Introduction: Despite the high hopes for the use of transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) in the treatment of depression, between 30% and 60.5% of patients do not respond to stimulation. The factors contributing to non-response, especially those related to personality, remain insufficiently investigated.

This study aims to evaluate the influence of a nanohydroxyapatite layer applied to the surface of titanium or titanium alloy implants on the intricate process of osseointegration and its effect on osteoblast cell lines, compared to uncoated implants. Additionally, the investigation scrutinizes various modifications of the coating and their consequential effects on bone and cell line biocompatibility. On the specific date of November 2023, an exhaustive electronic search was conducted in esteemed databases such as PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus, utilizing the meticulously chosen keywords ((titanium) AND ((osteoblasts) and hydroxyapatite)).

The scope of this paper is to compare different dental sealants and flow materials indicated for sealing pits and fissures considering their chemical formula. The narrative review aims to address the following questions: What is the essence of different dental sealants' activity, how does their chemical formula affect their mechanisms of caries prevention, and what makes a dental sealant efficient mean of caries prevention? Another vital issue is whether the sealants that contain fluoride, or any other additions, have potentially increased antimicrobial properties. An electronic search of the PubMed, Cochrane, Web of Science, and Scopus databases was performed.

The stability and repeatability of laser metal deposition is particularly important when processing multiple layers or depositing material on complex component surfaces, and requires the use of process parameter control including the stand-off distance between the laser head and the substrate. The system proposed in this paper for correcting the stand-off parameter is based on a chromatic confocal sensor integrated into a laser head. Then, the spectral signal acquired from the measurement system is processed by using the developed application to compensate for the movement of an additional axis of the kinematic system.

Bacteria are the source of many bioactive compounds, including polymers with various physiological functions and the potential for medical applications. Pyomelanin from , a nonfermenting Gram-negative bacterium, is a black-brown negatively charged extracellular polymer of homogentisic acid produced during L-tyrosine catabolism. Due to its chemical properties and the presence of active functional groups, pyomelanin is a candidate for the development of new antioxidant, antimicrobial and immunomodulatory formulations.

The microstructural characteristics and phase composition of solution precursor plasma-sprayed (SPPS) titania-based coatings using a catalyst-free precursor are reported in this work. An ethanol-based solution containing titanium isopropoxide was used to deposit TiO coatings. The thermal behavior of the solution precursor changed as its phase transformation temperature increased when the molar concentration was increased from 0.

Atomistic level characterisation of external surface species of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) poses a significant analytical challenge due to the inherently low content of grafted ligands. This study proposes the use of HR-MAS NMR spectroscopy for a molecular level characterisation of the external surface of carbohydrate-functionalised nanoparticles. MSN differing in size (32 nm, 106 nm, 220 nm) were synthesised using the sol-gel method.

In this research we developed a micro-sized hierarchical structures on a poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) surface. The obtained structures consist of round-shaped protrusions with a diameter of ~20 μm, a height of ~3 μm, and the distance between them ~30 μm. We explored the effect of structuring PLLA to design a non-cytotoxic material with increased roughness to encourage cells to settle on the surface.

In the presented study, a PGS prepolymer (pPGS) was synthesized utilizing polycondensation technique (equimolar sebacic acid:glycerol ratio, 130 °C, 24 h). Subsequently, the pPGS was thermally cross-linked in vacuum oven in 130 °C for 84 and 168 h. The cylindrical and dumbbell-shaped samples were subjected for physico-chemical and thorough mechanical analysis including tensile and compressive strength evaluation as well as dynamic mechanical thermal analysis (DMTA).

In this research, we describe the properties of three-component composite foam scaffolds based on poly(ε-caprolactone) (PCL) as a matrix and hydroxyapatite whiskers (HAP) and L-Lysine as fillers (PCL/HAP/Lys with wt% ratio 50/48/2). The scaffolds were prepared using a thermally induced phase separation technique supported by salt leaching (TIPS-SL). All materials were precisely characterized: porosity, density, water uptake, wettability, DSC, and TGA measurements and compression tests were carried out.

In this research we subjected samples of poly(L-lactide) (PLLA) extruded film to ultraviolet (193 nm ArF excimer laser) radiation below the ablation threshold. The modified film was immersed in Simulated Body Fluid (SBF) at 37 °C for 1 day or 7 days to obtain a layer of apatite ceramic (CaP) coating on the modified PLLA surface. The samples were characterized by means of optical profilometry, which indicated an increase in average roughness (Ra) from 25 nm for the unmodified PLLA to over 580 nm for irradiated PLLA incubated in SBF for 1 day.

A series of nanocomposites made of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and 10 wt% zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) were produced by extrusion and injection molding. The nanoparticles were prepared via a green way using the pectin-based banana peel extract as the stabilizer and a proper dispersion-providing agent. The fillers were well-dispersed in the matrix and the composites exhibited improved functional characteristics such as increased thermal stability and mechanical properties.

In this research, we prepared foam scaffolds based on poly(l-lactide) (PLLA) and apatite whiskers (HAP) using thermally induced phase separation technique supported by the salt leaching process (TIPS-SL). Using sodium chloride having a size of (a) 150-315 μm, (b) 315-400 μm, and (c) 500-600 μm, three types of foams with different pore sizes have been obtained. Internal structure of the obtained materials has been investigated using SEM as well as μCT.
