Navigating the Future of Organisational Health Services Research in Germany and beyond: a Position Paper.

Background: Recent analyses have shown that in health services research in Germany, healthcare organisations are often considered primarily as a study setting, without fully taking their complex organisational nature into account, neither theoretically nor methodologically. Therefore, an initiative was launched to analyse the state of Organisational Health Services Research (OHSR) in Germany and to develop a strategic framework and road map to guide future efforts in the field. This paper summarizes positions that have been jointly developed by consulting experts from the interdisciplinary and international scientific community.

The US Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) regulatory oversight over electronic cigarettes (e-cigs) includes access restriction for persons <21 years of age and flavor restrictions for "cartridge-based" products. Despite the restrictions, consumption by US youth perseveres. Studies on youth e-cig use are limited by the reliability and accuracy of self-reports.

Projecting the economic burden of type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus in Germany from 2010 until 2040.

Background: The aim is to estimate age- and sex-specific direct medical costs related to diagnosed type 1 and type 2 diabetes in Germany between 2010 and 2040.

Methods: Based on nationwide representative epidemiological routine data from 2010 from the statutory health insurance in Germany (almost 80% of the population's insurance) we projected age- and sex-specific healthcare expenses for type 1 and 2 diabetes considering future demographic, disease-specific and cost trends. We combine per capita healthcare cost data (obtained from aggregated claims data from an almost 7% random sample of all German people with statutory health insurance) together with the demographic structure of the German population (obtained from the Federal Statictical Office), diabetes prevalence, incidence and mortality.

The Perspective of Residents Living With Dementia Toward Their Built Environment: A Walking Interview Study in German Nursing Homes.

Background And Objectives: In long-term care, the built environment can help residents maintain activities of daily living and thus positively influence their quality of life. The adequacy of the built environment can be systematically assessed using assessment tools. The German Environmental Audit Tool (G-EAT) was translated and psychometrically tested for the German setting.

Current situation, strengths and problems in intra- and interprofessional collaboration in German nursing homes - A holistic multiple case study.

Background: The increasing care complexity of nursing home residents living with dementia requires new care models that strengthen professional collaboration. To contribute to the sustainable implementation of new care models, it is important that they are linked to the care reality. However, little is known about intra- and interprofessional organization and provision of care in German nursing homes.

Guidance on how to efficiently find, choose, and use available systematic reviews was developed.

Objectives: The aim of this paper is to provide clinicians and authors of clinical guidelines or patient information with practical guidance on searching and choosing systematic reviews(s) (SR[s]) and, where adequate, on making use of SR(s).

Study Design And Setting: At the German conference of the Evidence-Based Medicine Network (EbM Network) a workshop on the topic was held to identify the most important areas where guidance for practice appears necessary. After the workshop, we established working groups.

Dent disease (DD) is a hereditary renal disorder characterized by low molecular weight (LMW) proteinuria and progressive renal failure. Inactivating mutations of the CLCN5 gene encoding the 2Cl/Hexchanger ClC-5 have been identified in patients with DD type 1. ClC-5 is essentially expressed in proximal tubules (PT) where it is thought to play a role in maintaining an efficient endocytosis of LMW proteins.

Scientific guidelines for preclinical research on potentised preparations manufactured according to current pharmacopoeias-the PrePoP guidelines.

Objective: Pharmacopoeias regulate the manufacture of potentised pharmaceutical preparations used in different branches of complementary and integrative medicine. The physicochemical properties and biological activity of these preparations are often investigated in preclinical research, yet no guidelines for experimental research currently exist in this area. The present PrePoP guidelines aim to provide recommendations to promote high-quality, statistically sound, and reproducible preclinical research on potentised preparations.

Background: We aimed to estimate the age-specific and age-standardized incidence rate of diabetes for men and women in Mexico between 2003 and 2015, and to assess the relative change in incidence of diabetes between 2003 and 2015.

Farnesyltransferase-inhibitors exert immunosuppressive capacity by inhibiting human B-cells.

Objectives: Farnesyltransferase inhibitors (FTI), which inhibit the prenylation of Ras GTPases, were developed as anti-cancer drugs. As additional target proteins for prenylation were identified in the past, it is likely that FTI have potential value for therapeutic purposes beyond cancer. The effect of FTI on B-cells remains unclear.

A reliable and above all, rapid antimicrobial susceptibility test (AST) is required for the diganostics of blood stream infections (BSI). In this study, resistance testing using DxM MicroScan WalkAway (MicroScan) from a 4-h subculture is compared with the standard overnight culture (18-24 h). Randomly selected positive blood cultures (PBC, n = 102) with gram-negative bacteria were included in the study.

The debate surrounding nature versus nurture remains a central question in neuroscience, psychology, and in psychiatry, holding implications for both aging processes and the etiology of mental illness. Epigenetics can serve as a bridge between genetic predisposition and environmental influences, thus offering a potential avenue for addressing these questions. Epigenetic clocks, in particular, offer a theoretical framework for measuring biological age based on DNA methylation signatures, enabling the identification of disparities between biological and chronological age.

A Novel Prehydrated Porcine-Derived Acellular Dermal Matrix: A Histological and Clinical Evaluation.

It is well known that soft tissue quality and quantity around dental implants is of paramount importance for later peri-implant health. For this purpose, the clinical and histological outcomes of the peri-implant mucosa, following soft tissue augmentation for soft tissue improvement with a novel prehydrated porcine acellular dermal matrix graft (PPADMG) in conjunction with simultaneous implant placement, were evaluated in this case series. Twenty-two patients were included in the study.

Oxygen toxicity constitutes a key contributor to bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Critical step in the pathogenesis of BPD is the inflammatory response in the immature lung with the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines and the influx of innate immune cells. Identification of efficient therapies to alleviate the inflammatory response remains an unmet research priority.

Background: Developing a digital educational application focused on sexual health education necessitates a framework that integrates cultural considerations effectively. Drawing from previous research, we identified the problem and essential requirements to incorporate cultural insights into the development of a solution.

Objective: This study aims to explore the Solution Room of the self-established Intercultural Research Model, with a focus on creating a reusable framework for developing and implementing a widely accessible digital educational tool for sexual health.
