Lifetime Attributable Risk in Mammography Screenings in Dubai: The Influence of Breast Thickness and Age on Radiation Exposure.

This study investigated the lifetime attributable risk (LAR) of radiation-induced breast cancer from mammography screening in Dubai. It aimed to explore the relationship between breast thickness, patient age, and the associated radiation dose during mammographic examinations. A retrospective analysis was conducted on 2601 patients aged 40 to 69 across five screening facilities in Dubai's healthcare system.

Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection Involving the Left Main with Extension to Left Anterior Descending Artery and Left Circumflex Artery: Diagnostic and Management Challenges.

Spontaneous coronary artery dissection is a rare cause of unstable angina, myocardial infarction, and sudden cardiac death, particularly among young women and individuals without conventional atherosclerotic risk factors. We present the case of a 43-year-old woman who had spontaneous coronary artery dissection involving the left main with extension to left anterior descending artery and left circumflex artery. She was ultimately managed medically, with a good outcome.

The virus persistence can last for a long time, and the consequences of a previous coronavirus infection are currently under study. This study aimed to establish the clinical features of the course of pregnancy and childbirth in women with a history of asymptomatic coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Effect of Treatment with Progestins and Antiplatelet Agents on IVF in Women with Adenomyosis and Recurrent Implantation Failure.

This prospective study aims to identify the effect of the dienogest 2 mg/day and aspirin 150 mg/day combined treatment for two months before frozen ET on the assisted reproduction outcome in women with adenomyosis and recurrent implantation failure (RIF). Patients were selected based on specific criteria and divided into two groups (with and without treatment). Preimplantation biochemical parameters and ultrasonographic features (endometrial thickness, uterine peristalsis, and junctional zone thickness) were compared with pregnancy rate in a non-natural cycle frozen embryo transfer technique.

Low-Grade Endometrial Stromal Sarcoma: A Case Report of a Rare Uterine Malignancy Mimicking Degenerative Uterine Leiomyoma in a Nulliparous Woman.

Low-grade endometrial stromal sarcoma (LGESS) is a rare uterine malignancy that causes non-specific symptoms which presents more typically in younger women compared to other uterine sarcomas. Preoperative diagnosis of myometrial LGESS is challenging, as it is frequently mistaken for a benign uterine mass, such as a degenerating leiomyoma. Despite its rarity, the imaging findings of LGESS are highly variable, complicating the diagnostic process.

Synthesis, Structure, and Electrophysical and Electrochemical Properties of Novel Composite LaMnO-LaFeO.

This article presents the synthesis, electrophysical, and catalytic properties of a LaMnO-LaFeO nanocomposite material. The nanocomposite was synthesized via the sol-gel (Pechini) method. X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis revealed a polycrystalline, biphasic perovskite structure combining both hexagonal and cubic symmetry.

First-year burden of disease for babies admitted to special care nurseries: Systematic review and meta-analysis.

Aim: This systematic review aimed to report on health outcomes of newborn babies admitted to special care nurseries up to age 1 year, and where possible, compare their outcomes with those of healthy term babies.

Methods: Systematic searches through Ovid MEDLINE, PubMed and Embase databases. We included studies reporting outcomes up to age 1 year for special care nursery babies and moderate-late preterm babies, restricting to studies published after 2000.

Background: Autoimmune thyroiditis (AIT), encompassing Hashimoto's thyroiditis (HT), is a prevalent chronic autoimmune disorder characterized by lymphocytic infiltration and the presence of anti-thyroid antibodies. It is the primary cause of primary hypothyroidism and affects women more frequently than men. Nearly 95% of individuals with HT exhibit thyroid peroxidase antibodies or thyroglobulin antibodies.

Women living with HIV face intersectional stigma from infection, domestic violence, and other marginalized identities: a qualitative study in West Bengal, India.

Background: Women living with HIV bear a disproportionate burden of stigma, especially in countries where gender discrimination is more common. A result is widespread domestic violence against women. This violence is itself stigmatized, but the intersectional stigma of HIV and domestic violence has not been well studied.

Background: Female-specific cancers, particularly breast, cervical, ovarian, and uterine cancers, account for nearly 40% of all cancers in women. This study aimed to analyze the global epidemiological trends of these cancers from 1990 to 2021, offering insights into their evolving patterns and providing valuable information for health policymakers to allocate healthcare resources more effectively.

Methods: Data from the Global Burden of Disease Study 2021 (GBD 2021) were used to comprehensively assess the global incidence, mortality, and disability-adjusted life years (DALYs) of female-specific cancers.

Exploring the heterogeneity of HER2 gene status and expression in non-positive breast cancer patients: insights from immunohistochemistry and fluorescence in situ hybridization.

