The aim of this study is to propose and evaluate a novel method for measuring the central ray direction and detecting the rotation centre of panoramic radiography using the panorama phantom. To determine the central ray direction, 2 points passing through the same x-coordinate in a panoramic radiograph were identified and connected. The angles formed by the central ray with the midline and the angle to the arch form were measured using mathematical calculations.

Background: Positron emission tomography (PET) has been reported as effective in diagnosing peripheral nerve injury (PNI). However, there is a lack of studies evaluating different degrees of PNI using PET within the same individual to reduce errors due to interindividual differences.
Purpose: To evaluate the recovery process in the same rat after sciatic nerve injury using PET/magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).

The aim of this retrospective study was to assess the efficacy of recombinant human bone morphogenetic protein-2 (rhBMP-2) with hydroxyapatite (HA) granules and fibrin sealant (FS) in maxillary sinus floor augmentation (MSFA), with a focus on the volume change. Fifty-two of 137 patients who underwent MSFA with rhBMP-2/HA grafting between June 2016 and December 2022 met the study inclusion criteria; 25 had received rhBMP-2/HA without FS and 27 had received rhBMP-2/HA with FS. Computed tomography (CT) images were obtained preoperatively, immediately following the operation, and at 6 months postoperative.

Background: Radiolucencies found at the root apex in patients with cemento-osseous dysplasia (COD) may be mistaken for periapical cysts (PC) of endodontic origin. The purpose of this study was to examine the utility of quantitative texture analysis using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to differentiate between COD and PC.
Methods: Patients who underwent CBCT at Wonkwang University Daejeon Dental Hospital between January 2019 and December 2022 and were diagnosed with COD and PC by clinical, radiologic, and, if necessary, histopathologic examination were included.

Introduction: The visualization and understanding of the details of the root configurations and root canal structure are essential prior to root canal treatment. This study aimed to identify key indicators of pronounced root divergence between the distobuccal and distolingual roots in mandibular first molars by highlighting common features observed in panoramic radiographs. These indicators can help predict the likelihood of encountering significant root divergence before initiating endodontic treatment.

Age estimation is important in forensics, and numerous techniques have been investigated to estimate age based on various parts of the body. Among them, dental tissue is considered reliable for estimating age as it is less influenced by external factors. The advancement in deep learning has led to the development of automatic estimation of age using dental panoramic images.

Deep bite is usually treated by intrusion of the anterior teeth, extrusion of the posterior teeth, or a combination thereof. Various traditional methods have been used to correct deep bites, but they can cause negative side effects. Recently, temporary skeletal anchorage devices (TSADs) have been used to intrude the anterior teeth simply and efficiently without side effects.

This study suggests a hybrid method based on ResNet50 and vision transformer (ViT) in an age estimation model. To this end, panoramic radiographs are used for learning by considering both local features and global information, which is important in estimating age. Transverse and longitudinal panoramic images of 9663 patients were selected (4774 males and 4889 females with a mean age of 39 years and 3 months).

Objective: This case report demonstrates an interdisciplinary approach to treat a 26-year-old male patient with hyperdivergent Class II skeletal pattern, maxillary transverse deficiency, slight anterior open bite, and multiple hopeless teeth with root rests.
Clinical Considerations: An interdisciplinary treatment was required for oral hygiene improvement, caries treatment, extraction of residual roots and hopeless teeth, maxillary expansion using microimplant-assisted rapid palatal expansion, improvement of skeletal and dental relationship using orthodontic microimplants, and prosthetic restorations with the aid of dental implants.
Conclusion: Consequently, esthetic and functional occlusal rehabilitation was achieved.

The nasal cavity is an important landmark when considering implant insertion into the anterior region of the maxillary arch. The perforation of implants into the nasal cavity may cause complications, such as implant migration, inflammation, or changes in nasal airflow; thus, precise assessment of the nasal cavity is mandatory.Three cases of nasal cavity perforation by dental implants are presented, including one case of implant fixture migration into the nasal cavity.

Lysosomal exocytosis is an essential cellular event for remodeling the extracellular matrix through secreting lysosomal enzymes and developing drug resistance. However, the detailed mechanism underlying the lysosomal exocytosis-driven acquisition of drug resistance is not completely understood. Genetic variations in gefitinib-sensitive (HSC3) and -resistant (HSC3/GR) oral squamous carcinoma cell lines were identified using whole-exome sequencing (WES).

The aim of this study was to determine the factors that affect esthetic preference regarding the perceived facial attractiveness of young Korean female adults with a normal skeletal pattern using cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT). After reorienting the CBCT images of 40 young Korean female adults, three-dimensional (3D) measurements were analyzed, and five 3D facial images were digitally constructed. A computer-based questionnaire was used to determine perceived facial attractiveness by scoring from 1 (very unattractive) to 10 (very attractive).
