[Life transition of mothers of children with autism].

Purpose: While there are a number of studies on children with disabilities, there have been few studies on mothers of children with autism. The purpose of this study was to explore the process of life transition of mothers who have children with autism.

Methods: From June 2007 to May 2009, the researcher interviewed 15 mothers of children with autism living in Seoul City, Gyeonggi or Chonbuk Provinces, and then analyzed the data gathered using the constant comparative method of grounded theory.

[A structural model of caring behavior of mothers of disabled children].

Purpose: This study was done to develop a model which explains factors influencing caring behavior of mothers who have children with disabilities, and to verify the appropriateness of the model and the relationship among variables.

Methods: The participants in the research were the mothers who had a 3 to 12 yr-old children with disabilities. The data were collected from 451 mothers through self-reported questionnaires from July 14 to 31, 2008.

Forty-three elderly people with chronic pain were randomly assigned either to an intervention or a general care group. The intervention group was given four weeks of Qi-therapy whereas the control group was given standard care.

Effects of Qi-therapy on premenstrual syndrome.

This study investigated the effects of Qi-therapy (nine sessions over two menstrual cycles) on pain and other symptoms in women with premenstrual syndrome (PMS). Forty-six women who were attending college were randomly allocated to receive Qi-therapy (Qi-therapy group: n = 23) or placed on a waiting list as controls (n = 22: 1 dropped out). Sorting of the human folate receptor in MDCK cells.

The human folate receptor (hFR) is a glycosylphosphatidy-linositol (GPI) linked plasma membrane protein that mediates delivery of folates into cells. We studied the sorting of the hFR using transfection of the hFR cDNA into MDCK cells. MDCK cells are polarized epithelial cells that preferentially sort GPI-linked proteins to their apical membrane.

The role of gastrointestinal endoscopy in long-distance runners with gastrointestinal symptoms.

Background: Exercise-related gastrointestinal symptoms are not uncommon among athletes. The occurrence of gastrointestinal bleeding has been reported, especially in long-distance runners. We studied gastrointestinal mucosal damage, using gastrointestinal endoscopy, in competitive long-distance runners.
