Secondary contact between closely related taxa represents a "moment of truth" for speciation-an opportunity to test the efficacy of reproductive isolation that evolved in allopatry and to identify the genetic, behavioral, and/or ecological barriers that separate species in sympatry. Sex chromosomes are known to rapidly accumulate differences between species, an effect that may be exacerbated for neo-sex chromosomes that are transitioning from autosomal to sex-specific inheritance. Here we report that, in the Solomon Islands, two closely related bird species in the honeyeater family-Myzomela cardinalis and Myzomela tristrami-carry neo-sex chromosomes and have come into recent secondary contact after ~1.

This systematic review examined whether neural responses to visual food-cues measured by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) are influenced by physical activity. Seven databases were searched up to February 2023 for human studies evaluating visual food-cue reactivity using fMRI alongside an assessment of habitual physical activity or structured exercise exposure. Eight studies (1 exercise training, 4 acute crossover, 3 cross-sectional) were included in a qualitative synthesis.

Tumour volume is typically calculated using only length and width measurements, using width as a proxy for height in a 1:1 ratio. When tracking tumour growth over time, important morphological information and measurement accuracy is lost by ignoring height, which we show is a unique variable. Lengths, widths, and heights of 9522 subcutaneous tumours in mice were measured using 3D and thermal imaging.

Introduction: The NHS breast screening programme only employs female mammographers to carry out breast screening. The screening service is experiencing a shortage of staff and introducing male mammographers into the service is a potential solution. This research aimed to determine if the introduction of male mammographers would impact acceptance rates of the offer of screening, how women feel about the potential change and what the impact would be at a programme level.

Objectives: To describe the placement of self-inflating tissue expanders and clinical outcomes in 12 consecutive cases of reconstruction of distal cutaneous limb defects in dogs.
Materials And Methods: Cases of distal cutaneous limb defect were divided into three groups based on the location of the placement of the self-inflating tissue expanders: Group A (n=4): on, or proximal to, the elbow and stifle; Group B (n=4): distal to the elbow or stifle and proximal to the carpus or tarsus; and Group C (n=4): distal to the carpus or tarsus. Owner satisfaction and clinical outcome were documented.

The shift toward bioavailability-based standards for metals such as copper and zinc not only improves the ecological relevance of the standard but also introduces significant complexity into assessing compliance. This study examined differences in the copper and zinc complexation characteristics of effluents from a range of different sewage treatment works and in relation to so-called 'natural' samples. This information is essential to determine whether the inclusion of effluent-specific complexation characteristics within the regulatory framework could enhance the environmental relevance of compliance criteria.