Breast cancer became the most prevalent malignancy among women, and HER2 expression status is critical for treatment decisions. With the emergence of ADC drugs, HER2 low-expressing patients who previously did not respond well to traditional anti-HER2 therapies may now benefit. In this study, immunohistochemistry (IHC) and fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) were applied to assess HER2 expression in 349 patients with HER2-non-positive breast cancer.

Background: The objective of this systematic review was to review the current evidence on the effects of acute exercise with and without morning breakfast consumption on cognitive performance.

Methods: This systematic review followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis guidelines and is registered in the International Prospective Register of Systematic Reviews (CRD42023396125). Studies were included if they investigated effects of acute exercise with and without preceding morning breakfast on cognitive performance measured during and following exercise in healthy adults.

In vitro effect of hCG on cryptorchid patients' gubernacular cells: a predictive model for adjuvant personalized therapy.

Background: Cryptorchidism is the absence of one or both testicles in the scrotum at birth, being a risk factor for testis cancer and infertility. The most effective method to treat cryptorchidism is orchiopexy, followed by human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) therapy; however, a portion of treated patients do not show a significant improvement in testis volume and vascularization after adjuvant therapy.

Methods: In this study, we generated an in vitro model to predict the patient response to hCG by cultivating and treating primary cells derived from five cryptorchid patients' biopsies of gubernaculum testis, the ligament that connects the testicle to the scrotum.

Clinical outcomes of a digital musculoskeletal women's pelvic health program: an observational, longitudinal study with comparison group.

Background: Chronic pelvic pain is a common yet undertreated condition that significantly impacts quality of life for women worldwide. Digital exercise therapy designed to target pelvic pain can improve symptomology while reducing time and cost-related barriers to in-person clinical care.

Methods: This longitudinal, observational study of a digital women's pelvic health program examined pelvic pain, anxiety, and depression at 4 and 12 weeks in female adults experiencing chronic pelvic pain.

Objectives: To describe the structure and development of a new international, chiropractic, practice-based research network (PBRN), the Chiropractic International Research Collaborative (CIRCuit), as well as the demographic, practice, and clinical management characteristics of its clinician participants. An electronic survey was used to collect information on their demographics, practice, and clinical management characteristics from clinicians from 17 October through 28 November 2022. Descriptive statistics were used to report the results.

Ethnobiology! Until when will the colonialist legacy be reinforced?

In this essay, we will present arguments for a negative answer to the debate question: "Is publishing ethnobiology data respectful of Indigenous and Local Knowledge holders' rights?" We recognize that ethnobiological research has advanced in recognizing the rights of Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities (IPLC), but we believe that we still have a long way to go in deconstructing colonialism in ethnobiology. In order to be truly respectful, ethnobiologists need to collaborate with IPLC to achieve an ethical science with equity between knowledge systems, fostering the co-production of knowledge from an intercultural science perspective. This essay was written by a group of Brazilian scientists, both IPLC and non-IPLC, and reflects a perspective of the academic universe seen from the place we are, in this multicultural and imbalanced world.

A comparative study of menstrual poverty among urban and rural female learners in government schools of Zambia.

Background: Menstrual poverty remains a significant health problem among female learners in Zambia, particularly due to the lack of access to menstrual products, leading to the use of unsafe alternatives and potential health risks such as reproductive tract infections. To address this pressing issue, this study examined the disparities in knowledge, attitudes, and practices concerning menstrual poverty among female learners in both urban and rural government schools within Zambia.

Methods: The study utilized a mixed-method sequential explanatory design, combining quantitative and qualitative approaches.

Background: This particular case is a world-first with no previous literature reports on patients presenting with both benign acoustic schwannoma and malignant ependymoma.

Case Presentation: A 60-year-old woman with unexplained right-sided hearing loss that had worsened progressively over 4 years, along with intermittent dizziness that had begun 3 years prior. Our preliminary diagnosis included: (1) Right acoustic neuroma; (2) Ependymoma of the fourth ventricle; and (3) Hydrocephalus.

A prospective multi-site study to evaluate the performance and usability of an oral fluid-based HIV self-test in Canada.

Background: Blood and oral fluid-based HIV self-tests are important for reaching the undiagnosed living with HIV. The study objectives were to evaluate the oral fluid-based OraQuick® HIV Self-Test (HIV-ST) performance in comparison to laboratory reference testing; determine if laypersons can correctly perform the HIV-ST; document if intended users can successfully interpret pre-made contrived positive, negative, and invalid results; and document if intended users can understand the key messages in the product labeling.

Methods: This prospective study enrolled consenting adult intended users of HIV self-testing from six community health centres in four Canadian provinces between June 2022 and January 2024.

Treatment of unstable pelvic fractures with double INFIX.

Methods: We performed a retrospective analysis of 23 patients with unstable pelvic fractures treated using the Double INFIX minimally invasive technique. The cohort included five cases of Tile B1 type, eight cases of B2 type, six cases of B3 type, three cases of C1 type and one case of type C2.
