This study delineates the enhancement of a Reverse Transcription Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) method for the amplification of the complete genome of the influenza A virus during heterosubtypic co-infection, relying on the amplification of intact gene segments. The precision of the method was assessed using all amplicons, which underwent both capillary electrophoresis and DNA sequencing. Five samples featuring co-infection of Influenza A viruses with H1N1 and H3N2 subtypes were evaluated.

Water quality, increasingly recognized for its significant impact on health, is garnering heightened attention. Previous studies were limited by the number of water quality indicators and the duration of analysis. This study assessed the drinking water quality and its associated health risk in suburban areas of Wuhan, a city in central China, from 2016 to 2021.

Investigating site-specific protein phosphorylation remains a challenging task. The present study introduces a two-step chemical derivatization method for accurate identification of phosphopeptides. Methylamine neutralizes carboxyl groups, thus reducing the adsorption of non-phosphorylated peptides during enrichment, while dimethylamine offers a cost-effective reagent for stable isotope labeling of phosphorylation sites.

Cadmium (Cd) is a harmful environmental pollutant that disrupts public health, including respiratory, digestive, and reproductive systems. In this study, male rats were exposed to CdCl at a dose of 3 mg/kg by oral for 28 days to investigate the impact on spermatogenesis. Testis tissue samples were collected after sacrifice, and piRNA expression levels were measured using piRNA microarray and qPCR.

Background: A sharp rise in household consumption of disinfectants triggered by COVID-19 pandemic has generated tremendous environmental burden and risks of disinfectant emissions in the post-pandemic period. To address this emerging challenge, replacing highly hazardous disinfectants with more environmental friendly alternatives has been accepted as an inherently effective solution to environment issues posed by disinfectant emerging contaminants. However, no study has yet been done to explore the potential customers' attitudes and the market prospect of environmental friendly disinfectants until now.

Introduction: To identify the association of the cyclin-dependent kinase 5 regulatory subunit associated protein 1-like 1 () gene polymorphism with gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in the Chinese population.
Research Design And Methods: This case-control study enrolled 835 pregnant women with GDM and 870 pregnant women without diabetes who underwent antenatal examination during 24 to 28 gestational weeks at the Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Hubei Province from January 15, 2018 to March 31, 2019. Trained nurses collected their clinical information and blood samples.

The evidence linking sleep duration and metabolic body size phenotypes is limited, especially in young adulthood. In this study, we aimed to examine the association between sleep duration and metabolic body size phenotypes among Chinese young workers and investigate whether discrepancies exist among shift and non-shift workers. A cross-sectional study was performed between 2018 and 2019 in Wuhan, China and 7,376 young adults aged 20-35 years were included.

Objective: To investigate the correlation between transcription factor 7-like 2 (TCF7L2) gene polymorphisms and gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) risk in the central Chinese population.
Methods: This case-control study examined the association of seven gene single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs11196218, rs4506565, rs7895340, rs7901695, rs11196205, rs12243326, and rs290487) with GDM risk in the central Chinese population (843 GDM and 877 controls). The clinical information and blood samples were collected by trained interviewers and nurses.

Substantial evidence highlighted the critical role of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNA) in driving hepatocarcinogenesis. We hypothesized that functional variants in genome-wide association studies (GWASs) associated loci might alter the expression levels of lncRNAs and contribute to the development of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Here, we prioritized potentially cis-expression quantitative trait loci-based single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP)-lncRNA association together with the physical interaction by the analyses from Hi-C data in GWAS loci of chronic hepatitis B and HCC.

Background: The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused a global pandemic, resulting in considerable mortality. The risk factors, clinical treatments, especially comprehensive risk models for COVID-19 death are urgently warranted.
Methods: In this retrospective study, 281 non-survivors and 712 survivors with propensity score matching by age, sex, and comorbidities were enrolled from January 13, 2020 to March 31, 2020.

The Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has spread globally. Although mixed liver impairment has been reported in COVID-19 patients, the association of liver injury caused by specific subtype especially chronic hepatitis B (CHB) with COVID-19 has not been elucidated. In this multi-center, retrospective, and observational cohort study, 109 CHB and 327 non-CHB patients with COVID-19 were propensity score matched at an approximate ratio of 3:1 on the basis of age, sex, and comorbidities.

Background: Gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) increased risk of perinatal complications for both the women and the fetuses. The association between the vitamin D receptor (VDR) gene polymorphism and GDM has not been thoroughly investigated in Chinese pregnant women. Therefore, we aimed to determine whether VDR gene single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) rs154410, rs7975232, rs731236, rs2228570 and rs739837 contribute to GDM risk in Wuhan, China.

Background Oxidative stress is considered to be involved in the pathogenesis of coronary heart disease (CHD). Glutathione-S-transferase (GST) enzymes play important roles in antioxidant defenses and may influence CHD risk. The present meta-analysis was performed to investigate the link between glutathione S-transferase M1 (GSTM1) null genotype and CHD and to get a precise evaluation of interaction between GSTM1 null genotype and smoking by the case-only design.

We aimed to assess the effect of childhood parental rearing on post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) among young HIV-positive men who have sex with men (MSM), as well as the mediation effect of social support on this association. A convenient sampling method and questionnaire-based survey were used to recruit eligible participants from the Wuhan Medical Treatment Center from 20 December 2018 to 28 February 2019. Bivariate analyses were used to investigate the correlations between PTSD and childhood parental rearing, the number of sexual partners and social support.

sequence type 131 (ST131) is well known for its multidrug resistance profile. Carbapenems have been considered the treatment of choice for ST131 infections, and resistance to carbapenems is emerging due to the acquisition of carbapenemase-encoding genes. In this study, 45 carbapenem-resistant strains were collected in a hospital.
