Purpose: Necrotizing otitis externa (NOE) is a serious life-threatening infection, with Pseudomonas (PA) aeruginosa being the primary causative agent. Over the last two decades the use of systemic anti-PA antibiotics expanded substantially and are now prescribed regularly by physicians. Meanwhile, studies indicate shifting trends in the incidence of the offending pathogen in NOE.

Injury to the hamate can result in significant functional impairment and a negative impact on quality of life. These injuries, in general, occur very infrequently, and in the setting of an increasingly ageing population and more patients presenting post falls, clinicians are at risk of either misdiagnosing or failing to diagnose patients who sustain hamate fractures. This review finds that hamate fractures can occur through acute trauma or chronic repetitive stress.

This study aimed to evaluate the diagnostic performance of the Confirm Rx™ ICM in detecting AF episodes of varying durations.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter retrospective analysis of consecutive patients implanted with a Confirm Rx™ ICM (v1.

Objective: Most patients who have an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) implant do not receive life-prolonging therapy from it. Little research has been undertaken to determine which patients benefit the least from ICD therapy. As patients age and accumulate comorbidities, the risk of death increases and the benefit of ICDs diminishes.

Introduction: Retrograde femoral nailing is a frequently performed surgical procedure used to stabilize a supracondylar femur fracture. We are reporting a unique case where the insertion of the anteroposterior interlocking screw of a retrograde nail caused vascular damage. Within the elderly patient population, we anticipate the presence of significant collateral blood vessels, which increases the potential for vascular damage during the insertion of a proximal screw.

Background: Incomplete revascularization (ICR) has been associated with a worse prognosis after a percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI). In NSTEMI patients with multivessel disease (MVD) however, the benefit of a complete revascularization (CR) remains unclear.
Methods: Patients presenting with an NSTEMI and MVD were selected from the global e-ULTIMASTER registry and grouped according to completeness of revascularization at index hospitalization discharge.

Purpose Of The Study: Managing bone tumours is complex, relying on limited evidence, expert opinions, and retrospective reviews. Multidisciplinary approaches and early diagnosis are crucial for better outcomes, especially in young patients with growing skeletons. The aim of this systemic review and meta-analysis is to give a comprehensive review of common malignant tumors affecting long bones in children and adolescents.

Materials And Methods: An international online survey of urologists and urologists in training who perform RIO for testicular cancer was developed by the British Association of Urological Surgeons (BAUS) Sections of Andrology and Oncology and the British Urology Researchers in Surgical Training (BURST). The recruitment process used social media and the emailing lists of national urological societies.

Introduction: Despite the growing awareness towards the importance of adequate representation of women in clinical trials among patients treated with percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI), available evidence continues to demonstrate a skewed distribution of study populations in favour of men.
Methods And Results: In this pre-specified analysis from the MASTER DAPT screening log and trial, we aimed to investigate the existence of a negative selection bias for women inclusion in a randomized clinical trial. A total of 2847 consecutive patients who underwent coronary revascularization across 65 participating sites, during a median of 14 days, were entered in the screening log, including 1749 (61.

Introduction: At Sandwell General Hospital, there was no risk stratification tool or pathway for head injury (HI) patients presenting to the emergency department (ED). This resulted in significant delays in the assessment of HI patients, compromising patient safety and quality of care.
Aims: To employ quality improvement methodology to design an effective adult HI pathway that: ensured >90% of high-risk HI patients being assessed by ED clinicians within 15 min of arrival, reduce CT turnaround times, and aiming to keep the final decision making <4 hours.

Introduction The prevalence of bilateral hip arthritis continues to rise. With the dramatic change in the practice of modern-day arthroplasty with standard operating protocols and guidelines in place to reduce the incidence of surgical site infection and peri-operative thromboembolic events, simultaneous bilateral total hip replacement (THR) has been considered a viable option to reduce morbidity. The efficacy of simultaneous bilateral THR with regard to patient outcomes and complications has been debated.

Trauma and orthopaedics is a useful rotation for junior doctors to undertake. Experience in the specialty allows doctors to feel more confident in the diagnosis and treatment of conditions affecting the entire musculoskeletal system. Many junior doctors cover on-calls in trauma and orthopaedics departments, often with no prior specialist experience.

Background: The optimum curative approach to adenocarcinoma of the oesophagus and oesophagogastric junction is unknown. We aimed to compare trimodality therapy (preoperative radiotherapy with carboplatin plus paclitaxel [CROSS regimen]) with optimum contemporaneous perioperative chemotherapy regimens (epirubicin plus cisplatin or oxaliplatin plus fluorouracil or capecitabine [a modified MAGIC regimen] before 2018 and fluorouracil, leucovorin, oxaliplatin, and docetaxel [FLOT] subsequently).
Methods: Neo-AEGIS (CTRIAL-IE 10-14) was an open-label, randomised, phase 3 trial done at 24 centres in Europe.
