Department of R&BD, Cellco Inc. 208, Venture Startup Center, Jeonju University, 303, Cheonjam-ro, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si 55069, Republic of Korea.

3D porous scaffolds based on biodegradable polymers are one of the materials for bone tissue regeneration. In this study, a porous scaffold was prepared using a solvent casting/particulate leaching method that used polycaprolactone (PCL) and hydroxyapatite (OceanBone-HAp) extracted from a marine plankton exoskeleton to achieve excellent bone regeneration. In this study, the morphology and physicochemical properties of the PCL/OceanBone-HAp scaffolds were evaluated using scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and porosity analysis.

Whitlockite (WH) is a calcium-phosphate-based Mg-containing ceramic with good mechanical properties, rapid resorption, and good osteogenicity. Recently, we successfully synthesized highly porous WH granules using a marine plankton exoskeleton (MP-WH). In the present study, we improved the osteoinductive activity of MP-WH granules by bone morphogenetic protein2 (BMP2) (MP-WH/BMP2).

This study was aimed at preparing zirconia samples via additive manufacturing (AM) and subtractive manufacturing (SM) and testing the following aspects: (1) the manufacturing accuracy of the zirconia samples and (2) the bond strength of porcelain to zirconia to evaluate the applicability of the zirconia fabricated by AM in dental clinics. We used three milling machines for SM (AR, K5, and UP) and a 3D printer for AM (AO). The manufacturing accuracy of the zirconia specimen in the internal and marginal areas was evaluated by superimposing techniques to calculate the root mean square (RMS) values.

We synthesized an alcohol-based liquid scintillator (AbLS), and we implemented an auxiliary monitoring system with short calibration intervals using AbLS for particle therapy. The commercial liquid scintillator used in previous studies did not allow the user to control the chemical ratio and its composition. In our study, the chemical ratio of AbLS was freely controlled by simultaneously mixing water and alcohol.

Effect of Cooling Rate during Glazing on the Mechanical and Optical Properties of Monolithic Zirconia with 3 mol% Yttria Content.

Materials (Basel)

December 2021

Department of Dental Materials, Dental and Life Science Institute, School of Dentistry, Pusan National University, Yangsan-si 50612, Gyeongsangnam-do, Korea.

Glazing is the final heat treatment process in the manufacturing of a monolithic zirconia prosthesis. Herein, the effect of cooling rate during zirconia glazing was investigated. A 3 mol% yttria-stabilized tetragonal zirconia polycrystal was glazed at the general cooling rate suggested by the manufacturer, as well as at higher and lower cooling rates, and the differences in flexural strength, hardness, optical properties, and crystal structure were evaluated.

Article Synopsis
  • - Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic skin condition characterized by inflammation and itchiness, with house dust mites, specifically Der p 38, identified as significant allergens that intensify its development.
  • - In laboratory studies, Der p 38 was found to compromise filaggrin production, a key protein for skin barrier function, while promoting inflammation through various cellular pathways.
  • - Experiments in mice showed that exposure to Der p 38 increased skin lesions and inflammatory cell activity, but these effects were less pronounced in mice lacking the TLR4 receptor, suggesting TLR4's crucial role in the allergenic response triggered by Der p 38.

The diarylheptanoid, 5-hydroxy-7-(4"-hydroxy-3"-metho-xyphenyl)-1-phenyl-3-heptanone (HPH), is isolated from rhizomes of Alpinia officinarum. There is no reported biological function for this compound other than the inhibition of pancreatic lipase. Cell viability, the expression of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress genes, the activation of ER stress sensors, and the induction of apoptosis and autophagy were confirmed following HPH treatment of PC12 cells.
