Background/aims: CD24 is a highly glycosylated mucin-like antigen on the cell surface, which has recently emerged as a novel oncogene and metastasis promoter. We performed bioinformatics analysis to investigate whether CD24 can serve as a prognostic indicator in breast cancer.
Methods: CD24 expression was assessed using SAGE Genie tools and Oncomine analysis.

Background: Mercury (Hg) is a well-recognized environmental pollutant known by its toxicity of development and neurotoxicity, which results in adverse health outcomes. However, the mechanisms underlying the teratogenic effects of Hg are not well understood. Imprinting genes are emerging regulators for fetal development subjecting to environmental pollutants impacts.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a common endocrine disorder that affects reproductive dysfunction and metabolism in women of childbearing age. An increasing number of studies have suggested that the bone morphogenetic protein 15 (BMP15) signalling pathway serves an important role in the pathogenesis of PCOS; however, the full mechanism remains unknown. The present study revealed that intrinsic follicular dysplasia may be associated with regulation disorders of ovarian granulosa cell apoptosis.

Cervical cancer is one of the most common malignancies in women worldwide. Numerous literatures demonstrate that aberrantly expressed lncRNAs are involved in tumorigenesis and development, and may have the potential to be prognostic markers. However, their prognostic functions in cervical remain controversial.

Midkine (MK) has been reported as the potential novel diagnostic biomarker for cancer in several studies, but their results were controversial. Therefore, we performed a diagnostic meta-analysis to assess the diagnostic value of serum MK in cancer patients. A systematic electronic and manual search was performed for relevant literatures through several databases up to June 1, 2017.

Male infertility is a complex, multifactorial and polygenic disease that contributes to ~50% cases of infertility. Previous studies have demonstrated that excess weight and obesity factors serve an important role in the development of male infertility. An increasing number of studies have reported that resveratrol may regulate the response of cells to specific stimuli that induce cell injury, as well as decrease germ cell apoptosis in mice or rats.

Albinism is a diverse group of hypopigmentary disorders caused by multiple-genetic defects. The genetic diagnosis of patients affected with albinism by Sanger sequencing is often complex, expensive, and time-consuming. In this study, we performed targeted next-generation sequencing to screen for 16 genes in a patient with albinism, and identified 21 genetic variants, including 19 known single nucleotide polymorphisms, one novel missense mutation (c.

Infertility is a significant problem for human reproduction, with males and females equally affected. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying male infertility remain unclear. Spermatogenesis is a highly complex process involving mitotic cell division, meiosis cell division and spermiogenesis; during this period, unique and extensive chromatin and epigenetic modifications occur to bring about specific epigenetic profiles in spermatozoa.

This meta-analysis broadly compared the safety and efficacy of robot-assisted laparoscopy (RAL) with that of conventional laparoscopy (CL) for endometrial cancer staging. The advantages of RAL were evaluated through the outcomes in terms of conversion rates, complications, length of operation, blood loss, number of lymph nodes harvested, and length of hospitalization. Three electronic databases (PubMed, MEDLINE, and EmBASE) were searched to identify eligible studies.

Background: Tooth agenesis is a common developmental dental anomaly. The aim of the study was to identify the causal genetic mutation in a four-generation Chinese family affected with non-syndromic autosomal dominant tooth agenesis.
Methods: Genome-wide scanning was performed using the Illumina Linkage-12 array.

Background And Aims: Primary gastric B-cell lymphoma is the second most common malignancy of the stomach. There are many controversial issues about its diagnosis, treatment and clinical management. "Double-hit" and "double-protein" involving gene rearrangement and protein expression of c-Myc and bcl2/bcl6 are the most used terms to describe DLBCL poor prognostic factors in recent years.

Previous studies have found that smoking is associated with decreased male fertility via altering the quality of semen. However, the mechanism by which cigarette smoking affects semen quality remains to be fully elucidated. Heavy smoking-induced DNA damage has been reported to correlate with abnormal spermatozoa and male infertility.
