Following the relaxation of control measures for COVID-19 in China in December 2022, there was a resurgence of influenza A among children in Linyi. This research aims to analyze the epidemiology and genetic characteristics of influenza A viruses circulating among children in Linyi from April 2022 to March 2024. Throat swab specimens were collected from children with influenza-like illness (ILI), and the types of influenza were identified.

Methane-rich saline protects against sepsis-associated cognitive deficits in mice.

Brain Res

September 2022

Faculty of Anesthesiology, Changhai Hospital, Naval Medical University, Shanghai 200433, China. Electronic address:

Sepsis is associated with multiple organ dysfunction, and the brain is particularly vulnerable. Sepsis-associated encephalopathy (SAE) increases the mortality of patients with sepsis; however, the pathogenesis of SAE remains unclear. Methane, the simplest aliphatic hydrocarbon, has been reported to have anti-inflammatory and organ-protective effects.

Background: Overcrowding, abuse of antibiotics and increasing antimicrobial resistance negatively affect neonatal survival rates in developing countries. We aimed to define pathogens and their antimicrobial resistance (AMR) of early-onset sepsis (EOS), hospital-acquired late-onset sepsis (HALOS) and community-acquired late-onset sepsis (CALOS) in 25 neonatal intensive care units (NICUs) in China.

Study Design: This retrospective descriptive study included pathogens and their AMR from all neonates with bloodstream infections (BSIs) admitted to 25 tertiary hospitals in China from January 1, 2017, and December 31, 2019.

Background: Postoperative cognitive dysfunction (POCD) is associated with prolonged hospital stays, increased mortality, and negative socioeconomic consequences. Dexmedetomidine, ketamine, dexamethasone, and lidocaine have previously been reported to be effective for preventing POCD.

Study Question: In this network meta-analysis, we apply direct and indirect comparisons to rank these pharmacological agents in terms of their effect on POCD, through which we seek to provide evidence for future clinical medication.

Dysregulation of alternative splicing of hTERT gene to generate full-length Htert (hTERT-FL) that reactivate telomerase has been recognized as a major pathological alteration in pancreatic cancer (PrCa). Mechanism about the factors that regulate hTERT-FL splicing is lacking. Through bioinformatics approach, we focus on a candidate splicing factor RBM10, which leads to a switch in hTERT transcripts to generate a function-less isoform hTERT-s in PrCa, suppressed both telomerase activity and subsequent telomere shortening.

Examination of predictive effect of five hepatitis B virus (HBV) markers on the re-vaccination time of hepatitis B vaccine was assessed. A total of 3,243 patients examined by five HBV markers in Women and Children's Health Care Hospital of Linyi from January 2015 to December 2017 were selected as the subjects and analyzed retrospectively. According to the previous time of hepatitis B antibody vaccination, subjects were divided into three groups: Short-term group (previous time of hepatitis B vaccination <5 years, n=798); medium-term group (>5 years - ≤10 years, n=1,242); long-term group (>10 years, n=1,203).

Microglia-mediated neuroinflammation is important in the pathogenesis of neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE). This study aimed to investigate the expression of microRNA-384 (miR-384) in HIE newborns and evaluate the clinical and functional role of miR-384 in HIE diagnosis and neuroinflammation. The expression of miR-384 was estimated using quantitative real-time PCR.

Neonatal hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE) is a disorder mainly due to asphyxia during the perinatal period, and late diagnosis leads to high mortality. In this study, the expression of microRNA-199a (miR-199a) in HIE newborns was investigated, as well as its clinical significance in HIE diagnosis and prognosis. Circulating levels of S100B and NSE in HIE newborns were measured using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, and the expression of miR-199a was analyzed using quantitative real-time PCR.

Background: The differences between the clinical characteristics and survival time in malignancy- and non-malignancy-associated secondary hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) are unclear. Here, we describe the clinical characteristics, prognostic factors, and survival outcomes of malignancy-associated HLH compared to that of non-malignancy-associated HLH.

Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 91 pediatric patients with HLH (age < 14 years) at the Affiliated Hospital of Qingdao University Pediatric Department between January 2005 and October 2016.

: Acute postoperative pain can lead to long hospital stays, dysfunction, and even chronic pain. Mitogen-activated protein kinases (MAPKs) are important in pain signaling. The activity of MAPKs are negatively regulated by dual specificity phosphatases such as mitogen- activated protein kinase phosphatase-1 (MKP-1), which specifically dephosphorylates MAPK p38.

Through gene mutation analysis of patients with non-syndromic hearing loss (NSHL) correct genetic counseling for patients with NSHL and their family members were provided. A total of 116 patients suffering from NSHL were selected, and Sanger sequencing was applied to analyze 31 mutation sites in four deafness genes [gap junction β-2 (), solute carrier family 26, member 4 (), and mitochondria 12S ribosomal ribonucleic acid ()]. Based on detection results, for the families with reproductive needs, amniotic fluid was extracted from pregnant women during proper gestational weeks to identify fetal genotypes and predict hearing state.

Aryl hydrocarbon-receptor nuclear translocator (ARNT2) is a member of the bHLH PAS (basic helix-loop-helix Period/ARNT/Single-minded) family of transcription factors. Recently, some studies indicate that ARNT2 is associated with the occurrence and development of carcinoma. However, its roles in gastric cancer (GC) remain unclear.

Background: Different types of medications are currently used in vestibular migraine (VM) prophylaxis, although recommendations for use are generally based on expert opinion rather than on solid data from randomized trials. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of venlafaxine, flunarizine, and valproic acid in a randomized comparison trial for VM prophylaxis.

Methods: Subjects were randomly allocated to one of three groups (venlafaxine group, flunarizine group, and valproic acid group).
