treatment strategies such as biopsies and radiation therapy to improve outcomes for patients with glioma.

Bladder cancer(BC) is one of the most prevalent cancers in the urinary tract, with high recurrence and fatality rates. Research indicates that go-ichi-ni-san complex subunit 1 (GINS1) crucially influences cancer progression by regulating DNA replication through cell cycle modulation. Thus, suppressing the active proliferation of cells in tumor tissues may require silencing GINS1.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of single and multiple fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) tests for upper urinary tract cancer (UTUC), we analyzed the diagnostic efficacy of FISH in patients with UTUC and the difference between it and the Tumor Node Metastasis (TNM) stage and grade of the tumor.

Materials And Methods: Patients treated for UTUC at our institution between 2011 and 2021 who had not been previously diagnosed with UTUC were included. Patients were divided into single, two, and multiple (three times or four times) FISH groups based on the number of FISH tests performed on different samples from the same patient, and the diagnostic efficiency of single, two, and multiple FISH tests for muscle-invasive tumors and highgrade tumors were assessed.

Article Synopsis
  • IgA nephropathy, a common kidney condition, may benefit from treatment with calcineurin inhibitors (CNI) combined with steroids, though CNIs are not as widely studied.
  • A systematic review and meta-analysis of 16 randomized clinical trials involving 998 patients indicated that this combination treatment has a higher likelihood of achieving complete remission and significantly reduces proteinuria compared to steroid-only treatment.
  • However, the combined treatment did not show superior effects on serum creatinine levels or estimated glomerular filtration rate, suggesting some limitations in its overall effectiveness.

SCL/TAL1 interrupting locus (STIL) regulates centriole replication and causes chromosome instability, which is closely related to malignant tumors. The purpose of our study was to investigate the role of STIL in bladder cancer (BC) tumorigenesis for the first time. The public database indicated that STIL is highly expressed and correlated with the cell cycle in BC.

This study aimed to explore the application of Yb(OH)CO3 nanoparticles in the prediction model of computed tomography (CT) contrast lung biopsy pneumothorax (LBP) by synthesizing a new type of Yb(OH)CO3 nanoparticles, which provides a basis for clinical application. Yb(OH)CO3 nanoparticles were prepared by a homogeneous precipitation process based on urea, and the samples were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Methyl thiazolyl tetrazolium (MTT) assay was adopted in vitro cytotoxicity test, optical density (OD) value was measured with a microplate reader at a wavelength of 570 nm, the cell viability was analyzed, and the cytomorphological changes were observed with an optical microscope.

The non-SMC condensin I complex subunit G (NCAPG) is a subunit of the condensin complex, many studies have shown that NCAPG is aberrantly expressed in different tumors and closely associated with poor prognosis, but its role in bladder cancer is unclear. In this paper, we found that NCAPG expression was upregulated in bladder cancer in tumor-related databases, and further verified the expression of NCAPG in bladder cancer tissues as well as bladder cancer cell lines by tissue microarray, qPCR, and WB. Next, we explored the changes in bladder cancer cell proliferation as well as migration after NCAPG knockdown by cell growth curve, colony formation, soft agar assay, and xenograft model.

Background: High fibroblast growth factor-23 levels increase cardiovascular disease risk in chronic kidney disease subjects. The effects of dietary phosphate levels on fibroblast growth factor-23 in chronic kidney disease subjects have conflicting results. This meta-analysis was performed to evaluate this relationship.

Background & Objective: The effects of green coffee bean extract (GCBE) supplementation on inflammatory biomarkers have been widely spread. The purpose of this article was to assess the impact of GCBE supplementation on C-reactive protein (CRP) levels.

Methods: The literature search was performed in four databases (Scopus, PubMed, the Cochrane Library, and Google Scholar) to identify studies that examined the influence of GCBE supplementation on CRP levels up to August 2019.

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the main type of lung cancer, with a low 5-year survival rate because of the absence of effective clinical biomarkers for early diagnosis. Based on the immunosurveillance theory, we proposed that changes in the immune system are more pronounced than tumour-associated antigens during the early stage of cancer. Therefore, a new strategy was designed to screen early diagnostic biomarkers from peripheral leukocytes in early-stage NSCLCs with transcriptome sequencing.

Edible mushrooms are well-known for their health and nutritional benefits, however, undesirable effects have been reported in animals fed with these types of edible mushrooms (Nieminen et al., 2009). For health and safety reason, it is necessary to evaluate the toxicity of edible mushrooms, especially those that have been artificially cultured in recent decades.
