The bottle gourd plant fibres (BGPF) and okra fibres were processed and refined (w/w 6 % NaOH) before being incorporated with polyolefin (polypropylene) for composite fabrication using a blending technique. The polyolefin matrix is used to develop composites with 5 % okra fibres and varying percentages (25, 30, 35 and 40 %) of BGPF. The results indicated that the "35 % BGPF +5 % okra +60 % polypropylene" composition achieved remarkable mechanical properties with tensile strength (26.

The manufacture of regenerated cellulose-based fibers for better mechanical and comfort qualities was stimulated by the rising demand for cotton and the low production rate needed to meet global demands. Modal-cotton blend provides better tensile and moisture management properties. The present work has been designed to sketch out the scope of increased dye fixation or dye uptake opportunity onto the blends.

In this research, activated carbon (AC) was synthesized from ligno-cellulosic residues of wood chips (AKTW) using two-step semi-carbonization and subsequent pyrolysis using microwave-induced heating (MWP) in the presence of a mild activating agent of KCO. The influence of process input variables of microwave power (), residence time (), and amount of KCO () were analysed to yield superior quality carbon having maximum removal efficiencies () for lead (II) cations from waste effluents, fixed carbon percentages (), and carbon yield percentages (). Analysis of variance (ANOVA) was used to develop relevant mathematical models, with an appropriate statistical assessment of errors.

Introduction: The outbreak of COVID-19 poses great challenges for patients on maintenance haemodialysis. Here, we reported the clinical characteristics and laboratory features of maintenance haemodialysis (MHD) patients with COVID-19 in Bangladesh.

Methods: Altogether, 67 MHD patients were enroled in the study from two dedicated tertiary-level hospitals for COVID-19 after the prospective cross-sectional execution of selection criteria.

Background: Malnutrition and depression are highly prevalent in older adults and can lead to disparaging outcomes. Analytical studies on geriatric depression (GD) and its association with malnutrition are very scarce in Bangladesh, although the size of the older population is increasing fast in the country. The current study aimed to assess the association between malnutrition and depression and associated risk factors in rural older adults.

The antiperovskites based on metal halides have emerged as potential materials for advanced photovoltaic and electronic device applications. But the wide bandgap of non-toxic CsSnCl reduces its photovoltaic efficiency. Here, we report the change of electronic structure of CsSnCl at different pressure by using GGA-rPBE and GGA-PBEsol functionals and the GW method.

Article Synopsis
  • - Antibiotic use in animals contributes significantly to antimicrobial resistance (AMR), but research on veterinary students' knowledge and practices is limited compared to humans.
  • - A study of 3002 veterinary and non-medical students in Bangladesh found that veterinary students had better knowledge and practices regarding antibiotics and AMR, especially first-year students versus final-year students.
  • - Despite positive impacts from the veterinary curriculum, gaps in knowledge and practices were identified, indicating a need for improved education on AMR to better prepare future practitioners.

Background: Frailty is associated with healthy ageing, and it has been identified as a means of measuring older adults' physio-psychosocial health. We know about the ageing trends and common diseases of older adults living in South Asia, but literature to date does not widely feature their health status based on frailty, especially in Bangladesh. This study aims to understand the prevalence of frailty in Bangladeshi older adults; classify their health status; and investigate associated risk factors.
