There is growing evidence that long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are significant contributors to the epigenetic mechanisms implicated in the emergence, progression and metastasis of the colorectal cancer (CRC), but many remain underexplored. A novel lncRNA LOC105369504, was identified to be a potential functional lncRNA by microarray analysis. In CRC, the expression of LOC105369504 was markedly decreased and resulted in distinct variations in proliferation, invasion, migration and epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) in vivo and in vitro.

Postoperative tracheostomy (POT) is an important indicator of critical illness, associated with poorer prognoses and increased medical burdens. However, studies on POTs after heart valve surgery (HVS) have not been reported. The objectives of this study were first to identify the risk factors and develop a risk prediction model for POTs after HVS, and second to clarify the relationship between POTs and clinical outcomes.

Enhancing research indicatedthat circular RNA (circRNA) acted a critical part in cholangiocarcinoma (CHOL) development. This research aims to discover the role of circRNA SWI/SNF-related, matrix-associated, actin-dependent regulator of chromatin, subfamily a, member 5 (SMARCA5) in CHOL bio-progression, which has been proved to be downregulated in CHOL tissues. In this study, quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction was used to reveal the level and linkage of circRNA SMARCA5, miRNA-95-3p and TNF receptor-associated factor 3 gene (TRAF3) in CHOL tissues and cancer cells.

This study aimed to observe the effects of puerarin on glycolysis and cisplatin sensitivity in oral squamous cell carcinoma (oSCC) cells and to explore the underlying mechanisms. CAL27 cells over- or under-expressing FBXW7 were treated with cisplatin or puerarin, and the levels of proteins involved in glycolysis as well as the activity of the respective enzymes were assessed. Glucose uptake and lactate production were also evaluated, and the IC50 value of cisplatin in CAL27 cells was determined.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is an unpredictable autoimmune disease where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks healthy tissues in many parts of the body. Chronic pain is one of the most frequently reported symptoms among SLE patients. We previously reported that MRL lupus prone (MRL/lpr) mice develop hypersensitivity to mechanical and heat stimulation.

Objective: Spinal cord ischemia-reperfusion injury (SCIRI) can cause a pathological state of irreversible delayed death of neurons in the spinal cord tissue and a range of complications, such as spinal cord dysfunction and motor function impairment. This study aimed to determine whether the long-stranded non-coding ribonucleic acid (lncRNA), myocardial infarction-associated transcript (MIAT), could upregulate neuronal growth regulator 1 (NEGR1) by competing for miR-150-5p as a competitive endogenous RNA in a rat SCIRI model.

Methods: The MIAT knockdown vector or the corresponding blank vector was injected into the spinal cord of healthy sprague Dawley (SD) rats.

The poor outcome of advanced ovarian cancer under conventional therapy necessitates new strategies to improve therapeutic efficacy. β-glucosidase (encoded by GBA) is a lysosomal enzyme and is involved in sphingolipids metabolism. Recent studies revealed that β-glucosidase plays a role in cancer development and chemoresistance.

Background: Ferroptosis is involved in the drug resistance mechanisms of some tumors. The present study aimed to explore the role of tissue inhibitor of matrix metalloprotease 1 (TIMP1) in sorafenib-triggered ferroptosis in colorectal cancer (CRC).

Methods: HCT-8 CRC cell lines were generated that were sorafenib-resistant or that under- or overexpressed TIMP1.

Effects of arginine vasopressin on the transcriptome of prefrontal cortex in autistic rat model.

J Cell Mol Med

November 2022

State Key Laboratory of Functions and Applications of Medicinal Plants, Guizhou Medical University, Guizhou, China.

Our previous studies have also demonstrated that AVP can significantly improve social interaction disorders and stereotypical behaviours in rats with VPA-induced autism model. To further explore the mechanisms of action of AVP, we compared the PFC transcriptome changes before and after AVP treatment in VPA-induced autism rat model. The autism model was induced by intraperitoneally injected with VPA at embryonic day 12.

Background: Peripherally inserted central catheter (PICC), as one of the important intravenous routes for the rescue and treatment of critically ill patients, has been widely used in the fluid resuscitation of critically ill patients in intensive care. In particular, PICC can be widely used in the treatment of cancer patients. With the wide application of peripheral central venous catheterization, the clinical findings of bloodstream infection complications caused by PICC have gradually attracted the attention of doctors and patients.

February 2023

Department of Integrated Traditional Chinese and Western Medicine, Wuhan Third Hospital -Tongren Hospital of Wuhan University, Wuhan, PR China.

Objective: Uveal melanoma (UM) is the common primary cancer of the eye and new treatments are needed. Substantial evidence has shown that an antibiotic monensin is an attractive candidate for the development of anti-cancer drug. In this study, we investigated the potential of repositioning monensin for the treatment of UM in the pre-clinical setting.

Background: FNDC5 is a novel and important player in energy regulation related to glucose metabolism and insulin levels. Thus, it may affect the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Nevertheless, the association between FNDC5 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and susceptibility to T2DM remains unclear.

Background: Hypoxemia is a very common issue in patients undergoing heart valve surgery (HVS), related to poor clinical outcomes. However, studies on severe hypoxemia (SH) after HVS have not been reported. The aims of this study were to identify predictors for SH in patients undergoing HVS and to develop and validate a risk prediction model.

Background: Gastrointestinal bleeding (GIB) commonly complicates anticoagulant therapy for patients with atrial fibrillation (AF). However, AF patients with prior GIB were excluded from most randomized controlled trials on anticoagulation therapy. Therefore, we conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess the effect of oral anticoagulant (OAC) therapy in this specific population.

There is increasing evidence that the GTPase-activating protein SH3 domain-binding protein 1 (G3BP1) plays important roles in the formation of various tumors. However, the biological functions and mechanism of G3BP1 in promoting the progression of oral squamous cell carcinoma remain largely unknown. The impacts of quercetin on glycolysis and proliferation of the CAL27 oral squamous cell carcinoma line were investigated, and the mediating role of the G3BP1/YWHAZ pathway was explored.

Prostate cancer is a common malignancy elderly male urogenital system, because of the special disease position, and postoperative complications such as urinary retention, urinary incontinence, and sexual dysfunction, if not treated, can increase the patients' physical pain, anxiety, and other psychological burden; endocrine therapy after surgery can affect self-image and quality of life of patients. Omaha system was originally used for community health nurses, which contains three main contents: problem classification, nursing intervention, and outcome evaluation. The problem classification dimension includes four dimensions: environment, physiology, social psychology, and health-related behavior.

Motor Imagery EEG (MI-EEG) classification plays an important role in different Brain-Computer Interface (BCI) systems. Recently, deep learning has been widely used in the MI-EEG classification tasks, however this technology requires a large number of labeled training samples which are difficult to obtain, and insufficient labeled training samples will result in a degradation of the classification performance. To address the degradation problem, we investigate a Self-Supervised Learning (SSL) based MI-EEG classification method to reduce the dependence on a large number of labeled training samples.
