Resolvins (D-series and E-series) are pro-resolving lipid mediators involved in resolution and tissue repair, whose intracellular signaling remains of interest. The estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) equations based on serum creatinine (SCR) have been used for pediatric dose adjustment in drug labeling. This study evaluated the performance of those equations in estimating individual clearance of drugs that are predominantly eliminated by glomerular filtration, using clinical data from the renally eliminated drugs gadobutrol, gadoterate, amikacin, and vancomycin. The eGFR was compared with the observed drug clearance (CL) in 352 pediatric patients from birth to 12 years of age.

Background: The use of bone marrow concentrate (BMC) for treatment of musculoskeletal disorders has become increasingly popular over the last several years, as technology has improved along with the need for better solutions for these pathologies. The use of cellular tissue raises a number of issues regarding the US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) regulation in classifying these treatments as a drug versus just autologous tissue transplantation. Vitamin D3 is a secosteroid hormone produced in the skin in amounts estimated up to 25,000 international units (IUs) a day by the action of UVB radiation on 7-dehydrocholesterol. Vitamin D deficiency is common due to both lack of adequate sun exposure to the skin, and because vitamin D is present in very few food sources. Deficiency is strongly linked to increased risk for a multitude of diseases, several of which have historically been shown to improve dramatically with either adequate UVB exposure to the skin, or to oral or topical supplementation with vitamin D.

The loss of extracellular matrix in combination with the exposure of structures such as bone and tendon pose a major challenge; the development of granulation tissue and subsequent reepithelialization over these structures is extremely slow and often may not happen at all. Replacement of the matrix has been shown to significantly increase the chances of healing since, with revascularization of the matrix, a wound bed is created that may either heal by secondary intention or via the application of a skin graft. A literature search on an esterified hyaluronic acid-based matrix (eHAM) returned five articles on the treatment of wounds with tendon and bone loss in which the eHAM was used.

Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) is an aggressive subtype of breast cancer that is difficult to treat since cells lack the three receptors (ES, PR, or HER) that the most effective treatments target. We have used a well-established TNBC cell line (MDA-MB-231) from which we found evidence in support for a phospholipase D (PLD)-mediated tumor growth and metastasis: high levels of expression of PLD, as well as the absence of inhibitory miRs (such as miR-203) and 3'-mRNA PARN deadenylase activity in these cells. Such findings are not present in a luminal B cell line, MCF-7, and we propose a new miR•PARN•PLD node that is not uniform across breast cancer molecular subtypes and as such TNBC could be pharmacologically targeted differentially.
