Introduction: During pregnancy, women rely on a variety of sources to obtain information. However, not all of these sources are equally reliable, and there is the concern that especially online information-seeking may increase pregnancy-related anxiety. This study examines to what extent different sources of pregnancy information are associated with concurrent pregnancy-related anxiety (RQ1) and changes in pregnancy-related anxiety throughout the pregnancy (RQ2).

Spatially resolved transcriptomics enable comprehensive measurement of gene expression at subcellular resolution while preserving the spatial context of the tissue microenvironment. While deep learning has shown promise in analyzing SCST datasets, most efforts have focused on sequence data and spatial localization, with limited emphasis on leveraging rich histopathological insights from staining images. We introduce GIST, a deep learning-enabled gene expression and histology integration for spatial cellular profiling.

Paclitaxel (PTX) is a commonly used chemotherapeutic drug, however, one of its major adverse effects is chronic neuropathic pain, with the incidence being higher in women than in men. The neurobiological mechanisms behind this sex difference are still largely unclear, and the endocannabinoid system, which exhibits sexual dimorphism and plays a key role in pain regulation, is a promising area for further studies. The present study aimed to characterise pain-, cognition-, anxiety-, and depression-related behaviours in male and female rats following PTX administration, and associated alterations in the endocannabinoid system.

Introduction: HIV-negative adolescent girls and young women (AGYW), and male partners, have disproportionately high HIV incidence in many African countries. We used a new HIV Prevention Cascade (HPC) approach to quantify levels of, and barriers to, prevention method use to guide interventions to increase effective uptake of primary HIV prevention.

Methods: Data from the Manicaland HPC pilot study (2018-19; N=9803) in Zimbabwe were used to measure levels of sexual risk behaviour and construct HPCs for male condom, PrEP (females), VMMC (males) and combination prevention use by HIV-negative sexually-active AGYW (15-24-years) and male partners (15-29-years).

Almost all cervical cancers are caused by human papillomaviruses (HPVs). In most cases, HPV DNA is integrated into the human genome. We found that tumor-specific, HPV-human DNA junctions are detectable in serum cell-free DNA of a fraction of cervical cancer patients at the time of initial treatment and/or at six months following treatment.

Background: Recent declines in HIV incidence among adolescent girls and young women (AGYW) in Africa are often attributed to the expansion of biomedical interventions such as antiretroviral therapy and voluntary medical male circumcision. However, changes in sexual behaviour may also play a critical role. Understanding the relative contributions of these factors is essential for developing strategies to sustain and further reduce HIV transmission.

Introduction: Previous reports have noted associations between subfertility in women and increased risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) events in later life. However, reports conflict regarding the associations between subfertility and CVD risk factors. Using data from a population-based cohort of Black and White women, we examined the association between longitudinal assessments of CVD risk factors and subfertility.

A gut microbiome-targeted diet can potentially mitigate chronic diseases like malnutrition. In a prospective 12-week intervention trial, we evaluated the effects of six different plant-based fermented pickles (∼50g/day) on clinical, inflammatory, and gut-microbiome parameters in women (n=230) in a rural setting with a high prevalence of undernutrition. Blood was collected at two, whereas stool was collected at three timepoints.

Background: Physiological age (PA) derived from clinical indicators including blood-based biomarkers and tests of physiological function can be compared with chronological age to examine disparities in health between older adults of the same age. Though education interacts with sex to lead to inequalities in healthy ageing, their combined influence on longitudinally-measured PA has not been explored. We derived PA based on longitudinally-measured clinical indicators and examined how sex and education interact to inform PA trajectories.

Aim: Chronic cocaine use is associated with decreases in neuroactive steroid levels. These adaptations may contribute to continued cocaine use and high relapse risk in individuals with cocaine use disorder (CUD). Thus, this pilot study assessed chronic treatment with 2 supraphysiologic doses of the neuroactive steroid precursor pregnenolone (PREG, 300 mg/day; 500 mg/day) to boost endogenous neuroactive steroid levels and assess its impact on provoked craving and cocaine use outcomes in an 8-week trial in men and women with CUD.

Introduction: Cervical cancer remains the second most common cancer among women worldwide, with 85% of cases occurring in low-and middle-income countries (LMIC). Women living with HIV (WLWH) are at a particularly high risk of developing for high-grade cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN2/3) and cervical cancer, and the standard surgical treatment is far less effective in this population. Thus, research on medical therapies and combination treatment options remain a priority.
