Article Synopsis
  • Effective COVID-19 containment measures, including physical distancing and hygiene practices, remain crucial despite the availability of vaccines, with varying compliance levels across Asian countries influenced by awareness and motivation in the early pandemic phase.
  • The study aimed to analyze how knowledge and attitudes correlate with compliance to these measures in 14 regions through electronic surveys from May to June 2020.
  • Results showed that Southeast Asian participants were more likely to commit to physical distancing, with independent factors for high compliance including safe distancing practices, mask-wearing, preferred news sources, and psychological well-being.

Importance: Knowledge and attitude influence compliance and individuals' practices. The risk and protective factors associated with high compliance to these preventive measures are critical to enhancing pandemic preparedness.

Objective: This survey aims to assess differences in mental health, knowledge, attitudes, and practices (KAP) of preventive measures for COVID-19 amongst healthcare professionals (HCP) and non-healthcare professionals.

Background And Aim: Gastrointestinal manifestations of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic may mimic irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), and social distancing measures may affect IBS patients negatively. We aimed to study the impact of COVID-19 on respondents with self-reported IBS.

Methods: We conducted an anonymized survey from May to June 2020 in 33 countries.

Association between grip strength and bone mineral density in general US population of NHANES 2013-2014.

Arch Osteoporos

March 2020

Department of Thoracic Surgery, The Third Affiliated Hospital of Sun Yat-sen University, 600 Tianhe Street, Guangzhou, Guangdong, People's Republic of China, 510000.

Unlabelled: Association between strength of nonadjacent muscles and bone mineral density is unclear. We used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey to convince the effect of grip strength on femoral neck and lumbar spine mineral density in the general US population. This research can broaden the area of muscle-bone interaction.

Background: Gastric cancer is the third most lethal malignancy worldwide. A novel deep convolution neural network (DCNN) to perform visual tasks has been recently developed. The aim of this study was to build a system using the DCNN to detect early gastric cancer (EGC) without blind spots during esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD).

rhTPO and rhIL-11 are both recommended for the prophylactic treatment of chemotherapy-induced thrombocytopenia (CIT). However, there has been no head to head comparative study on the prophylactic administration of rhTPO and rhIL-11 to alleviate CIT in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this open-label prospective multi-center phase II clinical trial, 108 NSCLC patients who experienced severe CIT after prior chemotherapy were randomized into study and control arms.

Background: Functional dyspepsia (FD) is a common upper gastrointestinal disorder worldwide, but the current treatments for FD are still unsatisfactory. The aims of this study were to investigate the efficacy and safety of Qi-Zhi-Wei-Tong granules in patients with postprandial distress syndrome (PDS)-predominant FD.

Methods: The study was conducted as a randomized, double-blinded, multicenter, placebo-controlled design in 197 patients with PDS.

A high matrix metalloproteinase-9/tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinase-1 (MMP9/TIMP1) ratio is associated with poor ulcer healing, yet how the ratio of MMP9/TIMP1 changes in diabetic foot ulcers (DFUs) with infection and how these changes may affect wound healing remain unclear. Therefore, the objective of this investigation was to explore relationships among the MMP9/TIMP1 ratio, infection, and DFUs. After being informed of the details of this study, 32 patients signed consent forms.

Patients with reduced cardiac function are thought to have a higher risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE). Additionally, they are vulnerable to complications of pulmonary embolism (PE) as well as right heart failure (HF), which in return is supposed to increase the rate of mortality. Studies focusing on VTE in heart failure patients were rare in Asian countries before the 21st century.

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Cancer Center, Sun Yat-Sen University, Guangzhou, People's Republic of China.

Background: The β1,3-N-acetylglucosaminyltransferase-3 gene (B3GNT3) encodes a member of the B3GNT family that functions as the backbone structure of dimeric sialyl-Lewis A and is involved in L-selectin ligand biosynthesis, lymphocyte homing and lymphocyte trafficking. B3GNT3 has been implicated as an important element in the development of certain cancers. However, the characteristics of B3GNT3 in the development and progression of cancer remain largely unknown.

State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China, Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Department of Gynecologic Oncology, Cancer Center, Sun Yat-Sen University, No. 651, Dongfeng Road East, Guangzhou, 510060, People's Republic of China.

Centrosomal protein 55 (CEP55) is a cell cycle regulator implicated in development of certain cancers. However, characteristics of CEP55 expression and its clinical/prognostic significance are unclear in human epithelial ovarian carcinoma (EOC). Therefore, we investigated the expression and clinicopathological significance of CEP55 in patients with EOC and its role in regulating invasion and metastasis of ovarian cell lines.

Department of Gynecologic Oncology; State Key Laboratory of Oncology in South China; Collaborative Innovation Center for Cancer Medicine, Cancer Center, Sun Yat-Sen University, No. 651, Dongfeng Road East, Guangzhou, 510060, People's Republic of China.

C14ORF166 (chromosome 14 open reading frame 166) is a transcriptional repressor related to the regulation of centrosome architecture. However, the role of C14ORF166 in the development and progression of cancer remains largely unknown. The aim of this study was to investigate the expression and clinicopathological significance of C14ORF166 in cervical cancer.
