can cause various types of infections and is one of the most ubiquitous antibiotic-resistant pathogens found in healthcare settings. It is capable of adapting to adverse conditions by transforming its motile lifestyle to a sessile biofilm lifestyle, which induces a steady state of chronic infection. However, mechanisms triggering the lifestyle transition of strains with clinical significance are not very clear.

Article Synopsis
  • Urolithiasis is a challenging condition to treat, but advancements like minimally invasive percutaneous nephrolithotomy (MPCNL) offer effective solutions with benefits such as high stone clearance rates and shorter recovery times.
  • This paper investigates risk factors for recurrent kidney stones and urinary tract infections post-MPCNL, specifically focusing on the effects of calcified nanoparticles (CNPs).
  • The study established a rat model to explore how CNPs contribute to stone formation and identified significant factors for septic shock risk, such as preoperative urinary tract infections, achieving a 99.2% accuracy in their findings.

Background: Extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma (EES) is a member of the Ewing sarcoma family of tumors which is pathologically known as a small, round, blue cell tumor involving bone and soft tissue. The prevalence of EES is only 15%-25% of all Ewing sarcoma and EES often occurs in patients aged from 20-mo-old to 30-years-old resulting in an unfavorable prognosis.

Case Summary: The present case report described a 7-year-old patient with a palpable EES mass of 33 mm × 27 mm × 28 mm in the deep neck with symptoms of persistent dyspnea over the past 5 mo.

Department of Pediatrics, Guangdong Women and Children Hospital, Guangzhou, Guangdong 511442, P.R. China.

Article Synopsis
  • * The study aimed to explore how PIM2 influences lung injury in pediatric sepsis by examining its expression in LPS-induced BEAS-2B pulmonary epithelial cells and utilizing various experimental techniques.
  • * Findings showed that reducing PIM2 levels improved cell viability and reduced inflammation and oxidative stress in these cells, which was linked to downregulation of the TLR2/MyD88 signaling pathway.

Purpose: To investigated the changes of gut microbiome and fecal metabolome during anti-tuberculosis chemotherapy with isoniazid (H)-rifampin (R)-pyrazinamide (Z)-ethambutol (E).

Patients And Methods: (1) In this study, we recruited 168 stool specimens from 49 healthy volunteers without (Mtb), 30 healthy volunteers with latently infected by Mtb, 41 patients with active tuberculosis (ATB), 28 patients with 2-month HRZE treatment and 20 patients with 2-month HRZE followed by 4-month HR treatment. (2) We used 16S rRNA sequencing and an untargeted Liquid Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer-based metabolomics to investigate the changes of gut microbiome and the alteration of fecal metabolome, respectively, during anti-TB chemotherapy.

  • * A new method was developed to identify female carriers of α-thalassemia using non-invasive prenatal test samples, finding that 7.76% of 68,885 Vietnamese pregnant women carried deletions related to the disorder.
  • * The approach showed high accuracy, with F1-scores between 94.74% and 99.55% for detecting various genotypes, and it suggests that using cfDNA from prenatal tests could be a cost-effective way to identify carriers of α-thalassemia.
