Does arthroscopic preemptive extensive rotator interval release reduce postoperative stiffness after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair?: a prospective randomized clinical trial.

Background: To investigate whether preemptive extensive rotator interval (RI) release during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair (ARCR) would reduce postoperative stiffness.

Methods: From July 2015 to September 2016, a total of 80 patients who were scheduled for ARCR were enrolled and randomly allocated into 2 groups: the preemptive extensive RI release group (group 1, n=40) and the RI nonrelease group (group 2, n=40). The American Shoulder and Elbow Surgeons scale, Constant score, Korean Shoulder Scale (KSS), visual analog scale (VAS) pain score, and range of motion (ROM) were evaluated before surgery; 3, 6, and 12 months after surgery; and at last follow-up.

Incidence of Osteoporotic Refractures Following Proximal Humerus Fractures in Adults Aged 50 Years and Older in Korea.

Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence and characteristics of osteoporotic refractures after proximal humerus fracture in Korean adults aged above 50 years.

Methods: Patients aged 50 years or older with initial proximal humerus fractures reported in 2012 were enrolled and followed up until 2016 using the Korean National Health Insurance data. Based on the last claim date, the refractures were classified as osteoporotic fractures including spine, hip, distal radius, and humerus 6 months after the index fracture involving the proximal humerus.

Validation of the Core Seven-Emotions Inventory - short form.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the reliability and validity of short form of the Core Seven Emotions Inventory (CSEI-s) scale.

Methods: The participants were third-grade Korean Medicine University students As with the original CSEI, the scales in the short form (CSEI-s) were composed of seven factors and consisted of 28 items in total. The internal consistency coefficient was calculated, and a confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to verify the reliability of the short form scale.

Long-term Follow-up of Extensive Peri-anchor (Poly-L/D-lactic Acid) Cyst Formation after Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Case Report.

Suture anchors are commonly used in shoulder surgeries, especially for rotator cuff tears. Peri-anchor cyst formation, however, is sometimes detected on follow-up radiologic image after surgery. The purpose of this report is to discuss the case of a patient who presented with regression of extensive peri-anchor cyst on postoperative 4-year follow-up magnetic resonance imaging and had good clinical outcome despite peri-anchor cyst formation after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.

The Sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy Using Indocyanine Green Fluorescence Plus Radioisotope Method Compared With the Radioisotope-Only Method for Breast Cancer Patients After Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy: A Prospective, Randomized, Open-Label, Single-Center Phase 2 Trial.

Background: This study aimed to compare the sentinel lymph node (SLN) identification rates for breast cancer patients after neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) between the dual method (DM) of indocyanine green fluorescence (ICG-F) plus a radioisotope (RI) and RI alone.

Methods: This randomized study enrolled 130 patients who received NAC for breast cancer and 122 patients who received SLN biopsy (SLNB) using either DM (n = 58) or RI only (n = 64). The study compared the identification rate, number of SLNs, and detection time of SLNB.

Medical Treatment with Somatostatin Analogues in Acromegaly: Position Statement.

The Korean Endocrine Society (KES) published clinical practice guidelines for the treatment of acromegaly in 2011. Since then, the number of acromegaly cases, publications on studies addressing medical treatment of acromegaly, and demands for improvements in insurance coverage have been dramatically increasing. In 2017, the KES Committee of Health Insurance decided to publish a position statement regarding the use of somatostatin analogues in acromegaly.

Clinical Application of Bone Turnover Markers in Osteoporosis in Korea.

Bone turnover markers (BTMs) have important role in the management of osteoporosis. Recently the clinical application of BTMs has achieved significant progress and measurement of BTMs give us better understanding of pathogenesis of osteoporosis. However, the use of BTMs is still insufficient in Korea.

Background/aims: The () eradication rate of standard triple therapy is unsatisfactory in Korea, and sequential therapy (SQT) has been suggested to be a practical first-line alternative regimen. The aim of this prospective study was to document changes in annual eradication rates of SQT.

Methods: A total of 983 -positive subjects were enrolled from 2010 to 2018 and their data were subjected to intention-to-treat (ITT) and per-protocol (PP) analysis.

Changes in the healthcare utilization after establishment of emergency centre in Yaoundé, Cameroon: A before and after cross-sectional survey analysis.

In effort to address the shortage of emergency medical care in Cameroon, the Yaoundé Emergency Center (CURY) was established in June, 2015 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. To evaluate its impact on the communities of Yaoundé, we assessed the changes in utilizations of emergency medical care since the establishment of the CURY. In 2014 the first survey was conducted on randomly selected 619 households (3,201 individuals) living in six health districts of Yaoundé.

Development and validation of the COugh Assessment Test (COAT).

Background And Objective: A cough-specific quality-of-life questionnaire is recommended to assess the impact of cough; however, a simple instrument to quantify cough is required for everyday clinical practice. This study was aimed to develop a short patient-completed questionnaire (COugh Assessment Test, COAT).

Methods: The COAT was developed and validated by comparison with the Korean version of Leicester Cough Questionnaire (K-LCQ) and cough numeric rating scale (NRS, 0-10, 11-point scale) for chronic cough patients.

