Sex different effect of antibiotic and probiotic treatment on intestinal microbiota composition in chemically induced liver injury rats.

Differences in the gut microbiota and metabolic processes between males and females may explain differences in the risk of liver injury; however, the sex-specific effects of antibiotics and probiotics on these relationships are not clear. We evaluated differences in the gut microbiota and the risk of liver injury between male and female rats after the oral administration of antibiotics or probiotics followed by a period of diethylnitrosamine treatment to chemically induce liver injuryusing high-throughput sequencing of fecal microbiota combined with histological analyses of liver and colon tissues. Our results suggest that the ratio of gram-positive to gram-negative bacteria in kanamycin-treated rats was significantly higher than that of other groups, and this difference persisted for the duration of the experiment.

Background And Aims: Asthma is common in Malaysia but neglected. Achieving optimal asthma control and care is a challenge in the primary care setting. In this study, we aimed to identify the risk factors for poor asthma control and pattern of care among adults and children (5-17 years old) with asthma attending six public health clinics in Klang District, Malaysia.

Objective: To compare cumulative live birth rate (LBR) between progestin-primed ovarian stimulation (PPOS) and GnRH antagonist protocols of preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) cycles in different populations.

Methods: This was a retrospective cohort study. A total of 865 patients were enrolled and separate analyses were performed for three populations: 498 patients with predicted normal ovarian response (NOR), 285 patients with PCOS, and 82 patients with predicted poor ovarian response (POR).

Lipid and glucose abnormalities and associated factors among children living with HIV in Asia.

Background: Children living with HIV (CLHIV) on prolonged antiretroviral therapy (ART) are at risk for lipid and glucose abnormalities. Prevalence and associated factors were assessed in a multicentre, Asian longitudinal paediatric cohort.

Methods: CLHIV were considered to have lipid or glucose abnormalities if they had total cholesterol ≥200 mg/dL, high-density lipoprotein (HDL) ≤35 mg/dL, low-density lipoprotein (LDL) ≥100 mg/dL, triglycerides (TG) ≥110 mg/dL, or fasting glucose >110 mg/dL.

Nanomaterial-Based Antivascular Therapy in the Multimodal Treatment of Cancer.

Abnormal tumor vasculature and a hypoxic tumor microenvironment (TME) limit the effectiveness of conventional cancer treatment. Recent studies have shown that antivascular strategies that focus on antagonizing the hypoxic TME and promoting vessel normalization effectively synergize to increase the antitumor efficacy of conventional therapeutic regimens. By integrating multiple therapeutic agents, well-designed nanomaterials exhibit great advantages in achieving higher drug delivery efficiency and can be used as multimodal therapy with reduced systemic toxicity.

Background: Increasing evidence suggests an association between maternal pre-pregnancy body mass index (pre-BMI) and adverse pregnancy outcomes. However, the effects of methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR) polymorphisms on these relationships require further investigation. This study aimed to investigate whether the relationship between pre-BMI and the risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes was influenced by MTHFR gene polymorphisms.

In this study, a Chinese young woman who suffered from NF1 disease with first-trimester spontaneous abortion was recruited. Analysis for whole exome sequencing (WES), Sanger sequencing, short tandem repeat (STR), and co-segregation was carried out.

Effects of obstetric critical care simulation training on core competency and learning experience of midwives: A pilot quasi-experimental study.

Aim: This study aimed to investigate the effects of maternal critical care simulation training on the core competency and satisfaction of midwives in China.

Background: Midwives play an important role during the peripartum period. Simulation-based training could be an effective tool in improving the core competency of midwives when managing critical obstetric illnesses.

Correlation of ABO blood groups with treatment response and efficacy in infants with persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn treated with inhaled nitric oxide.

Objective: Not all infants with persistent pulmonary hypertension of the newborn (PPHN) respond to inhaled nitric oxide (iNO) therapy, as it is known to improve oxygenation in only 50% to 60% of cases. In this study, we investigated whether ABO blood groups were a relevant factor affecting the improvement of oxygenation by nitric oxide (NO) therapy in infants with PPHN.

Methods: This study was a retrospective, multicenter, and cohort-controlled trial that involved 37 medical units.

Adnexal Torsion Associated With Recurrent Ovarian Hyperstimulation Syndrome: A Case Report.

Adnexal torsion due to hyperstimulation is one of the well-recognized serious complications of assisted reproductive techniques like in vitro fertilization (IVF). We report a case of a 35-year-old primigravida who presented to the emergency department with complaints of acute severe left iliac fossa pain and nausea. Further history revealed that the patient had previously undergone one cycle of ovulation induction and was diagnosed with ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS).

Background: Germline mosaicisms could be inherited to offspring, which considered as "de novo" in most cases. Paternal germline MECP2 mosaicism has been reported in fathers of girls with Rett syndrome (RTT) previously. For further study, we focused on MECP2 germline mosaicism in males, not only RTT fathers.

KDM6A-Mediated Regulation of Cranial Frontal Bone Suture Fusion in Mice Is Sex Dependent.

The five flat bones of developing cranial plates are bounded by fibrous sutures, which remain open during development to accommodate for the growing brain. Kdm6A is a demethylase that removes the epigenetic repressive mark, trimethylated lysine 27 on histone 3 (H3K27me3), from the promoters of osteogenic genes, and has previously been reported to promote osteogenesis in cranial bone cells. This study generated a mesenchyme-specific deletion of a histone demethylase, , to assess the effects of loss, in cranial plate development and suture fusion.
