Local Ethnic Demography and Ethnonationalist Voting: Evidence from Interwar Yugoslavia.

The study explores the impact of local ethnic demography on ethnic voting, focusing on an understudied democratic experiment in Southeastern Europe during the 1920s-Yugoslavia. Using original data on 378 counties across four parliamentary elections, the study tests two competing hypotheses regarding inter-ethnic contact between Serbs and Croatians: the threat hypothesis and the contact hypothesis. The findings indicate that in contexts where demographic distribution nears parity between rival ethnic groups, minority nationalist voting intensifies while majority nationalist voting diminishes.

Background: Five fulfilled hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH)-2004 criteria, and the HScore are widely used and recommended by international expert consensus to diagnose secondary HLH. Both diagnostic scores have never been validated in heterogeneous patient cohorts of secondary HLH patients. Traditionally, deroofing and wide excision represented commonly employed surgical techniques. Due to the recurrent nature of HS, tissue preservation should be a relevant aspect of surgical management.

Development and maintenance of consensus recommendations on pediatric outpatient antibiotic therapy in Germany: a framework for rational use.

However, in recent years the epistemic authority of science has been challenged, causing concerns about low public trust in scientists.

Science is integral to society because it can inform individual, government, corporate, and civil society decision-making on issues such as public health, new technologies or climate change. Yet, public distrust and populist sentiment challenge the relationship between science and society. To help researchers analyse the science-society nexus across different geographical and cultural contexts, we undertook a cross-sectional population survey resulting in a dataset of 71,922 participants in 68 countries.

Objectives:  Trauma-induced coagulopathy (TIC) is common in severely injured patients and is associated with significant morbidity and mortality.

Method:  The association of two parameters of blood gas analysis (hemoglobin [Hb], base excess [BE]) with standard coagulation tests (SCTs) and rotational thrombelastometry (ROTEM) using the database of the TraumaRegister DGU between 2015 and 2022 was studied. In a stepwise approach, the occurrence of a TIC, the correlations between Hb/BE levels and SCT, as well as ROTEM were calculated respectively.

What do patients know about their newly prescribed medication: Application of a novel knowledge index.

Objective: The present study aimed to evaluate patients' knowledge about their newly prescribed medications, contributing factors, and preferred sources of medication-related information.

Methods: A cross-sectional study using an online survey was conducted among 931 customers of a mail-order pharmacy. Medication-related knowledge was examined using a novel knowledge index (KI) assessing medication dosage, indication, time of administration, and side effects.

Return to work following traumatic hip dislocation: a prognostic outcome study.

Background: Traumatic hip dislocations are associated with high morbidity and overall limitations of daily living activities. Residual disability inhibits returning to work after severe injuries and minimizes financial independence and social involvement, which are both related to well-being and good health. The aim of this study was to analyze epidemiological and socioeconomic status following traumatic hip dislocations to identify predictors for return to work.

The provision of courses in complementary and integrative medicine (CIM) varies widely between medical schools. To effectively improve CIM education, it is essential to use robust evaluation instruments that measure the impact of different educational interventions. This review aimed to identify and critically appraise qualitative and quantitative instruments used to evaluate CIM courses in undergraduate medical education.

Sports preferences in children and adolescents in psychiatric care-evaluation of a new questionnaire.

Introduction: As part of an exploratory and hypothesis-generating study, we developed the Sports Preference Questionnaire (SPOQ) to survey the athletic behavior of mentally ill children and adolescents, subjectively assessed physical fitness and perceived psychological effects of physical activity.

Methods: In a department of child and adolescent psychiatry, we classified 313 patients (6-18 years) according to their primary psychiatric diagnosis. The patients or-in the parental version of the questionnaire-their parents reported their sport preferences on the SPOQ.
