Background: : Hypertension is an important contributing factor to atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD), and multiple risk factors, many of which are implicated in metabolic disorders, contribute to the cause of hypertension. Despite the promise of multimodal data-driven prediction model, no such prediction model was available to predict the risk of ASCVD in Chinese individuals with new-onset hypertension and no history of ASCVD.

Methods: : A total of 514 patients were randomly allocated to training and verification cohorts (ratio, 7 : 3).

Severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is a positive-sense, single-stranded RNA genome-containing virus which has infected millions of people all over the world. The virus has been mutating rapidly enough, resulting in the emergence of new variants and sub-variants which have reportedly been spread from Wuhan city in China, the epicenter of the virus, to the rest of China and all over the world. The occurrence of mutations in the viral genome, especially in the viral spike protein region, has resulted in the evolution of multiple variants and sub-variants which gives the virus the benefit of host immune evasion and thus renders modern-day vaccines and therapeutics ineffective.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study investigated the potential benefits of bailout angioplasty or stenting (BAOS) for patients with large vessel occlusion acute ischemic stroke (LVO-AIS) who experienced unsuccessful recanalization after thrombectomy, as poor outcomes are common in such cases.
  • - This randomized controlled trial involved 348 participants from 36 hospitals across China, who were either assigned to the BAOS intervention group or a control group receiving standard therapy, with outcomes measured by changes in the modified Rankin Scale at 90 days.
  • - Findings indicated a diverse participant demographic, primarily male, with a median age of 63, and both safety and efficacy of the BAOS procedure were evaluated without loss to follow-up for the primary outcomes.

Background: With the implementation of the 11th edition of the International Classification of Diseases (ICD-11) and the publication of the metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) nomenclature in 2020, it is important to establish consensus for the coding of MAFLD in ICD-11. This will inform subsequent revisions of ICD-11.

Methods: Using the Qualtrics XM and WJX platforms, questionnaires were sent online to MAFLD-ICD-11 coding collaborators, authors of papers, and relevant association members.

Potential of BMI as a screening indicator for extracranial-intracranial bypass surgery in patients with symptomatic artery occlusion: a post-hoc analysis of the CMOSS trial.

Int J Surg

September 2024

Department of Neurosurgery and Interventional Neuroradiology, Xuanwu Hospital, China International Neuroscience Institute, Capital Medical University, National Center for Neurological Disorders.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores the link between body mass index (BMI) and the risk of ischemic stroke in patients with blocked arteries, aiming to see if BMI can help identify those who might need surgery.
  • Out of 165 patients treated only with medical management, 9.7% experienced a stroke, with higher BMIs showing a stronger connection to this risk; the critical BMI cutoff was identified at 24.5 kg/m².
  • Patients with a BMI ≥24.5 kg/m² benefited more from surgical bypass compared to those with lower BMIs, suggesting the need for further large studies to solidify these results.

Prognostic predictive modeling of non-small cell lung cancer associated with cadmium-related pathogenic genes.

Comput Biol Chem

August 2024

School of Public Health, Wuhan University, 115 Donghu Road, Wuhan, Hubei Province 430071, China. Electronic address:

Persistent exposure to low-dose of cadmium is strongly linked to both the development and prognosis of non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), yet the precise molecular mechanism behind this relationship remains uncertain. In this study, cadmium-related pathogenic genes (CRPGs) in NSCLC were identified via differential expression analysis. NSCLC patient clusters related to CRPGs were constructed through univariate Cox and K-means clustering algorithms.

An association has been observed between systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) and primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) in observational studies, however, the exact causal link remains unclear. We aim to evaluate the causal relationships between SLE and PBC through bidirectional Mendelian randomization (MR). Single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) were selected as instrumental variables from publicly accessible genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in European populations.

Purpose: The advancement of heterodimeric tracers, renowned for their high sensitivity, marks a significant trend in the development of radiotracers for cancer diagnosis. Our prior work on [Ga]Ga-HX01, a heterodimeric tracer targeting CD13 and integrin αβ, led to its approval for phase I clinical trials by the China National Medical Production Administration (NMPA). However, its fast clearance and limited tumor retention pose challenges for broader clinical application in cancer treatment.