Korean Guideline for the Prevention and Treatment of Glucocorticoid-induced Osteoporosis.

Background: To develop guidelines and recommendations to prevent and treat glucocorticoid (GC)-induced osteoporosis (GIOP) in Korea.

Methods: The Korean Society for Bone and Mineral Research and the Korean College of Rheumatology have developed this guideline based on Guidance for the Development of Clinical Practice Guidelines ver. 1.

Clinical effects of mindfulness meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy standardized for insomnia: A protocol for a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Introduction: This systematic review protocol describes the methods that will be used to evaluate the efficacy and safety of mindfulness meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy programs as a psychological intervention for insomnia disorders.

Methods And Analysis: We will search the following 11 electronic databases without language or publication status restrictions: MEDLINE, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials, EMBASE, Allied and Complementary Medicine Database, Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature, and PsycARTICLES. Furthermore, we will also search 5 Korean-language databases (Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, Korean studies Information Service System, Research Information Service System, Korean Medical Database, and Korea Citation Index).

Efficacy and Safety of Laparoscopic Hartmann Colostomy Reversal.

Purpose: Hartmann operation is widely recognized as a useful procedure, especially in emergencies involving the rectosigmoid colon. One of the surgeon's foremost concerns after Hartmann operation is future colostomy reversal, as colostomy reversal after a Hartmann procedure is associated with relatively high morbidity and mortality. Laparoscopic surgical techniques continue to prove useful for an ever-increasing variety of indications.

Comparison of the efficacy between once-monthly oral ibandronate and risedronate among Korean women with osteoporosis: a nationwide population-based study.

Unlabelled: Using a nationwide database from the Korean National Health Insurance Service, this study showed that once-monthly oral ibandronate (150 mg) had better anti-fracture efficacy than once-monthly oral risedronate (150 mg), as seen on assessing overall and non-vertebral fractures among Korean elderly women with osteoporosis.

Introduction: Once-monthly oral bisphosphonates have been used widely without appropriate comparison. Therefore, we aimed to compare the anti-fracture efficacy of once-monthly ibandronate (150 mg) and once-monthly risedronate (150 mg).

Bisphosphonates Use and Risk of Subtrochanteric and Diaphyseal Femur Fractures in Korea: Results from the National Claim Registry.

Although Asian with bisphosphonate has been considered to have higher risk of subtrochanteric and diaphyseal femur (ST/DF) fractures, the occurrence of those fractures has been still unclear in Asia. The purpose of this study was to investigate the incidence rate of ST/DF fractures among bisphosphonate users from nationwide database in South Korea. Using national health insurance claim database, we only included the bisphosphonate users who took bisphosphonate for the first time in 2008 and evaluated the incidence rate of ST/DF fracture from 2008 to 2013.

Meditation-based clinical study to determine the correlation of quantitative electroencephalogram (qEEG) and 24-hour EEG activity.

Background: The heart continuously transmits information to the cerebrum during each pulse, and influences information processing such as perception, cognition, and emotion, which are processed in the cerebrum. This is the basis for the theory of oriental medicine widely used in psychiatric medicine and clinical practice, so-called Simjushinji (heart and brain) theory, that the heart controls the mind. The present study aims to analyze the correlation between heart and brain function by 24-hour active electrocardiogram and quantitative electroencephalogram (EEG) measurement under meditation.

The Effect of Microbiota on Colon Carcinogenesis.

Although genetic background is known to contribute to colon carcinogenesis, the exact etiology of the disease remains elusive. The organ's extensive interaction with microbes necessitated research on the role of microbiota on development of colon cancer. In this review, we summarized the defense mechanism of colon from foreign organism, and germ-free animal models that have been employed to elucidate microbial effect.

The Relationship between Handgrip Strength and Cognitive Function in Elderly Koreans over 8 Years: A Prospective Population-Based Study Using Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing.

Background: Decreased physical performance, such as weakened handgrip strength and cognitive decline, is associated with disability and premature death in old age. We investigated the association between handgrip strength and cognitive impairment in Korean elderly adults with normal cognitive function.

Methods: This prospective study used the database from the Korean Longitudinal Study of Ageing.

Association Between Anxiety and Depression and Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease: Results From a Large Cross-sectional Study.

Background/aims: The different clinical manifestations of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) may be influenced by associated psychological factors. We evaluated the psychological status (anxiety and depression) according to each subtype of GERD.

Methods: Subjects who underwent esophagogastroduodenoscopy and completed a symptom questionnaire between January 2008 and December 2011 were analyzed.

Pollen-Food Allergy Syndrome in Korean Pollinosis Patients: A Nationwide Survey.

Purpose: Pollen-food allergy syndrome (PFAS) is an immunoglobulin E (IgE)-mediated allergy in pollinosis patients caused by raw fruits and vegetables and is the most common food allergy in adults. However, there has been no nationwide study on PFAS in Korea. In this study, we investigated the prevalence and clinical characteristics of PFAS in Korea.
